As was proved during the Reagan era, the rich AND poor BOTH get richer when Government gets out of the way (i.e., fetters to productivity are removed).
8 years is a dreadfully short time to 'prove' an economic method. For all you know what is happening right now is a direct result of Reagan era policies, so I am going to call bullshit on that, but if you can actually provide some reasonable backup for your opinion then maybe you can change my mind!
I am not going to pretend that there isn't bad regulation (goddamn there is tons of it), and it should be gotten rid of, but people who say that all regulation is bad regulation are just crazies. Should we take out anti-trust legislation? Was it smart of us to remove the investment bank regulation? What about safety regulation? What about anti-discrimination legislation?
There are 'fetters to productivity' and there is 'good legislation' but to say that all legislation that fetters productivity cannot be good is wrong.
The problem with pure-er capitalism is that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
You would run into a situation where the rich can send their kids to better schools, and they get better jobs, and then they make more money, and send their kids to better schools, who make more money. Later on you run into a situation where poor people won't be able to afford school. Two more or less permanent classes. The death of the American dream.
So in a Capitalist system Johnny gets his jumprope, and a new playground set besides, and we all get 100MB service to our homes.
In a capitalist system Johnny gets his jumprope and playground if his daddy is rich. Most kids would get to play with sticks and rocks.
We don't all get 100MB service to our homes. Rich people get 100MB service to their homes.
Of course, in that system the local government would NOT be allowed to limit the number of ISPs servicing an area, so there would be real competition for service in that last mile.
I don't think the government does limit the number of ISP's. I think the free market does. As long as ISP's keep their prices under the cost of implementation of new infrastructure there will never be any competition.
There might be a few more wires strung and/or tunnels dug to run the lines, but there would be more service, more competition, and CHEAPER PRICES.
This is a fantasy. In reality we would end up with 1 really cheap ISP who puts the others out of business, at which point they would either buy out or purchase the equipment from the other companies. The new monopoly would languor just as much as they currently do and could charge as much as they want for their service.
It never fails to amaze me how many people don't understand that most of the major socio-political and economic problems we have today are directly due to the application of too much socialistic GMI and not enough application of Capitalistic Federalism. It would be funny if it wasn't so sick and sad.
I agree there is too much socialism in some cases, but it is usually a failure of implementation or corruption manifesting itself. I should be able to take the money for my education and apply it to any school. But to take away public education and turn it completely over to the private sector is not only ludicrous, its downright evil.
Seriously? Creating new sources of food is evil? Patents last for a few years or a couple decades (at most). New sources of food will continue to pay dividends for generations.
They are not just trying to create new food sources, they are trying to become the ONLY food source.
They are playing god, and they lack any conscience.
Monstanto developed a seed that makes the plant infertile. That can cross contaminate other plants. The goal of this seed? To make it so farmers cannot use seed from the previous harvest and they have to buy more seeds.

