Okay, disregarding the fact that Phoronix's customarily-misleading data makes it look like two separate sets of motherboards, sound cards and hard disks were used, how is this in any way a valid comparison when every single piece of userspace software between the apps and kernel they're supposed to be benchmarking is different?
Between this and all the free attention the "editors" feed the likes of Florian Mueller with via these itworld/infoworld/computerworld splogs, I've just about given up on Slashdot as a reputable news source.
Wow, after reading that I'm just pissing myself in anticipation to run out and buy a $1000 vacuum cleaner that can run console game ports and Norton at the same time!
I know of a troll who files bug reports just to piss people off; last time he tried to claim an About window displaying the same information as every other GUI app in existence is "a bug and confusing people". Maybe you should ban people like him from the system, just saying.
I remember the days when "region locking" meant 6-8 month delays... *that* would justify pirating it. Just go do something else for 3 days, it's not that hard.
...as in, it'll be interesting to see how Sony manage to royally fuck up this time. Maybe the games will "expire" to make you re-buy them every so often?
Notch doesn't have to match them. He has a three-million-strong army of rabid fans. Bethesda cannot afford the negative PR they risk generating through this and they know it.
Are we supposed to be impressed by this proclamation that you had to hand-scavenge the internet and download "over 200" shady, unsigned executables to create a windows system with one-quarter the utility an average Linux distro provides on the install CD. Not to mention the ten thousand pieces of software the default repository provides. For free.
Has Microsoft produced any hardware platform in the past 20 years that was a "X killer"? All the ones I've seen tend to choke on their own drool instead of "killing" a competitor.

I thought the GNOME design model was "the user is a moron and should be locked up in a padded cell". Firefox's UI trend still fits that description, mind.
...do we only need to have mass executions of these record label workers every half century?

How about it's invalid because they used A DIFFERENT COMPUTER FOR EACH OS.

KDE isn't an OS, and it's only done it for approximately 10 years, not forever.
I wonder if this laptop's keys will begin to break after 2 weeks, like the last (and only) Razer mouse I bought. Probably.

Non-idiots and people who register on CNET sites are mutually exclusive.

I've got two Asus laptops with Linux preinstalled. And I've heard a few horror stories about System76's support...

By the way, what's the US dollar backed by?
Bullets.
The statement that he's convinced that they are should tell you all you need to know: he's a nutcase that just doesn't get computers.
Perl 6 has been around for years now. You can even run it in a browser if you're too stupid to operate synaptic.
Good luck breaking out of a seccomp sandbox where the only syscalls the OS gives you are read() and write().
How much are ComputerWorld/ITWorld paying to get this Mueller FUD campaign to the front page?
I hope it's worth all the subscriptions they cost you guys.
One of them is actually a part of HIV.
So wait, this is a Sexually-Transmitted Medication?
Why the hell are they telling us then?!
I have over 200 programs on this Win 7 system.

You're a grade-A moron.

F11 also works.
your arguments come pretty close to blaming the crime victim instead of the crime perpetrator
Sony is both of these.
At least it's something useful for a change, instead of "anonymous" cunts submitting their computerworld/itworld/whateverthefuckitis blogspam daily.
