    Now Now, Johnson and Johnson's chief medical officer Brian Levy seems very confidant the devices are safe.
    With that in mind maybe he could have one installed in HIM. Bonus points if he walks into a Defcon wearing a name badge.
    A majority of board members joining him would show the company is truly committed to the product...
    I would imagine a few of the biggest investors would also want in on the action, just to bolster stock prices.

    Seriously, if the contacts don't have provisions for some sort of a bailout or adjustment then Amazon needs better lawyers negotiating for them. One thing is certain, someone did not do their due diligence before putting the deal in writing.

    These are fair and cogent questions... How did you get it here?
    I think they are making the issue about fresh soil providing nutrients for microbes at a higher rate due to submersion induced mobility of both the microbes and the nutrients. The thing is, if you have real soil (i.e. dirt+biomass+microbes±other_critters) then that process was happening, albeit at a reduced rate. It's called composting and that has been happening since the first green thing died. And microbes would have gotten around to all the available nutrients at some point. As to rivers fueling the process, I would be very concerned about the fertilizer load carried down stream, but the normal "payload" of biomass was going to break down somewhere in any case. If the rivers biomass were to travel to the sea uninterrupted, I would expect different critters to be waiting to snack the stuff back into farts. Have to add one more sentence because I don't want to end a post with the word farts.

    I hope there are no flame wars. All my eggs are in one basket and I suddenly have the feeling that this (rather large) basket is flammable, even though I was assured it was in fact inflammable!
    Time to break out the old ISO files... I hope they are on asbestos DVDs...

    There's no possibility that aliens capable of FTL would find us remotely interesting. Once you get to that technology, energy and resource problems either have been solved, or become very easily solvable...

    Yes, you go find some squirrels and take their nuts, except for selected docile breeding stock.
    Then you teach the now well behaved squirrels to gather and or produce whatever it is you want or need.
    Maybe hit the town once in a while to get your tentacles wet doing some probing on the townies...
    Being technologically advanced does not imply being kind, compassionate, empathetic or in any way moral.
    The fact that they got off their hunk of rock implies they are willing to struggle and sacrifice.

    And often sacrifice is easiest when you make someone else do it...

    Dad hits copy to copy/paste something on his laptop at the office, and the kids upstairs doing their homework go to paste something into a document on the ipad upstairs have that content dumped into the document.

    So, doing a quick screen grab from your favorite porn site may end up in a quarterly report in addition to being the intended wallpaper file...
    Hilarity ensues!
    Also, a possible new application for the term "bottom line"...
    Oh, Bonus Points if you can get all the members of the board to twist their heads sideways in unison.