Monsanto is quite possibly the most evil company on the planet.
**BIG VOICE**
LOOK AT OUR CARS, LOOK AT OUR LOW LOW PRICES. CAN'T AFFORD IT???? NO PROBLEM. WE CAN GET YOU A CAR.
I know what the car commercial is trying to sell me. I have no idea what the linux commercial is trying to sell me. I don't even know what they are competing with. I know nothing except linux is freedom. Freedom from what? If its freedom from windows "boundaries," well... I don't know what to say. The technical knowledge required to make changes beyond what is already capable in windows would pretty much ensure that anyone capable of doing them already knows linux.
Linux has selling points.
It is no upfront cost
It's configurability is only limited by the users skill
There is a lot of free software for it
It generally gets the job done
More secure
This ad addresses one of those slightly.
What a horrible commercial.
It doesn't remotely state what linux is.
All it says is linux is freedom.
I do not feel un-free, so why do I need to find out what linux is?
All this commercial is, is linux elitist masturbation, it does nothing for anyone who doesn't already know what linux is, and doesn't really do anything for windows users.
Then they locked up the rich,
I remained silent;
I was not rich.
To be fair a large part of our countries rich SHOULD be in prison, especially in the financial and banking centers. The things they do are pretty much criminal.
Then they came for the press,
I did not speak out;
I was not a member of the press.
I think taking a lot of our press away (fox/nbc/etc) would also be a service. Of course it would be stewart they take and not the people who are governmental mouth peices...
but yeah I agree with the sentiment.
I don't think anyone really considers mittens to be the premier spy, and the bob director contacted goons, goons did not contact them.
To pretend this is anything but the greatest stroke of luck in a video game that anyone has ever had is a bit ludacris.
It wasn't a spy, it was a high level bob director who decided to leave and isntead of just leaving he decided to have as much fun with it as possible, so he went to the goon "spymaster" mittens and basically offered to do anything with his account.
It is still not known whether the bob director's account was stolen from him or not and what goonswarm did was try to make it seem like this is what happened with his account info.
To answer your question, yeah, despite the fact that you can't really do anything in eve without a 24 hour timer (kicking members from corp/unlocking assets etc.) it is surprising that you can dissolve an alliance with a couple right clicks and the correct permissions.
But yeah despite the fact that goons did virtually nothing to actually make this happen and it was solely a director inflicting as much damage as possible before he left, it is a testament to their ability as a propaganda organization that this story is so wrong and on slashdot, but blatantly slanted and often wrong stories are the norm here. (but hey, at least its not digg)
Just to suddenly point out the obvious(ly not so obvious).
To download and install you either
a. know a crapload about networking
b. burn a CD
or c. already haev a working OS
It's a simple matter of how much your time is worth.
And if your're joe user its a possibility that it might cost you 20 dollars worth of your time to download and install it.
Besides buying a CD in a store is mainstream, thats what you linux types want right? right!?
Anti-IP. Intellectual property has no real value, while the harvesting of resources and manufacturing of them does. IP not being enforcable in other countries makes it relativly worthless.
Think of it this way. We have got some great minds, and we can send info over to china and tell them what to do and how to do it, but once china decides that the US and themselves should have nothing further to do with eachother were left with some ones and zeros on some hard drives and theyre left with the means to do the manufacturing (and the resources).
Paradigm two: Any service convenient enough will be used regardless of DRM.
If it's more conveneient (and faster) to watch something with commercials (one or two not 10) rather then download the torrent I don't think many people will care. Infact I see no reason to mess with torrents at all should that be the case. If they have everything organized and cataloged there is even less of a reason to use torrents.
The industry (media) has already set this up. There is a possibility, small but there, that you can be prosecuted for downloading any media. There is a possibility, extremly small if youre intelligent, that you can download a trojan or the like from any p2p service.
The only way you can lose by putting out "free" to watch content is by making it more inconvenient then the alternatives, and to be honest what are you gonna do once you've watched a tv show on your pc? Upload it to your iPod? Burn it to a dvd? I can honestly say I'd likly delete all the data and never look at it again. (I know that this rant is not about the same service in tfa, but I can dream that its a start to the one I am)
I never did see what kind of map editor WC3 had(I never gave it a chance after I saw the unit cap), but when I talk about the breakability of the SC editor I meant hackability.
If you take a look at the original SC editor and then look at what the community did to expand its capabilities it is quite impressive.
http://starcraft.org/downloads/MappingDownloads/Ma pEditors/SCMDraft%202%200.6.0%20Prerelease%201http://starcraft.org/downloads/MappingDownloads/Ma pEditors/StarCraft%20X-tra%20Editor%202.6%20Fixhttp://starcraft.org/downloads/MappingDownloads/Ma pEditors/StarForge%202.2
You can have games that far exceed ANYTHING anyone could have done with the original map editor. You can place buildings so they're in the middle of the water, you can have units with 1000000 hit points. I've even seen a bnet map in which somone increased the range of the siege tank (I was stunned myself).
Anyway, my point with the previous post was that high expecations will lead to dissapointment while low expectations might lead you to be suprised, and most certainly not leave you with the same dissapointment that sc2 would if it sucked. You have to admit SC is a very excruciatingly high bar to top, and I don't think they can do it. I'm setting myself up to be nicely suprised if they do, but the gaming industry has taught me to be cautious.
It doesnt matter if its world of starcraft or starcraft2. The expectations for the sequel of the best RTS ever created are too high to ever be met. They will add 3d graphics (which will suck) and they won't give us a map editor that we can break to near the degree the SC one is.
I for one am convinced that it will be the biggest let down EVER in gaming history. I dont think the magic of the original SC can ever be recreated, and I'm happy to say no one has lower expectations for SC2 then me so I'm not utterly depressed if it can't compare. (PLEASE PLEASE blizzard I'm giving you the chance to WoW me, please don't let me down!)
"Most of us are Christians. We are forgiven our sins against our creator for no reason at all."
And here I was under the misconception that it was jesus christ who died so that our sins could be forgivin! How that works I will never know (nor care).
I have always wanted to ask:
What is the criteria that needs to be met to fire a bad teacher.

Last time someone brought this up moore's law was mentioned.
As storage capacity and throughput expand and become cheaper, google can start to make a profit.
I still however think that google is stupid for not doing what hulu does.
Do only evil

A small taste of monsanto's evilness.

That actually says:
Autonomo.us
Maybe we can use the rotation to solve the foreign energy issues we have and yet have no politicians willing to give it anything but lip service.

Added to the actual story before I saw, ignore the above.
