  1. What this means is that if you want NN, you have to vote for a Democrat, or at least an Independent. And they have to win both chambers and probably the presidency to.

Or, you could, you know, engage your representative and senator (R/D/wutevr), and express your point of view in a clear, reasoned manner. Believe it or not, they do listen to your calls and read your letters/emails (at least someone on their staff does. There is a populist movement on both sides of the aisle and the incumbents better pay attention to it, or they will be looking for a new job.

We are really disrupting by saving babies that have defects that wouldn't have survived on their own.

Well, that's one way to look at it. What else should we stop? Patent ductus arteriosis is a common defect where the hole normal between the chambers in a fetus' heart never closes up (usually does this several weeks before birth). A fairly straightforward open heart procedure fixes the problem. Should we stop doing this, too? Where do we draw the line? What criteria? Money? Class? At the other end of life - do we use euthanasia on the elderly that no longer contribute? Just asking questions... I've worked in health care, taking care of both newborn and elderly.

From that editorial: "Shimamura et al. demonstrated that a microbubble-enhanced ultrasound method successfully delivered therapeutic genes into the CNS with no evidence of brain damage". So it is not only ultrasounds that are required for this procedure to work, but some microbubble injection needed. I could not find any reference on the gas used for this microbubbles, nor their size nor how they generate them. Still sounds like a very promising treatment.

Could the microbubbles be caused by ultrasonic cavitation? Don't know how much power they're applying, nor how focused (didn't RTFA).

If China come after American tech, especially from Silicon Valley, they'll end up with a lot more. They'll end up contaminating their society with capitalistic ideals as well as ideas. They'll import American consumerism, fashion, and a large part of culture as well. This could be a very risky proposition, even though they are trending towards Western values mixed with Communism already, this will increase the shift. I bet there are more than a few old hard-liners that see this as a bad thing.
