I know its cliche, but "digital distribution" of HD movies has already taken off. I get all my HD movies off of Comcast with a PVR and HBO/Starz package. New HD movies can be bought for 7 bucks. The selection isnt great, and its pretty expensive... but so is BluRay and HDDVD when they come out in 6-12 months.
You're just not paying attention. Xbox 360 already has a substancial game library
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Elder Scrolls Oblivion Far Cry Predator Gears of War Prey
Five killer titles that rival Halo in anticipation and quality
Not to mention Fight Night Round 3, PGR, and Kameo. There's quite a few brilliant games that you cant find on any other console platform.
I think the 360 is significantly better than any other console 3 months after launch. Once they start producing the consoles in mass there could easily be a big shift in the market.
Check out the article. Its not unheard of for dominant competitors in the console industry to fall. I think Sony's comparisons to nintendo in the mid-90's holds a lot of truth.
I dont think so. The game is fun for a few months (like many other good games) but it eventually gets old and I think most people move on to other games.
I'm really looking forward to downloading old nes/snes games on the revolution but I have a suspicion they'll be charging 10-15 bucks each. It would be crazy given how easy it is to download an emulator and roms, but don't put it past them.
I'm really hoping for 99 cent game downloads, or maybe some kind of all you can eat monthly thing.
Whenever people hope for a magical upset victory, they are usually disappointed.
It's definately possible but not likely. I dont think Sony is smart enough to predict these grand strategies. I think, like most companies, they go news story to news story, trying to spin each in the best possible light.
Leaks happen, they cant be stopped. And 75% of the time the rumors are true.
I cant wait to get myself a PS3 and enjoy GTA4. But go ahead and resign yourself to the fact that we wont be seeing the console until 2007 or later.
I think thats a great suggestion. Especially since it makes a fair amount of sense in the virtual world. A character cant go on forever. Let the idea of "Sleep" in the virtual world be the concept of taking a break to reality.
The full auto demo on Xbox Live was great. Played it for a few days before getting sick of it. I think the game would have been much better as an Xbox Live arcade game for 15 bucks or so. Its fun and all, but definately not enough to last more than a couple weeks of entertainment. Also doesnt seem too interesting as a rental since every once in a while I have the urge to blow up some cars (so I'll just load up the demo).
Hopefully they'll get smart and convert it (maybe with 1/4 the levels or something) as a downloadable xbox live game
It was Jimmy Carter's administration that banned nuclear spent fuel recycling in the late 70s. They used terrorism as the justification, however most nuclear scientists dismissed the idea that any terrorist could create a real atomic bomb out of spent fuel. The worst would be a dirty bomb which has a very limited area of infection.
I've recenetly picked up GTA:San Andreas again and playing through it the third time. Every time I'm impressed at how well they've crafted an entire world, with very few details spared. Definately the best game I've played, and doesnt seem to get old.
Any one of the GTA3's can be picked up at any time and enjoyed, no matter how many times you've played them before.
Good points all around. But if its just a fixed price game, why would Pioneer be selling them for 1800 dollars? They must know that very few people will buy them at that high price, and I guarantee it relates directly to the cost per unit in parts that it takes to manufacture.
I'm sure sony could get the cost down, but they dont produce everything and will have to buy a fair share of the expensive parts. There's no way they will be able to produce them for 50 bucks each.
Small loss? Even if it costs them an extremely cheap price of 300 bucks oem to get the blue ray player in there, with the rest of the hardware, its going to be a ridiculous loss of upwards 400 bucks per console if they keep the price at an already high level of $500.
How many games do they need to just break even? 20 bucks royalty per game... 25 games to break even.
I think the executives at Sony arent going to be too excited to go along with that idea.
I keep hearing from everyone that Blu-ray is going to win because Playstation 3 is going to come out this spring and have a game player AND a blu-ray player for under $500.
This is ludicrous. Pay attention to the article:
"Analysts say the early adopters, those who rush out and buy whatever new technology becomes available, will jump right in and pay $1,800 US for a Blu-ray player from Pioneer or $499 US for the Toshiba HD DVD player."
OK, so a high end blu-ray player is going to cost 1800 dollars in May. Low end players will probably be 700-900 dollars. How on earth is Sony going to put one of these players in a PS3? Are they planning to lose $500-1000 per console. It's not going to happen. They'll either cut out the Blu-Ray drive or more likley delay the PS3 until Blu-Ray is economically feasible.
Mark my words. This is going to kill the PS3. If its delayed until Early 2007, the XBox 360 will have a massive marketshare and will be dominating sales. HD-DVD players will probably have become available by then with a large library of titles, making Blu-Ray more and more irrelevant.
3 to 4 years from now when Sony starts fading away along the lines of Sega, everyone will have an easy answer to what went wrong. It'll be Blu-Ray, and their insistence on trying to force a technology down the throats of the uncooperative masses.
ok. 4th time I've read this same retarded post in this thread. Go ask any nongeek what the fuck a wii is. They'll have no clue.
Asked my sister last night. She said she saw it on google news somewhere but couldnt remember what it was.
Wii doesnt mean anything. The branding department fuct up.
Emulating it would be REALLY hard since they would have to include xbox live support (or everyone would complain violently).
My guess is we wont see it for a combination of legal/technical issues.
Oops, the correct AppRocket URL is www.candylabs.com/approcket/
If you're a mac user (like me) of Comictastic, there's a free alternative with Comic Junkie for Windows (www.comicjunkie.com)
Also AppRocket (www.approcket.com) is a great alternative to LaunchBar.
If you're multi-monitor, you'll also need UltraMon (www.ultramon.com)

And of course Yahoo Widgets (widgets.yahoo.com formerly Konfabulator) will make you forget all about Dashboard.

Ventura sure got a lot accomplished too. What an amazing politician!
Sorry to break your fantasy, but any political change requires support in congress and needs to be backed by a major political party.

I bought a used one and it stopped reading discs after a couple months. Cheap enough that I didnt care much and just bought another.
Bought a used xbox 2 years ago and it still works well.
I dont think anything about the cube makes it more or less reliable than other consoles.
A valid comparison would be gamecube launch vs xbox 360s
s _north_america_2001.htm
This article (written by a pronintendo blog) indicates that early gamecube sales werent that great.

As compared to Xbox360 in USA where at bestbuy, people lined up at 5pm saturday for a sunday morning shipment...
The 360 has media center functionality that works with the .01% of people who have working media center pcs.
Dude, its a game console. Designed for games, not a media center.
So far the games are pretty slick. Play Kameo for a half hour and you'll be hooked.
Nintendo has a pretty strong brand in Japan. I'm not sure thats a great example of it beating out its competition on merits alone.
Details?
Perfect game. Great graphics, story, and comedy.
Way too short, and way too easy. But thats the way I like em.
Anyone else thinking that the next generation game is most probably Fable 2?
Sure hope so
Riiiight....

uhh wait... its november.
oh well, back to playing World of Warcraft.
