    Work is creation and is one of the fundamental rights of humans. If you feel that it is sucking the life out of you then you need to think about getting another work, and while at it, reconsider a few things about life. Yes, I know it will not be easy, but it is not supposed to be easy. And from the way you phrased, it is going to be easier than what you are going through now.

    Unless of course you are winning, so then all bets are off.

    free of charge and open-source don't necessarily go hand-by-hand. Remember the GPL says that if you give someone the binaries you have to give them the source. You don't have to give binaries to everyone (see RHEL) and you don't have to give source to anyone who doesn't have the binaries.

    But yeah, I see you point :-P

    I have been running WinXP Pro SP2 inside Linux with Vbox, and yes, the Guest Additions make the host OS faster. They act like drivers.

    If something does't work with Wine, then use VirtualBox. It even has a Seamless Mode. If you have a recent CPU with VT it runs almost in native speed. Emulate what you can't otherwise run. Vbox is GPL, you can get it at the repositories. The same with Wine.

    Yes, you are right, BUT... If you through an HDD and an optical disk at the other side of the room, which one is more possible to survive? But optical disks can handle more abuse than HDDs, that's their advantage.

    Aos, optical disks cannot be re-writen (leave re-writables aside, they are a diffent product) but I don't see this a disadvantange. It's for archiving, it's good that it cannot be re-writen.
