In the NYC area, you can easily get Mexican Coke with all the delicious goodiness of real sugar. It certainly does make a big difference....and I can no longer buy regular Coke anywhere. For some reason, even the Pepsi which they sell made with sugar doesn't taste quite as good.
So they had no real backup strategy....but what happened to them REALLY REALLY sucks. It really irks me seeing so many comments saying these "retards" had it coming to them.
Listen folks....we're talking about a couple of guys who spent their free time creating a website. They're not making any real money out of this (in fact, they all have regular day jobs).
They've been advertising for a Tech Manager (non-paid) for quite a quite so time now. They did get one recently...but it turns out the guy harvested the emails from the systems and sent out a bunch of spam. He has since been fired.Even though the avsim folks aren't saying it was him who hacked and destroyed their site, it's quite hard not to think it was him.
It's been quite a blow to the flightsim community and I have noticed a lot of IT folks are offering help.....I just haven't seen a single one on this thread.
Funny you mention that. I kept saying to myself that one of the band members themselves must have designed the site. And I was feeling sorry for the developer that had to make it functional. It had some of the worst UI decisions I've seen in a long time.
He didn't say royalty payments for over-the-air stations will increase, he was just making a point. If the most popular station in LA couldn't afford these payments (if they were to be given the same rates), how is it expected that a internet radio station could.
You are absolutely right. The only problem is that it only really holds true for us slashdot types (sorry for generalizing). If my little sister saw me playing Super Mario Bros. on my PSP, and she wanted to do the same, do you really think I could just give her those links?
"If you're at firmware 2.70 you could just downgrade to 1.5 and install nesterJ"....her response: "what's a firmware?"
PSP is by far one of the best "gadgets" I've ever come across....but I have to go underground to make it so. On it's own it's crap just like most things Sony make these days. Sony wants to control what you can and cannot do on the device you own...and that's why the PSP is a failure.
I can rip any of my DVD's and play them right on there with absolutely no modding or anything necessary
What software are you using to do that? And will it work with a non-modded PSP? You make it sound like it's just like iTunes where you just put in the CD, click rip, and you're done.
One thing is for certain, that software isn't from Sony.
I'm not sure if you were the one who recommended Radio Paradise a while back on slashdot, but THANK YOU. Even if you're not, I do appreciate you mentioning them.
Radio where I'm at (NYC) has deteriorated so badly that I pretty much stopped listening to it entirely. I began only listening what I had on CDs. Radio Paradise brought new life to my CD collection.
If RIAA wants to kill internet radio, then just like you, I will not be purchasing any CDs, subscriptions (slacker.com seems cool), or anything that profits the RIAA companies. I will go back to my old music. Already spent thousands on that, might as well use it for what it's worth.
Give the NSA the power to monitor foreigners without seeking FISA court approval, even if the surveillance is conducted by tapping phones and e-mail accounts in the United States.
"Determinations about whether a court order is required should be based on considerations about the target of the surveillance, rather than the particular means of communication or the location from which the surveillance is being conducted," NSA Director Keith Alexander told the Senate last year.
Clarify the standards the FBI and NSA must use to get court orders for basic information about calls and e-mails -- such as the number dialed, e-mail address, or time and date of the communications. Civil liberties advocates contend the change will make it too easy for the government to access this information.
Triple the life span of a FISA warrant for a non-U.S. citizen from 120 days to one year, allowing the government to monitor much longer without checking back in with a judge.
Give telecommunications companies immunity from civil liability for their cooperation with Bush's terrorist surveillance program. Pending lawsuits against companies including Verizon and AT&T allege they violated privacy laws by giving phone records to the NSA for the program.
Extend from 72 hours to one week the amount of time the government can conduct surveillance without a court order in emergencies.
You're absolutely right, except that most of my music was ripped years ago, and at the time I picked 160kbps MP3. At the time, filesize was a consideration. Now, the difference is so huge to the music I've encoded recently, re-ripping is just something I have to do.
I really wish FLAC was an option though (with the hardware I have), but that's another story...
You're right about 160kbps, but I did mean what I said. If you compare a 128kbps mp3 to an AAC of the same bitrate, ANYONE can tell the difference. Once you go to higher bitrates though, the difference becomes less and less. To most ears, you won't be able to tell the difference between a CD (16bit PCM) or a 256kbps mp3 or AAC. Or at least I can't tell when I listen to metal....cause you know......smart people listen to metal.
You're right about the chip support, and about the state of affairs now, but the article refers to what may happen. The fact is, Apple is making an extremely good argument for adopting AAC (DRM free music). This is A BIG DEAL!
I personally never even thought of purchasing music from iTunes until the deal with EMI was announced. Now, I'm looking forward to it. This is what a lot of people have asked for, and now we have started on the road to get there.
Also worth mentioning:
AAC achieves much higher sound quality than mp3 at the same bitrate.
AAC does not require loyalty payments, MP3 does
AAC supports 48 channels...mp3 supports a 6 (5.1 at MPG2)
This is a short list. Check out the full list of features here
BTW, I'm not an apple fanboy. My entire music collection is now in MP3 and I'm not looking forward to re-ripping my music.
You are very much correct. The last olympic frenzy made us want to get Torino 2006. What the hell were we thinking? Probably one of the worse games I've bought ever.
Now if anything could bring back the thrills of summer games (as well as california games and world games) for the Apple IIC. That would make me quite a happy camper.
and no, I'm not anti-360. My PS3 has been folding while I've been playing Worms nonstop
I think that this is a perfect example of the state of affairs in gaming today. For arguments sake, let's say you spent $600 on a kick ass machine (the PS3) and $400 on a somewhat good machine (the 360). Yet you're having a blast playing a game that, if they really wanted to, would have worked fine on the original Xbox.
This game doesn't need HD (for all those that say 1080p is important)
Doesn't need bluray/hd-dvd (~42MB)....even a CD would have been fine
So what's my point? It's the games that matter. I'm having a blast playing Alien Homonid HD on the 360. I have yet to find a compelling reason to buy the PS3. $650 just to play motorstorm seems a bit extreme. I already have my PC running SETI at home so my folding needs are taken care of.;)
(The solution was to uninstall -- not just turn off -- Microsoft's OneCare security suite.)
That alone just made me lose (or loose as a lot of people here say) credibility for Pogue. Probably even worse than saying he had to uninstall Norton Antivirus.
I don't necessarily hate Microsoft, but a technology blogger "in the know" that trusts Microsoft enough for security? C'mon!
Why aren't you using the Windows Classic or Windows 7 Basic theme which comes with windows 7? It'll work just like you want.

Would you buy EA games now that they're being offered on Steam?
I don't think he was referring to the remote desktop client. You can't enable the remote desktop service.
Lucky you. I picked K56flex.
But someone got paid for this???
Excellent point!

Used CD stores are still okay, right????

Man I wish I had mod points to give you.
I can't believe people are leaving out the onion. Definitely better than CNN or Fox!
Anyways....My true list:
The Economist
The New York Times
Ars Technica
The Onion
I'm pretty sure he's playing the London version.
Mayfair = Boardwalk
Parl Lane = Park Place
etc.
There are even small price differences. Check it out

Those AI planes sure know how to get from point A to point B. You should watch them do missed approaches...very impressive.
