Perhaps he knows that Sony-bashing will ensue? Sony could actually win the console war AND the HD format war and we here at/. would still collectively trash-talk them.
Not to nitpick, but IIRC there are two ads. One on the left under the menu, and one at the bottom of the page. The one on the left can also be bought by users for flyers, and shown to a particular group of people (I think), which is kinda cool. Let's also not forget that Facebook generally loads pretty quickly, whereas MySpace either takes forever or just doesn't load at all.
The only console peripherals/accessories I remember taking off at all were the rumble pack and memory expansion for the N64. Everything else was either bundled with a certain game (and generally only used with that specific game) or was sold with the intent of being useful in lots of games, but never really was any good with any game. Hell, even the lightguns were only useful for a few games, and usually didn't work quite right.
Accessories are rarely ever successful because game developers rarely ever want to take the risk to require that their game use a certain accessory, unless that accessory has already become widely popular. The ones they do take a risk with often only add some minor improvement or novelty to the game; the game would otherwise be no different if the user did not have the accessory.
I think you might be confused, unless I mistake your meaning. The game is Wind Waker, not Wind Walker. Considering the total difference of literal and figurative meanings of the words, it's not all that likely that there's a correlation between the two. I would assume that WindWalker would be in reference to some sort of flight (or whatever) not in reference to the game. Perhaps WindWalker him-/herself can clear this one up?
Performace - try comparing a 60 GB vs a 200 GB NTFS partition.
It's still the same damn drive. You're not going to get that much better performance by partitioning it. If you have completely seperate drives, sure. Not with partitions. You're still using the same read/write head(s) for the whole thing. I'd bet that in some cases you'd get worse performance from partitions if you have to move the head a long distance to get from OS to programs.
Besides, do you just slap / on your only partition on your disk? Don't use at least keep/home separate? That would be very good practice.
In my experience, having programs on a seperate drive from the windows OS doesn't help with ANYTHING. For the programs to work properly, the registry will need to remain intact, and when you reinstall windows, guess what? The registry gets wiped out. Unless of course you've made a backup, but if you're reinstalling because of some fatal problem, chances are the registry is hosed, and unless you want to sift through all the keys to restore only the ones you need, restoring the registry will most likely bring you right back to square one.
As for the personal data, another COMPLETELY SEPERATE drive is the way to go. Not a partition (unless you're too cheap to buy another drive). That way if the drive gets hosed, you still have your personal files. Of course, you should be backing up your files anyway, but let's face it, most people don't do that.
The only reason I've found to partition a drive is if you want to dual boot two different OSes. If there's some other reason why you need separate partitions for OS, programs, and personal files, someone please let me know the benefits. As per my experience, I just don't see any.
I can understand Sony wanting to move to a diskless system.
Mod me off topic, but for some reason I read that as "I can understand Sony wanting to move to a dickless system."
And to keep this from being totally off topic... you mention that this is the first time Nintendo has offered any sort of backward compatibility. Maybe with consoles, but the new GameBoys have almost always been able to play old GameBoy titles. My GBA can play every single one of my old original GameBoy carts.
I think this depends on what sort of life you want to live and what sort of climate you want to live in. If you like fast paced surroundings, you'll naturally enjoy a big city more than a small one. Personally, I like where I live (Dayton, OH). It's a decent sized city with a good amount of decent paying jobs, relatively low cost of living, within 45 min to 1 hour of a larger city (Cincinnati or Columbus), and we have just about everything you could want to do within a short driving distance (well, except for anything mountain or ocean related). There's also a VERY diverse culture here. You can't walk down the street without passing at least one hispanic, asian, middle-eastern, or other "foreign" person. The only bad thing about Dayton is the crime rate, but as long as you don't go to the east side of the river downtown, you're generally ok.
Nope, I'm running XP Pro SP2. Shocking, isn't it? Especially when you consider that it's an old Dell Dimension L with an 800MHz Celeron, 384 MB of PC100 SDRAM, and a 128MB ATI PCI graphics card. It's actually pretty impressive that it runs fairly quickly at all.
All kidding aside, I find the GC controller very easy to use, though a bit small for the hands. Strange that you find the DualShock a suitable size since I find it even smaller than the GC controller. The XBox controller is too damn big and has too many buttons. I agree the N64 controller is weird, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad. And let's be honest. The DualShock is NOT the best controller design out there.
As for the DVD playback... you should really look into getting a standalone player. Much better features (and reliability) are to be had.
Easy. My system doesn't slow to a crawl and never crashes for unexplained reasons. Also, a quick online scan can pretty closely confirm I have no viruses.
Of course, there could be a stealth virus of some sort, but that's unlikely since I also have no unexplained and/or random behavior. And in the case of a stealth virus, chances are you still wouldn't be able to detect it with antivirus software.
Or it could be cyclic.
1) Develop interesting and/or hyped console
2) Get lots of initial sales
3) Third party devs jump on the bandwagon
4) More people buy console to get third party games
5) Due to more sales, more third party devs jump on.
6) Repeat steps 4-6
But what about that Emotion Engine? That HAD to have had something to do with it! And the DualShock controllers, OMG they are like the best controllers EVAR. And the DVD playback is just the BEST. When I watch DVDs I ONLY use the PS2.
The thing is I doubt the PS3 could realistically entirely replace any of those. Is the PS3 going to be completely backward compatible with ALL PS2/PS games? Will it have the same features as a CD/DVD player? I doubt it, but I guess it doesn't matter if you don't care about features so much. Personally, and I don't know if anyone else is like this, but I don't just throw out an old piece of hardware just because I have something else that will do the same thing. I still have my original GameBoy even though my GBA will play every game I have for it. Yeah, it's more or less useless, but it's still fun to bring out now and then just for the nostalgia. Besides, with the size of the slim PS2 (which most people probably bought when their other PS2 broke) it's not really taking up that much space. Now, the XBox, that's a different story. Also, if people are so worried about how much space the next console they buy takes up, wouldn't they go for the Wii? It's about the size of 3 DVDs. If you don't have space for 3 DVDs, you need to move out of your cardboard box.
Well, you can still have "sex" on the internet, but in the end, you're still servicing yourself.
Really, the only thing you can't get from the internet is any sort of real, live, physical human contact (ignoring the fact that you can probably order a hooker online, but they still have to come to your home or wherever to provide any "service").
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that when AC comments like this get modded up that it was the person who modded the comment up who posted as AC?
If you're having problems removing Windows Messenger, try this. Works for me every time. You'll probably also want to remove the/Program Files/Messenger directory afterwards as well.
The Wiimote doesn't work the same way as a lightgun. Lighting and/or a crappy tv shouldn't affect it in the least.

Why only a reference to Natalie Portman? Why not just include a clone of her with every console? That's feasible, right? Right?!

Yes, I know. Not exactly the same flexibility, though.
We're talking about Windows, not Linux.

I didn't tell you this but... I heard from someone high up at Sony that the PS4 will be... wait for it... META-physical.
And to keep this from being totally off topic... you mention that this is the first time Nintendo has offered any sort of backward compatibility. Maybe with consoles, but the new GameBoys have almost always been able to play old GameBoy titles. My GBA can play every single one of my old original GameBoy carts.
Perhaps that's what Phil Harrison is getting at. The PS4 won't have a physical disc drive because the PS4 won't be physical itself.

I haven't use any antivirus software on my home computer for years, and have had fewer viruses than when I was using it. Go figure.
