Yes, I was definitely willing to pay to get to those records. I was trying to do some class reports on local history and it took me forever to get the info that I needed. I would have been able to find it in seconds if I had access to those records. There was also just the curiosity about local history that I had. Besides the clowns, of course...

Who knows what career I could have had now if I had been able to get those records. I was not really commenting on whether they were free or not, but the fact that they are not available at all.

That is exactly what got me excited about the Internet in the first place. I imagined going to my local paper's website to research things that had happened in the past, like in the movies. Maybe I could find a pattern of murders by clowns every 27 years in my town or something. Sadly, they never bothered to put up any archives and only retain old stories for a day or two. There are countless records that are lost to us because the papers do not put this information out there.

    Slightly?

When I tried to unzip the JavaDocs, Vista told me that it would take over 8 hours. I thought that was just the usual inaccurate time estimate that Windows has always had. I canceled it after two hours with the progress bar barely over zero and the timer up to 14 hours. 7-Zip took a whole 30 seconds to unzip it.

This was still not fixed after SP1. Not sure how it is now since that made me turn to OS X and Linux.

Been a while since you were in college? These days, saving $150 will get you a used book if you're lucky. I had to spend $170 on a book one semester and when I picked it up, it was not even bound. Just a stack of printed paper in shrinkwrap.

Closing the account might not do it either. My fiancee worked at her university in a workstudy position for the summer and had direct deposit to her account. A year later, she got hired on full time at the same university. The bank account had been closed for a year, but the university sent her first paycheck to the closed account. The bank took it and put it in without a question. She had to take a half day off just to go through the hassle of getting her paperwork. The bank said that if the money is sent to an account, they will deposit it there no matter what.
