I'm not so sure. You're probably right however I find multiple cores quite nice to have. I have a few games that take advantage of my dual core processor. Even with those that don't, the extra core comes in handy when it comes to haveing an audio player or web browser running in the background. The one thing I was suprised to find though is I did not get any benefit from multiple cores when trying to run a video encoding app while playing a game. This was really strange since my single core system did better when doing this same thing.
My next proccessor will probably be a quad core, or a least a dual core that is pin compatible with quad cores (socket am2 or am3, though I may go for an Intel, we'll see). While most if not all games won't take advantage of it, game modding will. For example I would be able to more effectively run my game engine as well as my audio, video and 3D apps all at once without impacting each other so much.
"Parents need to raise (and control) their children. That is not the role of the government. And it is not the role of the public at large."
Wait a second here. What if you as a parent have done everything you can to ensure that your child has had a healthy and positive up bringing? Perhaps they still decide to go physcho or misrepresent someones sexuality.
Parents need to be held accountable for thier children but only to a point. They need to be involved in their childs lives. It's not government or the communities job. I can't agree with you more.
But guess what? Children need to also think and act for themselves. Sometimes they make the wrong decisions. Sometimes they do things that are quite simply beyond the control of anyone but themselves. Do you think you can control everything your child says and does? No you cant and no you shouldn't.
Indeed. Two monitors cost far less than a single large one. Though I can't argue that a single 30" screen is more or less productive than two 19" screens.
At work I have to 17" LCDs that run at a combined resolution of 2560x1024 whereas the Apple 30" runs at 2560x1600. My monitors run about $300 a pop while Apples is about $2000. Depending on what you're doing, the little extra screen real estate and single screen may not be worth the extra money.
Apple is a trademark whore. They seem sue anybody using a term that might be related to thier products even if the term itself is not trademarked. But they don't concern themselves at the onset. They wait to see if something actually becomes popular to send in the wolves.
I'm perfectly willing to shell out my hard earned money for the content I want. I however won't support Apple and their lawsuit happy lawyers. I've never liked Apple much and have never purchased any of their products. Their continued litigation against every little entrepreneur who uses the term pod or podcast suggests to me that Apple isn't worth my time.
But really, the US is a treasure trove of horribly mangled english words.
Incorrect. The US is not mangling any words. The differences in pronunciantion you are refering to are a little thing we call Brittish English & American English. Both are technically correct.
Are you somehow suggesting that you (Brittish-English speaking types) have a patent on the English language?
Indeed. I live in a fairly safe area but I am concerned about my childs safety. Drugs, gangs fights, rapists, sexual preditors and the like are not out of the ordinary. I'll do my best to keep my child safe while exposing them to a variety of stimuli. Be it real or digital.
My child loves to play outside, she also loves to play WOW and several other computer games. She also loves legos, dolls, rocks (my wife is a geophysics student) and is ifinately curios, creative and full of imagination.
Is consumer electronics & the entertainment industry the death of childhood? No. These people simply don't want to be parents and want the government to be parents for them. If these people want to know what the death of childhood is or will be, then they just need to look in a mirror.
Physics and AI cards seem to be useful for nothing but games.
Almost correct. Actually I see physics and AI cards being more relevent in non-gaming enviroments. Lets take for example The PhysX card. Softimage XSI 5.x (essentials & advanced) contains support for these cards for rigid body dynamix simulation. I cannot say for certain how much of a benefit these cards provide (don't have the card or that version of the sofware) however there could be a strong benefit indeed.
An AI card could also prove very useful. How about Behavior which is a crowd simulation program that is part of XSI advanced? Or what about Massive or the myriad of other AI software packages?
I do agree though. These types of devices will consolodate. At least at the normal consumer level. I certainly don't want multiple cards to give me the best gaming experience. And future software will likely take advantage of mult-core systems in a manner that will render (no pun intended) add in cards useless.
