Besides Apple TV seems to be easily modifiable (Probably more so than your xbox media center).
That comment makes me think you've never even seen xbox media center. Besides the fact that you can easily customize it a million ways, you don't need to modify it to play the files you need. It plays pretty much any file you throw at it. No need to convert avi, mpg, wmv, ra, divx, xvid, etc. to anything else. I definitely don't want to spend days converting all my files to quicktime.
I do have to admit getting XBMC in the first place is a hurdle in itself. But since you're waiting for a "neat hack" anyways maybe that's not such a big deal.
What are you talking about? If that were the case, I would think that fact would show up rather fast on a google search or perhaps wikipedia. Wikipedia says:
Live Nation NYSE: LYV is a live events company based in Beverly Hills, CA. Live Nation, formed in 2005 by a spin-off from Clear Channel Communications Perhaps you're thinking Live Aid?
If I recall correctly, radar didn't come until WWII. So this was not a design issue when the aircraft were built. If we're talking about stealth standards now, then you are correct.
...and you're buying the card solely for use with Vista, and it doesn't work, take your card back for a full refund and go without.
The problem I have with that in particular is that I bought an 8800 GTX months before Vista came out. I especifically bought it because it claimed that it was Vista Ready. Well, it's not, and my options are quite limited. I can't return it, and I don't really want to purchase another card after I already spent over $600 for this one. In my case, I can't "let my wallet do the talking."
IANAPT, but I definitely think so. Your case is an excellent example, though I might have asked for a professional opinion before using it. Please take no offense, I'm just paranoid.
Furthermore, I think the possibilities are endless. Anything that uses hand-eye coordination can benefit from the new control scheme of the Wii. Think about stroke victims who are trying to redevelop their reflexes and responsiveness. The Wii could be a huge benefit.
You are absolutely correct. People have managed to get linux running on the original Xbox and it does so much more than Microsoft ever intended it for. Xbox Media Center (XBMC) is by far one of the best applications I've seen run on any console, EVER. If I had to choose between all the consoles, I'd pick the original xbox just because of it. Not only can you play any (and I mean ANY) media, there's so much homebrew that you can play any original NES os SNES or Sega or... (the list is too long) game.
Let's also not forget what has been done as far as homebrew is concerned in regards to the PSP, and even the PS2.
Programmers want complete control of their own devices. Not what's being force fed by some big corporation.
I completely agree. There really aren't any movies out there worth watching. Snakes on a plane???? Please
Did you hear the oscar nominations? I haven't heard any of those movies. Worse, I don't want to watch any of them.
I bought the HD-DVD addon for the Xbox 360 and the only movie I actually bought has been Superman Returns (not even a great movie). The selection for HD-DVD and Bluray is pretty lousy. Who wants to see "50 First Dates" in High Definition?
Not everyone on slashdot is as smart as you guys. Can you please explain why this is funny?
Not trying to be rude here (I'm sorry)....I just don't get it (and feel stupid).
The FCC isn't pushing HDTV. It's pushing for digital TV. Big difference. Once they free up the analog transmissions, they can potentially get TONS of money from leasing/selling the frequencies to telcom carriers. Nobody bought the FCC just yet, but greed is involved, nonetheless.
Could you imagine the posts on slashdot if they had done this? I know I'm in a personal "I hate Sony" era but this would have been the greediest stunt a company could pull. Like many posts said when the PS3 was announced at $600, people would be fine overpaying some greedy guy on ebay to have it right away. They certainly wouldn't feel right giving that same money directly to Sony.
If they would have done that....I would have destroyed my PS2 a la "Office Space".
You're right. It seems that games are being spit out from the same cookie cutter recipes. I think the game industry is even worst than the movie industry. "Let's just make something that looks cooler and shinier....don't worry about the content"
Unfortunetaly, Kevin is also right. My cousin in Colombia laughs at me everytime I tell him I bought a new game. His response is always "I'll just wait for the crack." Then again, $50 for a game in Colombia is a hell of a lot more painful to them than it is to us in the U.S. (yet it's still painful for us).
So what's the answer? Well I know what's NOT the answer: Pay Per View for a Madden 07 Advertisement. It's getting ridiculous.
Imagine if you could just pop in a DVD, and have it automatically rip and encode so you can watch it on any TV in the house, or on your video iPod, your PSP, or your car. How about we forget about the content media altogether, and just download the movie from the internet. Well, media companies are not going to let us do this. Copyright not only prevents us from doing this, it's illegal to do so here in the U.S. (DMCA).
Have you tried Xbox Media Center? This is probably the coolest thing I have in my entertainment center. If you could add a tuner card and PVR functionality, it would be close to perfect. It's easy, any media format works, the interface is awesome, and it's not trying to control how or when I can view my videos (or pictures, or music). Oh, and it also plays games.
Have you tried WIndow MCE? Well, it leaves a lot to be desired. I can just picture myself on the phone with my mom; "You need to decrypt and rip the movie to your hard drive. Now you have to encode it to MPG4. How big do you want that file?" Yeah, that's not going to happen.

This really should be modded insightful instead of funny. It appears to be the actual business plan of a lot of these companies.
That's probably true. I don't see any "we speak English" signs here in New York. Yet most places do have a "se habla español" though.
Isn't that what I said? All I was saying was that WWI biplanes were not designed with radar in mind. Radar was definitely around during WWII.

Let's not forget that the 747 is also carrying cargo that has nothing to do with the passangers.
