  1. Re:Dumb ruling on Using Handheld Phone GPS While Driving Is Legal In California · · Score: 4, Interesting

This is exactly the issue I have with my Subaru BRZ. If the car is moving, you can't enter information into the GPS. Thats all well and good when there is only me in the car, but stopping my passenger from using it is asinine! I hit this issue on a road trip, I wanted my passenger to try and find somewhere up ahead for us to eat (in the country with no decent cell data connection). I ended up having to pull off the highway and pull over just to find a nearby restaurant... not impressed.

Wouldn't that be a different plan? and "The insurance companies told them that their computers weren't able to add up all their customers' out-of-pocket costs to see whether they had reached the limit" is what I'm saying is just plain wrong.

Agreed that its not technical in nature, but I can't go past the greed aspect. Why would this be a technical problem when my current medical plan has a maximum out of pocket limit? I know this works, as when I ended up in hospital for 2 months, they stopped billing me when I hit that limit.

I think thats pretty accurate for how a very large number of people in the country should be treated. I definitely don't want a lot of people I know with a commercial laser, as I do like my eyesight. I have a 500 lumen flashlight (its really really bright in a tightly focused beam) and the number of people I told "don't point it at your face because its incredibly bright", that did exactly that is astounding. When I asked why? their response was its only a flashlight... I've seen several people do that with lasers too. Not to mention that is the governments targeted mentality with their current form of "education".

this topic makes me curious. Why do games bother to license the names and images? if I make a movie and want a gun in it, I don't ask permission of the manufacturer, I can even use its real name. Same goes for any real world product that gets used in the movies. How is using it in a game any different? Of course as hairyfeet points out, there is a lot of new laws on the books that could change all the rules. The obvious answer is that they will sue you, and try their best to make it unprofitable for you.

I guess you don't live in Houston. I'm astounded how often we loose power here. I get a small power interruption at least once per week, but those are handled by my UPS. Maybe once a month they go longer than my UPS's can supply power. I think its time I just invested in my own power plant in my back yard...

When BK wanted to enter the Australian market, the name Burger King was already in use. They tried to everything possible to get ownership of the name but failed. The current owner was happy with his business and refused to sell. Eventually (I think it was ~2003), BK got rights to the name and started renaming every store BK. I used to work for Hungry Jacks in the late 90's. All the training material was BK branded, even the equipment was.

I love going to a place where they don't speak english, its just so much more interesting learning about a completely foreign country. If the country speaks english, they are usually westernized.

Its great fun to be in a location where just being there means you're learning something new. I just love to learn and book my vacations based on that. The upside is that I can now order a beer in a lot of places around the world.