Ah, but in something like the Elder Scolls games, you can just run around and do what you want. You don't have to deal with plot. If you want to find every type of plant in the game go for it. If you want to run around and kill zombies, go for it.
"The media companies asked us to do this and said they don't want any of their high definition content to play in x32 at all, because of all of the unsigned malware that runs in kernel mode can get around content protection, so we had to do this."
This almost sounds like an apology saying "I'm sorry be we don't have any balls so we cannot stand up for what's good for the consumer." Of course I know it's not really an apology to consumers. Rather it's a lame excuse to try and force hardware upgrades and lock people into their copy protection techonology
I'll keep my eye out for media & technology that doesn't sucks.
So basically we have HD drives that don't work. A new OS that doesn't work. And Microsoft is expecting come January that we'll suddenly be impressed?
Silly? Why on earth do you think geologists are up set? It's because the IAUs adoption of the term Pluton to to describe a astronomical object is a blatant disregard for to science. A pluton is a body of igneous rock formed beneath the surface of the earth by consolidation of magma. An object in space cannot be described as such.
One thing I like to tell people when engaging religious debates is that I beleive in God, not religion. The Bible is religion, not God. Don't presume to tell me what God said.
"You seem to be confusing Fact and Truth. To intertwine Science with Truth would be a huge mistake. Leave the pursuit of Truth for philosophy and religion."
If you have attended church you should know better. Religion having any truth to it is up for debate.
Don't you see? This is actually a method of blame shifting on the part of MS. If Vista fails, MS can blame PC venders for not making thier machines pretty.
Not quite. This software takes two dimentional images, basically mapping them to walls. While this works out for a panorama type deal that gives you a 3D perspective rather than the warped perspective usually you usually get with panoramic picutures.
However it is not particularily 3D and wouldn't give you much in the way of a navigatable model of a house. It would work for taking shots and allowing the user to view the everything without the aforementioned warping. But actually moving arround, no, it wouldn't work well. Th closer you zoom to in, the more pixelated and distored it will become.
If you want a 3D navigatable world, use 3D software and use one of the many web plugins to output in a format suitable for the web.
I read the synopsis and Hans involvement seems a bit odd. He would have had a bit more of a clue as to what was going on if he had been involved with a Jedi prior to A New Hope.
The tie in (no pun intended) meeting up with the Imperials works out but his interaction with the Jedi seems a stretch. Han was borded and he dumped the spice for Kessel. That's why Jabba was pissed.
And why would Han and Choowie be sitting in a bar on Tatooine if they were on the run from Imperials at that point?
The script seems to be getting some twisting.
I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
Yes, that is what the bean counters want. But that's not what the players want. So people realize they aren't getting good value for their money and buy less games. And the bean counters lose money.
Give people more for their money & they just might buy more games.
One thing is for sure: when Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and ATI fight, we customers win.
Don't be so sure. I have been a long time fan of AMD and NVIDIA. I use Windows as a desktop and Linux on severs. I enjoy tinkering with Linux and BSD. I would also like to move my graphical work (both 2D & 3D) to Linux and eventually my desktop.
While I am not completely satisfied with Nvidia's support of Linux, it is my understanding that support is better than what ATI has to offer.
Sure I could switch to Intel for my CPU's if AMD merges with ATI but I'd rather not. I'd rather see everybody stay separate. If there was a merger, I'd rather see it between AMD and Nvidia and let Intel and ATI go on their merry way.
I'm not so sure. You're probably right however I find multiple cores quite nice to have. I have a few games that take advantage of my dual core processor. You'll just have to wait a few years after Heisenberg is born, then ask.

Because civiliians could cary big guns and shoot people.

I bet he's all warm and fuzzy inside having read that.
Ah, but in something like the Elder Scolls games, you can just run around and do what you want. You don't have to deal with plot. If you want to find every type of plant in the game go for it. If you want to run around and kill zombies, go for it.

Does it have a Trogdor constellation?
