A unified gaming platform is just what a PC is...
There is no way that an unified gaming platform will ever arise, just because of one simple thing: the consumer.. The consumer want bigger, better looking games, and that's only possible with new hardware.. Even now with current Nextgen Xbox360 and PS3 people want even more splendor...
And with a unified gaming platform that is not possible.. As I mentioned in the first line, the closest thing to a unified gaming platform is a PC..
As always Jobs can lie extreemly well... If he really thought DRM-free music would be best, then he wouldn't have iTunes have all the restrictions it has now... infact, iTunes has got the worst DRM lockin..
Yeah, well, maybe YOU only want to play games on it, I certainly want my console to be able to do as much as possible, and watching films for me is more important than playing games.. so WE do need to watch movies, listen to MP3s, view images, surf the web.. etc.. If I only want to play games, I'll get my SNES out of the closet...
Well, if it would be closer to diesel than ethanol, then it would also be more poluting than ethanol.. And that's not what we want, we want cleaner cars... (And no not those damn little cars, I want my gasslurping Jeep cherokee to be much cleaner)..
4GB for a movie is only when you have a DVD-image, but there are more people who are just fine with the Low quality of 700MB Divx movies, and these days there are so many dvd-players that actually play divxmovies.. And about not being able to get a movie: Just buy a regular computermagazine, and there you find big articles on how to get your movies (even for dummies) (which should be illegal IMHO)..
You are really as dumb as a horse's ass.. You really don't understand hollywood business at all, the blockbusters pay for the 'artistic' movies (which mostly won't cover their costs on their own) , most big studio's have special departments for those kind of movies, but you won't hear much about those movies since they won't showup in mainstream cinema's, but only in filmhouses.. The less studio's get from blockbusters, the less money there is for your artsie films..
Not only do you don't know anything about the hollywood business, but certainly also nothing about the european business as you really think those movies make big bucks..
Also if hollywood is turning out so much crap, why is it that people still want to see those movies.... Because not everyone finds it crap.. And if you want to see the movie, pay for it, or just wait until it comes on the telly..
It's the customer that is responsible for the reason of DRM, not the industry.. If the customer just bought it's stuff instead of copying it, then there would be no need for DRM... The industry is just trying to protect it's income like any normal thinking person would...
Most people who are complaining about DRM are people who don't even buy stuff... But here we aren't talking about DRM, we are talking about a copyprotection.. You can play any HD-DVD/BR disk in any HD-DVD/BR player, so if you buy your stuff you won't have any problems..
The reason for not converting every roadsign etc to metric is simply cost...
When I was on vacation in the states I was very suprised to see a roadsign with KM on it, in the middle of the desert (it made it much easier to judge the distant for me ofcourse). But when people are so used to the inches etc, it would take a generation before people are used to the metric system.. So when replacing roadsigns they'll propably also have to have the miles indication (just like on the speedometer, where it says miles (and in small print km))..
It's just not that easy to convert (such a big country) from miles to KM.. But I must say thay I really never understood the miles/inch thing, it's so much more difficult to work with than the metric system..
But then again, when at the gasstation you won't be scared so much of how much fuel actually goes into you big SUV hehe.. it looks like about 3 times less than when in Liters.. LOL.. (I'm driving a SUV myself..)
Uhmm.. becomming a citizen isn't that easy, well, maybe it is becoming one of Sealand, but I think there are some real legal problems with your own country of becomming one of another...
Then ofcourse, how would they take care of the Internetconnection, power... having bought a country doesn't mean that it stops there.. and ofcourse, what would you do if the US would 'invade' Sealand...
Then ofcourse you also have to find someone who is willing to connect the country to the internet, which ofcourse can also result in legal problems..
It's a fun idea, but very naive...
Well, during the time of the VHS/Betamax there was no other way of getting your porn.. Now there are zillion ways of getting your porn cheap, and DVD porn also runs on HD-DVD/BR players, so there is no real need for a HD-DVD/BR version...
This time it will definitly have no impact on the sales whatsoever...
