You are going to quote the Producer of the Rush Limbaugh show as a valid arugement? (Marc Morano) I hate to have an Ad Hominem attack, but you don't get a more vested interest than a guy who produces a show that "tries to keep the biggest audience for the longest amount of time" (rush quote from NPR)
One scary thing about the "magnetic field weakening" is that one day, the field will go away, and things will be miserable for a few years, but then the magnetic fields will reverse and come back. It's a good addition to this argument, but that is one more thing to be worried about, it can't be the entire reason for global warming.
Hey Coward: nobody said this was linear. Maybe this is why you think that this isn't a problem. If it's a slow incline upwards, why can't we just make it a slow decline? Many of global warming problems come from the fact that it's a positive feedback loop.
Because those 3 "green" companies you named (PETA? WTF? Are they against using Dinorot now?) get $62 BILLION dollars in profits every year. Pretty easy to be the greatest investor in energy when you make the most money, eh?
This has nothing to do with Republicans, this has everything to do with Money. The one thing i've learned about people who defend their postion (by funding Anti-global warming studies) will do ANYTHING if they think their job is in peril. You tell a man that he will lose his $1.2 mil. a year job unless people keep buying oil, that guy will find a job to get people to keep buying oil.
The gallons and gallons of oil that still will sell for $70/barrel is a lot of money to NOT make, especially when you already have the infrastructure.
Yes, because a meterologist who says rain is "god's tears" and snow is "God's dandruff" should be taken seriously, and if you disagree, you are "muzzling" him.
No, that's just silly to say. the ps3 controller already has "motion controls", but you don't see those flying off the shelves like the Wii is. ps3 and xbox would have to create a complete addon to add to their system to match the functionality of the wii remote, but then it becomes an "extra controller" like all of those steering wheels out there, that nobody is required to use, and doesn't have wide enough adoption to become why people buy the system.
I think that nintendo opened up a new group of gamers (my wife and sounds like yours), so ps3 and xbox will continue to battle it out, but nintendo won't have any trouble sticking around (if they keep the gamestream flowing)
"But just consider this: if the DS were the one to utilize UMD, I submit that it wouldn't be the commercial flop it is"
uh, that depends, are they distributing GAMES on the UMD (which then, umd is no different from the DS cartridges, other than rediculous load times... 4+ minutes for some games) or 3rd rate sony movies on UMD to show on a tiny screen that only play on the DS? Hey, AC, are you Ken katarugi?
This idea is no different from the PVP quests in WOW (on a PVP server) rather than running in and killing a bunch of "stupid" creatures to capture a point, they leave it up to the other side to defend the point. Sometimes, it's rediculous (30 oppostion camping lower level areas), and sometimes there are no other players defending. I think that if this game is beta tested enough (make sure balance exists, safegaurds against griefing, etc.) it could be a great game. All depends on the publisher.
One anecdote to demonstrate why people Care..
My Friend: "dude, i just bought a dreamcast today! the graphics are sweet and it's so much fun!"
Me: "Didn't you hear they aren't gonna make those anymore, or any games for it from now on? They announced it last week."
My Friend: "$&#^!!!"
Good job sony! You've got your supply lines working to get consoles to shelves! One aspect of the launch worked (finally). Can i mention that each of the big box stores has a "cost" of shelf space? If a peice of equipment sits on the shelf long enough, that company will actually lose money on that product. I'm sure the markup for stores can't be that much for this machine.
Lies? Don't tell me the DVD wasn't around during the time of ff7. It was, but it was so EXPENSIVE and UNDERUSED at that time, that it would have been stupid to release a console only to use new discs just so you don't have to swap discs midgame.
Isn't it funny how you lambast people for copying what others are saying, and then say something that several other people have said? Nobody is arguing the power of the cell. Some people are just suggesting that it is no less impressive than other configurations out there. A quad-core pc with dual 8800 vid cards and 4 gigs of memory could probably outperform the ps3 already. Just ask Valve.
Here are my points on this subject:
1) People who know better (CS degrees, codemonkeys, and networking gurus etc) look at the foundation they have to work with, and see the flaws constantly. However, they are stuck with these systems because Windows is so widely used by their Job, other people they interact with and such. This is why slashdotters hate microsoft so much. They have to fix the thing so often. You'll hear mechanics complain about japanese cars to because they have to fix them all the time (and they cram everything into such small spaces), but the Driver loves the car because they don't have any problems getting from A to B.
2) I fall into the moderate user of windows. It works just fine for me and my wife. I can buy the software I need to do the things I need to do without installing emulators and worrying about compatibilty with my Job, my friends computer, and such. I don't necessarily agree with MS's business practices, but I don't really have a choice to move to another OS (I don't know enough to get a Linux machine up and running, and I'm too poor to buy the expensive mac hardware).
3) Most people I know who use windows are the "dumb" users. I got a call last night from my sister-in-law that said "How do i get this camera to work on my computer". I said "plug it in" and it worked. She doesn't get drivers, she wants to use the internet and put her pictures on her computer. I think that these people are the reason why Windows is so bloated. Not knowing enough about coding, it seems like windows programms for the lowest common denominator, so the people at the top (/.ers) see all the useless (to them) stuff and can't stand the powersuck it is.
I had to add to this huge thread.

They are "hominems" according to US law.
You are asking for Microsoft love on /.? Are you new here?
Also, Microsoft lying under oath doesn't put a rootkit on my computer.
" The real money is in the games and add-ons after they sell the console. "
So, since sony included "everything you ever wanted in a game system" (Blu, linux, hdd, wireless) in the ps3, they are screwing themselves twice?

"whoever that guy was who predicted the worst hurricane season in 50 yrs for 2006."
Wasn't that Pat Robertson, the republican conservative preacher? And then said "well, it rained real good on the east coast"

I wonder if this will move us to first-angle projection too. Took them long enough

If anyone wants a PS3 in Utah, i don't have a problem finding one at any store in the greater slc area. I've seen several. Still no Wii's.

I for one welcome our coin-purse overlords...
"When's the last time some sicko dressed up as a Japanese sex demon and tried to molest a horde of young women?"
I don't want to know the answer to this question. I mean, what's the difference between japanese sex demons and furries?
I think sony has effectively killed '1337' speak. Thank dog for that. Maybe we can stop using it (even in jest).
