You know, the reason they may be carrying palms/pocketpcs around with them is so that they can get an internet connection with them via bluetooth. I was able to get mine working perfectly with the BlueZ tools and pppd... I could dial into GPRS and use internet just about anywhere the phone has reception. Makes it nice... I can keep the phone in my pocket, and the pocketpc in my hand and surf the web without expensive services!

I agree that the T68 takes 2-3 seconds just to open the address book. However, this is not the case on the T68i model. The 'i' model is considerably faster for all the menu operations, typing, and just about everything else. I don't know whether they improved the software or the hardware, but I like it much more than the old T68.

    True.

However, the reason I blog (and I am sure I am not the only one) is mainly to keep distant friends updated with my life, and the happenings in my city. I don't want millions of people viewing my site because none of my ramblings would mean anything to them. However, it would mean something to those who know me personally. For example if I were to say friend X got married to friend Y, that would mean something to a friend of friend Y, who happens to be in our circle of friends. Think about the close knit of friends you may have had during your college years, but after moving out of college, you lost touch. This is a way for people to still keep track of what friends are up to without mass emailing everyone what is happening all the time. My life generally consists of useless stuff that most people couldn't care less about, but means a lot to those in my close knit of friends.

ummm... this doesn't work in the real world. Have you ever worked at a software company with a PHB?? We get projects like, design a new object-oriented programming language that is easy to use for statisticians (ie non-programmers) and create all the development tools necessary for it in 3 months time. It needs to be production ready in 3 months because we've already told other companies it will be ready in 3 months. Well lets see, our development team is a total size of 2 people..... ring any bells??

Life is going to be unfair. There are lazy people at every company that just get lost in the paperwork and never get fired. The lazy people aren't going to be working overtime either.... it's the hard working people that actually worry about their jobs that care.

    Here's an excerpt:

The problems are the same, and xine is a live, existing example while
we're only "dreaming" about the mplayer case.
So, if we discuss XIne case, we'll get the answer to mplayer problems too.
But I agree, it's boring to discuss xine, let's talk about mplayer then.
We don't want that an unusable crppled-down version of mpleyer be included
in debian. Take it as-is or don't take it.
We have no problems with source distrubition, nor with binary distribution

    The message basically outlines this:

    xineplug_decode_ff.so 829032 - this is libavcodec, the MPEG4/DivX decoder
Did you pay the royalty to the MPEG Group?
    They can come any time...

xineplug_decode_faad.so 164048 - this is the FAAD audio decoder, which is
    just as illegal as libavcodec

Vidix - unusable ballast without libdha, which is
    not packaged

nvidia_vid.so - part of Vidix.. Instead it is a
    placeholder :) Just contains
    printf("TODO") :))
Nice to know xine was packaged by people
who knew what they were doing :)))))))

xineplug_decode_w32dll.so - code (from Wine) to load win32 DLLs
    It's total legal isn't it..?

ASF demuxer - Microsoft already forced a GPL project
    to remove it (VirtualDub)
I hope Debian is also ready to face this :)

    xineplug_decode_gsm610.so - xine's gsm610 is GPL, MPlayer's is not? :)
    Nice.
    WE say it's GPL.
Its original author says it's GPL.

There was a slashdot article sometime back that mentioned MythTV. Last weekend, I loaded up the debian packages (although I had to manually install xmltv since the deb packages were old) and all I can say is wow! It's been running stable for the last 4 days and I've already recorded more than 20 programs. It does that Tivo-ish time-shifting stuff which I find really cool, but somewhat useless for my purposes since I use MythTV mostly for recording stuff. Plus, it's got a pretty nice web interface so I can still start the recording even when i'm away from the computer.... (just by accessing the mythweb frontend through apache/php)

So far it allows you to use two codecs (nuppelvideo and mpeg4) but for some reason I get a bit better performance with the nuppelvideo stuff so I stuck with that. But I think the really big selling point of MythTV isn't the ability to record, do timeshifting, or access via the web... it's about it's really, really nice graphical interface. You just really have to see for yourself to believe it. I feel like a born-again couch potato!

    MythTV debian packages are here.
