Well, I for one hope they (Tool) continue to produce albums. Or if they did not, provide quality recordings of their live shows in the likley event I can't attend. Same for any other artist I enjoy.
What I think is more likely is that artists will self produce the albums and seek alternative channels of distribution. Or seek out somebody independent to handle distribution for them.
I have very fond memories of Aureal. I managed to get one of their sound cards from the Quake3 Arena tour bus at the Activision headquarters when they released the game. Went well with my 3DFX card at the time. I definately would have purchased Aureal products (after I put my freebie card out to pasture) had they stayed in business.
The day Creative looses thier hold over the soundcard market, is the day real 3D soundcard innovation will start.
Unfortunately, "Creative" seems to be a bit of an oxymoron in the sound card market.
It will interesting to see what Google comes up with. I for one however will not pay for anything that presents me with advertising.
What I do see is greater potential for a Google phone than an iPhone. Sure an iPhone could access Google Maps just like a gPhone. But what if you could actually develope your own client side Google Maps software with their API? That is of course assuming the gPhone has is open to developers in that manner. But if it was open to Googles APIs, there is a world o potential not present in the iPhone.
Of course, I'm hoping the iPhone is "hacked" to allow for any ol person to upload software to it.
Simcity 2k was great. I got to the point where my entire map was filled with the 200k person achologies. I ended up terraforming the entire map so there were no hills or water. The only problem was I had to remove all my airports (including military base) because planes were smacking into the archologies. After a I had an archology (and presumably the 200k people inside) go up in smoke, I had to get rid of those pesky planes.
Personaly, I conduct myself the same way be it an anonymous post on a web forum or if I'm talking to somebodies face. Actually I tend to be more polite when anonymous. It is unfortunate that more people don't conduct themeselves in the same manner.
According to TFA, the deal is for students of AU universities with volume licences. In the education volume liscences I have seen, the liscence extends to the students. Which means the school just burns the student a copy. For nothing (or for a materials fee). The school already paid for the student to have it. Why would the student fork out additional money to MS?
There are millions of people playing the game. There are no "secret" character builds. If you have a one in a million idea, supposedly 8 others in WOW did too. And somebody made a post to a forum and everybody knows about it.
I can understand the complaints though specifically with PVP. If I'm in a 2,3, or 5 man arena match the other team not being fully aware of what I'm using and my character build can give me an advantage. On the other hand, if some PVP group is hardcore enough to bother looking at that wow stats page in order to plan a PVP strategey, they can easliy figure out what everybody is using and for the most part figure out thier build just by observing them.
"By stating the purpose of the drug, that "extra 5 seconds" suddenly turns into a full minute or two of small print being read to you. Not exactly what the advertisers want to be doing with their time/money."
No, what should take a minute or two say, is said in a hushed tone, in five seconds.
I read a comic that said somehthing along the lines of "I think the surest sign that there is intellegent life out there is that none have tried to contact us."
Circusware is another good name. Shitware is my choice. But people might think I'm refering to the OS and not the 3rd party software.
It's actually good to hear MS doesn't like the stuff. Personally I'd rather a completely "clean" install. That means only the MS software. I can then add my own 3rd party software that doesn't suck.
I have had a similar experiance. My wife purchased a System of A Down dual disc where the audio is on one side and DVD video content on the other. The disc itself is slightly thicker than a real CD so when we put it in the cars CD player, it got stuck and couldn't be read. Fortunately we were able to pull the dual disk back out, but we can't use it in our cars (or any slot loading player).
When I got home, I tested it on our home DVD player. Audio and DVD worked fine. Great, so I could use it there. So I tried the dual disc on two separate computers. Between the two, there is one oldish DVD-Rom, a CDRW (+-) and two DVD-RWs (+-). Of three available DVD drives, only one could read the DVD. The CDRW could read the CD side but not all the DVD drives could.
I managed to rip both the DVD and CD content so I can play them where I want. This has lead me to two decisions. Never buy anything from Sony (Sony BMG or some subsidiary is the lable) and never buy a CD or DVD that does not conform to the standards.
I recently was listening to Pandora and on the channel I had going I came across two songs from a band that a I really liked. After checking out the band I discovered they are signed by Sony BMG. Oh well. There is other good music out there. Their loss.
Yeah. Gaming is tougher as I get older. It used to be I just rocked her to sleep while playing Quake3 or UT or something. Now it goes something like this.
Me: "Heals, I need a heal!" Daughter: "Daddy! I'm scared!" Me: "You're not even getting hit. Just heal me!"
You hit the nail on the head. Spam is advertising I don't want to see. I don't care if it's "legitemate" advertising or not. If I was to see advertising, I'll opt in. Otherwise, I don't want to ever see it. Targeted advertising on sites I choose to see advertising from doesn't bother me. But like I said, I want to opt in, not have the advertising there by default.
My daughter is five. When presented with a linux desktop (running Gnome) she was quickly able to do pretty much everything she does on a windows box. That included entering the username & password, launching a browser, clicking the bookmark for the desired page and watching the animations. She found Frozen Bubble (I think that's the games name) and played that.

But if you're one of those 60, that's 100% of you.

The first rule of lawyer fees is you don't talk about lawyer fees.
TV is the opiate of the masses
I thought religion was.
I am blown away that with all of our current problems...
So can I have your coupons?

Rob: First you must understand the truth.
Linus: What truth?
Rob: There is no Linux.
No it's what I had a kid for. So they could get me AND my wife a beer.
So I need to "tivo" my games so I can skip the ads?

but a dupe gives me a chance to relay something I forgot the first time I saw the story.
My mother in law once saw a black shirt that said (in a dark brown font) "I'm just wearing this color until they find something darker."
I guess I've found a new material to make a t-shirt out of.

My first thought when reading the headline was a giant satellite spud gun.

Hardly. I spend a great deal of time playing WOW with my wife and have met a significant number of couples who also play together.
I do not understand 21. Are you an adult or not at 18? Pick ONE age.

I'm losing my independence.

Perhaps "Nothing, really" is accurate.
