Actually the almost exact counterpart of jailbreaking for Android phones would be rooting. You don't have to "root" your phone to install 3rd party (ie. not coming from Market) APK's. With iPhone, you need to jailbreak it.
Hell, there is a checkbox in Android settings that allows one to install 3rd party application packages.
Also, Google Answers could have been Yahoo Answers. Google Directory could have been Yahoo Directory. Google Wave could have been... Well... What was it anyway?
What makes you think that the only reason of BitTorrent's success is its lack of search? I remember that the switch from eDonkey/eMule to BitTorrent was solely because of BitTorrent protocol was much faster.
Hey, Lotus Notes is a great idea, which is still currently being replicated (pun intended) by No-SQL databases (CouchDB, MongoDB etc). The user interface and bloat of the client (Lotus Notes) has nothing to do with the underlying architecture (NSF).
A sale is not always a sale. Shops often discount a few items hoping that people purchasing them will find some other items they saw while shopping interesting too. Resellers like this guy defeat the purpose.

I don't use a Mac, but still I wonder. In what application you need to click both buttons?
Wrong. My 21 MB Seagate ST-225 (MFM) was still operating until a few years ago. I purchased it in 1987~1988, together with an IBM PS/2 Model 30 Clone:

Do you have an upload cap?

CAPTCHAs can also be defeated with a system like reCAPTCHA.
Actually they were called intros. "Demo" meant a standalone (and usually longer than an intro) audio/visual show.
What happens after 7 years?
With this logic, a web browser for iPhone cannot be allowed either.
You download (via HTTP) arbitrary code (javascript) and execute it, basically bypassing Apple's approve/reject process (for HTML files?)...
