    In NYC apartments you usually have one choice and that is mostly Time Warner cable. Some people also have Verizon FIOS. Most of those ISPs in that list are for businesses.

    Penrose and his wacky quantum ideas are way outside of mainstream thinking on the brain.

    his logic seems to be:
    -consciousness is mysterious
    -quantum physics is mysterious
    -therefore consciousness involves quantum physics

    about as sensible as collecting underpants

    This phrase comes from a book by Malcolm Gladwell. The basic point is that a new idea with the help of a few influential people can suddenly become the latest trend.

    Linux is still used by a very small percentage of people and this is also it's main disadvantage. Once the percentage of users creeps up to a more visible level (15%-20%?) then that disadvantage falls away and suddenly it's popularity will explode.

    I've had the same usa.net email address since '95

    Their spam filtering (brightmail) has got better in the last few years. i used to get 20 a day now it's about 1 a day.

    Spam just isn't the big problem it was. We have the tools to get rid of it.

    in japan, for some kids the phone is their pc. they don't email they send text messages, they browse the web on their phone.

    it's not obvious in the U.S. with our backwards cell phones, but in other parts of the world people are buying phones instead of PCs

    The strange thing about SCOX stock is the volume is very tiny.
    Today it was 64,035. That's about the equivalent of 2 day-traders flipping the stock back and forth.

    What does that mean? Nobody is interested in buying or selling this thing.

    mandrake wasn't installed. they just included a mandrake disk.
    there was some minimal linux install just so you could boot it.
