Inflection does play a factor. If one is saying that blacks are basketball players, as in women are baby makers, yeah, it's an insult. But if one is saying that blacks are basketball players because they are keenly athletic, that is a compliment, isn't it?
I'm looking at the option of getting a mini music player, and iPod seems to be the way to go. With Apple's reputation of doing things well, i'll bet it'll be a high quality piece of hardware as easy to use as ever.
And i always thought Sony could have done it. Oh well.
First the feminists demonize men, to the point where today divorce courts favor women to be in custody because of the prevailing thought that men don't care as well. This led to the second age (late eighties and nineties) where men were considered to be out for themselves, and would hurt a child without an issue.
We are in the third age. Children have the status of gods to be worshipped, can do no wrong (except against another god) and a mere sigh from them can get a man arrested where men are now considered inherently evil. (Payback for Salem? And that city in Germany where they killed every last woman?)
It's no wonder that parents keep their children locked up inside and pander to their wishes. Politicians can get away with ridiculous things by say "its for the children", parents can get away with murder saying it was to protect their child, and children are not allowed to explore because that might not be ideal.
It's a sad sad predicament. And the only way out is to believe in the inherent good in other people. Sure there's bad people out there, but at least in this case, most crimes towards children are within the family, and a few more in the circle of friends. Strangers do almost no damage to children. (It's usually inflicted by psycologists anyway.)
And finally, parents have to learn to not relive their own supposed "bad childhood" through their children. They need to read the books on how to raise the child instead of how to still have fun once having them (like the despicable US "Child" magazine). Children are treasures that require care and time, not inconveniences to be exploited when the parent is down.

Companies are relying on credit reports because employers, afraid of being slapped with libel suits, are no longer as candid about the performance of former workers.
but are looking for other information...the identity of a person...full legal name...A lot of people change their names if they have something to hide, and it lists former employers who might not be named on the résumé.
Insurance companies have been criticized in recent years for using credit information to set individual homeowners insurance rates.
35 percent of US employers were checking credit reports in 2004, up from 19 percent in 1996.
The Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group supports legislation that would freeze consumers' credit reports, making it unavailable to a range of people and organizations. A similar measure, introduced after ChoicePoint Inc., a personal and financial data collection firm, reported that it had mistakenly sold the financial information of more than 145,000 to a group of criminals, died in committee this year.
The nice thing is, they did it. Even if it fails, someone else will try again. Eventually it will work.
It's simple. People want to download movies. Paying for it is not the issue, as many people will say. It's just plain old availibility.
The companies would love it if noone could watch a movie outside of a theatre, and would only sell long dead movies. The people think theatre's are a nice experience, but that is added on top of viewing the movie itself. And, if you don't like the theatre, or going to a theatre is cumbersome or not feasable, or even watching the entire movie in one shot is not desirable, the movie needs to be availible elsewhere. Also, people are willing to pay a premium to watch it the first time, but not the second, third, or more. Being many people who download movies have already seen it in the theatre, charging a premium at home would alienate that subset of potential buyers.
That's where this service comes in. They set up a mini-theatre in your house with some control (although, they own the process and restrict its use). This is what people don't like. But, it also means its happening. For Amazon to get this far, means that the industry recognizes the need. It's a large step, though perhaps not large enough for the consumers. The point is, it will happen. Eventually. And the more the industry holds back, the more piracy will pound them on the side.
Sort of. But that is no excuse for missing words like "another".
And, the other meaning is that they got better and restarted fresh the second time to do it faster the secodn time, as in "he ran one mile on thirty minutes, and then two miles in twenty minutes", which is taken to mean that he has gotten considerably better.
"IBM has announced that the 'Broadway' CPUs created for the Nintendo Wii have been shipping from the company's East Fishkill, N.Y., fabrication facility since earlier this year.
I knew it. The double-ewe aye aye stupid name change isn't true. Indeed, IBM even admitted it was a fabrication. Long live the Nintendo Revolution!
That was quick. Almost too quick...
Another excellent example of where the inflection decides if the steament is comlimentary or derogatory.
There's probably some truth to what you are saying. :)
They feel that racial generalizations (aka stereotypes) are unhelpful and inaccurate, and have a major history of abuse.
The opposite is true as well. Why should negativity win?
And what exactly is wrong with that comment?

So calling someone passionate, but mentioned a way to denote tham as a group is a bad thing?
Am i missing something here?
Might as well wait for this latest one though. It sounds quite nice.

Stranger danger.

It seems, at times, that the higher up you go the more insane things are.
They are not insane. They are smart. It's the sort of thing we common folk could not possibly understand.
One thing China seems to have is a backbone. I may not like their policies, but i have to admire their resolve.
...But then again, think of the children.
Birds? Blue-Light?
Q: What did the bird say when it flew over K-mart?
A: Cheap, cheap.
Hmm, maybe i'll have to check it out...later. Right now we're playing with Cyrus and stuff. :)
Thanx for the info though.
BSoD is for the NT (and XP) lines. Win9x is a blue screen, not a BSoD.
The *reason* it called a BSoD, is because the computer will not do *anything* without a reboot. This is not usually the case under 9x.
Frshmeat is also quite hard to navigate.
This is cool, sort of. Assuming all readers can read it.
But, think of the children!

more than just a game
WoW is a game?
I have five sixties that can easily prove otherwise.

So be happy. The child has taken his first step.

Very little of regular hardware would survive well in such situations.
But what if the nails were banged in with $200 hammers?
Seriously, why can't a few more dollars fix it? Or are we that incompetent even after forty years?
Yeah, but isn't it something another million couldn't fix? It's not like they have a realistic udget or something.
for anyone to understand the whole thing.
:)
That actually make some sense.
