Of course Salvor Hardin also had the luxury of having psychohistory on his side to bail him out of any messes. I don't think we can count on that with SCO;)
There's really no need. If you're seeing to many trolls then just adjust your threshold level.
I have as many beefs with slashdot as anyone but the one good thing I can say about them is that the karma/moderation system generally works pretty damned well.
It doesn't and nor do I. It's entirely in your overreactive imagination. If I were a phycologist I'd make some sort of claim about your mind fabricating things because it has some sort of fruedian ax to grind. Wants to feel like a martyr or something. Thankfully I don't beleive in that psuedo-science crap so I'll assume you're just dense and try to explain it slower this time.
Nokia's "full distro" doesn't break compatibility with standard desktop apps because it doesn't make you use Javascript. Javascript driven GUIs could certianly be part of a so called full distro, provided other types of applications are also possible.
The distinction here, as I see it, is mainly a stylistic one. (certianly nothing to get all uppity and offended about)
On so called "full distro" phones (not my term, slashdot summary said it) you don't need to "write a browser plugin or use dbus to talk to a compiled daemon." On so called "full distro" phones, your GUIs don't have to be javascript or CSS or whatever, they are just standard X applications (the full distro runs X11, as noted in the summary).
In other words, I wouldn't call firefox "locked down", but if I were to compare it with, say, ubuntu then I would be willing to assert that ubuntu was a more "full" development platform.
The distinction between "full distro" and "non-full distro" is one that the slashdot summary defined, and is not nessesarily something that I agree with.
That said, the summary makes it pretty clear that it's using the term to make a distinction between a phone that uses a traditional userland and interface, and one with a custom-ish one that doesn't really support "native" (poorly defined, I think most people understand what it's trying to say though) linux applications. I'm not trying to inflect my believes here.
I suspect you're a language snob who dislikes Javascript for no rational reason.
I never said anything was wrong with javascript, I'd be unqualified to properly insult it even if I wanted too. Your insulting assumption is I assume the reason you're modded flamebait.
They are dense enough down here that it's a statistical probability that they will bounce off each other. On the otherhand in space, there are so few that chances are they will never even come close to hitting, let alone do it enough to propogate sound waves.
Think of it like a ball pit, if you jump into a ball pit it makes a wave which propogates. Now go outside and jump up and down. Surely somewhere there are balls outside of a ballpit so by your logic you should be making ballpit waves that are just really hard to hear, which is, clearly bogus.
(disclaimer, I understand soundwave propogation is more complicated than a ballpit, it's called a metaphor...)
From what the slashdot summary seems to be saying, you would do all of these things like you normally would with a linux workstation install. If that is the case it could be what I've been waiting for, for quite a while.
Firstly, if it only runs javascript applications as you say, then it's hardly any more of a "real distro" than Android is.
not some compiled language using C
There are other compiled languages besides C. There are a lot of them in fact...
but I look at that as a good thing.
I suspect from your previous comment that you are terribly unqualified to even understand the implications of what you're saying, or to make that comment at all.
I also watched the 1080p version and was terribly unimpressed.
It looked technically complicated and high-res or whatever, but it did not look "good". I think it fell flat-faced right into the uncanny valley for me (which, as a perspective thing, is of course relative to the viewer). No need to throw insults around just because someone wasn't as enamored with it as you were.
There were a few Asimov stories that effectively switched the first and second laws by simply having robots with modified definitions of what "human" meant. Interesting stuff.
Actually, it really does not "beg the question".
Of course Salvor Hardin also had the luxury of having psychohistory on his side to bail him out of any messes. I don't think we can count on that with SCO ;)
Then I doubt I'd be in the position to make that call.
In a heartbeat, without hesitation.

Unfortunetly this robot hand only has three fingers so a "high five" might be a bit difficult ;)
Better yet, why would I play Quake Live instead of Quake 3 on linux?
One of them runs a hell of a lot better in linux, allows me to set up my own servers with mods, and is much easier to play with friends on the fly.
And you say you are having lag issues. How curious...
For quite a while hardware accelerated graphics on linux was next to unheard of.
I don't know why decided to ignore what I wrote and jump to your own conclusions about what I thought in the first place.

In fact, forget the smartphone and netbook...

To be fair, it is a great way to make money!
Ok ok, I'll shutup now :)
Gasses are quantized (made up of little particles), breaking down your "sound in space" theory.
I thought that downloading was legal for norwegians but uploading wasn't.
My IBM Model M could snap your Microsoft keyboard in half.
It also probably weights 30 pounds more ;)

Well for one, the summer camp won't beat your kid to death for not running fast enough.

Also stated above in the discussion are reasons why URL shorteners are overused, almost always abused, and in general a bad idea.
Apparently you are far too dense to understand, or even consider terribly simple concepts that do not align with your opinions.
