  1. Re:...That's not going to work on Napster - Music Subsciptions Are Overrated · · Score: 0

You get a phone from a carrier and it comes with 1 default tone. If you want anything else, you can pay 2-4 bucks.

Well if you get any kind of phone that has a mini-sd card port you won't have to pay for ring-tones or songs at all. Just take any music you have in your computers library, cut it down to however long you like your ringtones to be then save it to a mini-sd card (which you may have to purchase if you dont already own one) then put the card in your phone and wah-la instant ring-tone. The same goes for music except you dont have to edit the songs unless you want to for some odd reason

I think an even better plan would have been to give away free games to kids with good grades. The company would not have caught him as soon, because they wouldn't have been loosing sales they would just have been loosing inventory. It would take them at least until end of month inventory to figure it out, and then he would have provided an even bigger service to the gamer community by giving out free games!

  7. This is quite obvious! on Another US Tech Trade Deficit · · Score: 1

Any idiot can see that the U.S. Economy is slowly failing. The reason for this is a combination of several things but the three major contributing factors are:

    1. Big corporations outsourcing all or most manual labor jobs overseas to make there production cheaper.
    2. With most of our manual labor jobs outsourced our economy is forced to rely on intangible things such as software. These intangible things we are depending so heavily on for our exports may be protected under US law but as we can see by what is going on in the WTO right now (See the article on slashdot about the US loosing its cases with WTO) they can not be protected once they leave the country. This puts the US in quite a predicament.
    3. The mass import of products from countries in Asia by retailers(The leader of which is Walmart ^^) due to the products being cheaper than American equivalents (If there even is such a thing anymore. See 1 for the reason there is a lack of American equivalents in most cases.)

Not to mention the similarities between what is going on right now in the US and the many other fallen empires! In other words hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen we are in for a bumpy ride!

This is not just a comment to the post but to all posts asking about the PS3 Price. Just on a random google search the average cost from the top 3 results I have found for a BlueRay DVD Drive like the one contained in the PS3 is about $1198.28. So in light of this the current price of the PS3 is actually rather reasonable. If you don't like the price then don't buy one. Sorry for the reality check, zero

  22. DUH on Study Finds P2P Has No Effect on Legal Music Sales · · Score: 1

I have been saying this since the beginning of the whole dirty business! This is very obvious and I don't understand why more judges don't just throw this crap right out the window unless it's a case where the person is pirating music and selling it. Other than that there are very few cases, if any, where an individual downloading music to listen to it is going to hurt the record industry. The reasons are as follows.

    1. A person whom downloads music via PVP, most likely, does not have the money to purchase the music in the first place. Therefore, the music industry never would have gained any profit from them to start with. They will however gain profit from the person still listening to the music because they will introduce their friends (providing they have any) that have money to the music whom will in-turn go out and purchase the music because they like the band and want to support it (providing they are honest)

    2. He or she wants to preview the music before deciding that the band is worth supporting by purchasing their album. In this case if they are honest they will purchase the album later if they decide that they like it.

    3. They don't have a credit card to purchase music over a "legal pay service" because they are too young / their parents won't do it for them etc, etc, etc.

The list could go on for infinity the only case I see where it may actually hurt the music industry is where a person downloads music and then sells it! All other cases should be thrown out!

The thing is that too early is what most people say, because they don't want to say the following. World Of Warcraft, Diablo II, Jedi Knight Academy, Everquest. Yes, that is right GAME SUPPORT. Let's get realistic if everyone wants to get realistic. If you want joe schmoe user to adopt you will have to have support for any game he can put in the Dvd Drive.

I set my Mom up on a Linux box and a month later when I went back to see how she was doing she said "Everything worked fine except every game she tried to install didn't work." I then reiterated to her that it was not windows and only games that were supported would work. I then added that optionally you could use an emulator to play other games. She then proceeded to ask what an emulator was.

Yes, it's a harsh reality but in the end this is what most joe schmoe desktop users want. The four main uses of most users are email, web surfing, home office applications, and video games not necessarily in that order (Not everyone is a software engineer / web developer or the likes) and this my fellow Linux advocates is the harsh reality that we have to face. Until Linux can support these four functions with no problems there will NEVER be wide spread adoption of Linux. This then leaves 1 category GAMES! Then the even harsher reality is that this is not under the Linux developers control but the game manufacturer's control, because for true trouble free game support the game has to be written for the OS. Emulators are great but tend to Barf on extremely graphic intensive games. Therefore, Linux would somehow have to become the dominant OS and win over game manufacturers so they will start supporting Linux.

Basically, Linux will always be a geeks OS with a command line and I like it that way! Use it if you want don't if you don't.
