All people owing a Bentley are wealthy, all wealthy people do not own a Bentley. There are many people with wealth that own "average" automobiles and prefer to either invest their wealth for long term gain or simply don't wish to flaunt it. I believe what the study is attempting to ascertain is a minimum "wealth indicator" that many wealthy people are likely to possess while those of more meager means do not. As started, even the iPhone indicator is only 69% correct, so while not perfect it has a higher than average chance of making a correct prediction. What I did not see in the study was a breakdown if certain models had a higher successful predicative value. I would imagine an iPhone X would be more indicative of wealth than a second hand 5S.
This! We have had a rough time finding my daughter an adolescent psychologist to the point where even she realizes what a serious problem this is. She is majoring in Psychology when she heads to university this fall to try and help others. She will be able to empathize with her patients (assuming she sticks with it that far) in a much more direct way because of her experience.
Some problems remain invisible until they directly effect you. Once your eyes are opened it is so surprising how wide spread they actually are.
Pioneer AppRadio (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio) I have a car stereo that supports this and it is wonderful. I just plug in my phone and use the touch screen on the radio to manage all the applications including MotionX GPS for traffic and routing on my iPhone (many of the apps can run directly off bluetooth.) If I get a call the radio automatically mutes whatever I was listening to until the call is over. All hands free and as an added bonus my phone is completely charged by the time I get to the office or home.
I felt the same way for the longest time until I discovered Calibre. I download all my books of the Kindle, convert them to a different format and keep local backups. If Amazon decides to delete the version they have in "the cloud" I simply copy the one from my cloud over! In the mean time it is quite nice to have hundreds of books on a single device the size of a paperback that fits in my back pocket.
Not magically but legally different: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/04/dnc.shtm. It is illegal to cold call mobile numbers and Facebook should be held liable for any crimes committed by the selling of this information.
And the independents look at both Democrats and Republicans as crazy zealots who are too busy arguing and fighting to see the real problems. Of course the people with real power want to propagate these artificially created differences to keep both sides from joining and booting them out of power.
I am sorry, I am quite capable of thinking for myself I do not need some political party telling me how to vote. Vote for the person, not the party.
Done, done and done. I let TWC know when I turned in my 3 DVR boxes and shut down my Cable/Phone/Internet service which I had for 10 years that this was one of the major reasons I was switching to FIOS. I have not regretted the switch at all either, FIOS quality and service have been excellent (and I had my doubts as I hated my Verizon land line service!)
Tell you what then, next time you need a filling or a tooth pulled you just tell that dentist "Dammit, people had this done for generations without Novocaine, I sure as hell do not need it." You will be crying like a baby in 60 seconds begging for it I am sure. Your argument does not hold water.
EBGames told me I could come back anytime before delivery and get a 100% refund for my WAR pre-orders. While I am such an old school Warhammer fan I will probably grin-and-bear-it this news is none the less very disappointing to say the least. Especially since I am an huge Dark Elf fan and was planning to play a Black Guard on release.
Well then explain the situation where one has the job for a (long) period of time and then the laws are changed. My job was not exempt when I took it and years later the law changes and it is (not that I am complaining, I am happy with my current situation.) As many posters above have noted this is why they call it a gray area, it is not black and white.
In the US we have some pretty messed up overtime laws:
"C. Professional Exemption Standard Test
Under the new regulations, the learned professional employee exemption applies if:
1. The employee is paid on a salary or fee basis of at least $455 a week;
2. The employee's primary duty consists of performing work requiring advanced knowledge defined as work that is predominantly intellectual in character and that includes work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment;
3. The advanced knowledge is in a field of science or learning; and
4. Such advanced knowledge is customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction."
Yes they will, and they will still be charged for using the HOV lanes. At least that is the way it works in part of CA where I live. Sure they get charged less for the moment but as more and more people begin to carpool these rates will climb to ensure the same amount of revenue for the powers that be. In CA they raised the gas taxes to punish the SUV drivers and make a buck. When everyone bought a hybrid suddenly the budget no longer balanced so they, yeup you guessed it, raised the gas taxes to make up the shortfall.
The real crime here is tax dollars are used to build these highways then they are leased to private companies who spend a tiny fraction of the cost to add some cones and toll booths. The companies get rich, hand the lanes back 10 years later at the end of the lease and more tax dollars are needed to repair them.
Where are my mod points when I need them! I agree, Mossberg made perfectly valid points. Some of them relate to Ubuntu (not Linux in general) and some to how Dell configured the machine. But in the end the true litmus test is for someone who has never used Linux to be able to sit down and be as productive as they would be in another OS. While Ubuntu may not be there yet it is certainly approaching it. I believe one of the biggest hurdles for Linux reaching the desktop is for those sponsoring it to get off the defensive whenever a criticism is made about it and look at it analytically. Sometimes the critics (customers) are right.
As a small anecdote I find it very insightful to watch how my wife uses Ubuntu vs my daughter. Nether are tech-savy but my wife has used Windows for years. My daughter has basically grown up with various Linux distros, mostly Ubuntu. Sometimes I catch my wife asking my daughter how to do things and surprised when she can without a problem. Just goes to show sometimes you just need some time working with a new thing to get comfortable with it.
I have a machine right now that has gone from Ubuntu Edgy to Dapper to Feisty and it is still running fine and I have never reinstalled it from scratch. All updates were done through the update manager. My daughter mostly uses the machine but it also serves as my svn server, print server for my LAN, db server and a teamspeak server as well!
This is not entirely true, I actually hold a Trolltech license. Yes they are assigned per developer however once every six months they can be reassigned to another developer. So worst case you are without a license for six months, but if that developer just up and quit (or something more unfortunate) I am quite sure Trolltech would be understanding.

Where art thou modpoint? This comment nails it dead on.
Posting to remove wrong mod level...

Excellent recommendation, one of the best books in my library. Carl Sagan is an amazing scientist, author and storyteller.

http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/ I love this app, only need to remember a single password.

I keep my DAoC and WoW UI customization files checked into my SVN server; do I earn a geek badge for that? :)

Don't be ridiculous, everyone knows Harrison Ford is Han Solo.