IMHO, this is just a dumb article written by someone who seems to be using MacOSX normally instead of windows..
Something a lot of people tend to forget is that Windows has to account for much more different hardware then Apple ever had to... Also these kind of articles are purely personal tastes...
Uhm.. the free developmentkit you are refering to for the xbox360 does have a lot of limitations too.. you also dont' have all the bells en whistles on the xbox360..
Well, I'm very worried about the project.. I'm a big fan of indiana jones the movies, but the series of young indiana jones already brought down the movies a bit, the series made jones a much more unbelievable person (who the hell meets so many famous persons in their whole life, let alone in their teens).
But both Lucas and Spielberg haven't made a good/fun movie since Indiana Jones and the last crusade, and even that one wasn't as much fun as the first two (except ofcourse Sean connery)..
I surely hope we don't get to see the fuzzy effects (like putting vaseline on the lens) spielberg is using in all his latest movies..
Now if only it had the Visual Basic syntax... I've worked with so many languages, but I have to admit that I find the VB syntax the most 'clean'(readable) syntax there is..
But I wish the creators of 'D' a lot of luck with their 'new' language..;)
You gain nothing with buying a new TV as none of the tv's have build in digital decoders (well at least not here in the netherlands), so you will have to buy a digital decoder anyway.. And let's not forget the fact that a lot of CRT tv's aren't that old, and are superior to LCD when it comes to SD TV..
Well, and you think Apple 'invented' the aqua interface? not a chance.. just as they have done with the first Mac, they ripped of some other product and called it their own innovation... At least the MS people don't claim it their own 'innovation'..
I think this is just pure BS, maybe some stupid people are willing to put up with Internet applications, but I (and I know a lot of people who feel the same) won't be using an online office kind of product. I still think the online products just plainly suck compared to their offline counterparts.
I just don't want companies like Google to go through my things (like they do now with g-mail and their toolbar).. And what about using an online program when your connection is down?
Maybe in 10 years or more it will be better, but the comming 5 years it certainly won't.. But then again, there are more then enough morons who are dumb enough to be persuaded by companies as google..
People really believe everything they read online.. this is just a bullshit story..
MPAA doesn't have any plans for this... They are just trying to get the MPAA into bigger bad light..
I can't even believe this is put up on/.
I really disliked the idea of remaking 'Revenge of the nerds' there is no way they can improve on the original...
It seems there are too many remakes around these days, it's just awfull...
a year ago with its innovative and powerful Xbox 360
xbox360 innovative? WTF.... there was nothing innovative about the whole damn xbox360. it's a great machine, don't get me wrong, but not innovating...
More important, the whole PlayStation 3 system is surprisingly clunky to use and simply does not provide many basic functions that users have come to expect, especially online.
Uhm.. the xbox360 was even more clunky to use in the beginning..
(Sony is even telling users to wait for future software patches to fix some of the PS3's deficiencies.) The thing is, if people want to use a computer, they'll use a computer.
Uhm.. just like the xbox360, and with that bugger the last patch people downloaded even crashed a lot of xbox360s with owners having to bring them in for 'repair'..
I just think this guy is heavily biased towards the xbox360.. He doesn't write anything good about it, or even ANYTHING really...
How about the great backwardcompatibility of the PS3 (ok, there are some games that don't run properly, but that's not even 1% of all the games), the xbox360 didn't even have backwardcompatibility until the first patch, and there only the most important games ran.. the xbox360 still doesn't have full or even 3/4 backwardcompatibility..
How about the big external powersuply of the xbox360. And the xbox360 didn't come with a cable for HDTV when it was released...

Uhm.. sorry, but the nintendo controller is nothing new.. everybody thinks it's new, but there have been controllers like that for a while now, but never really caught on.. There are also some negative reviews about the wii controller that it is a nice device, but only for a short while, it's just a gimmick...
These days, every new console is nothing more than a 'soupedup' whatever.. (the wii is even more a soupedup gamecube, and really doesn't bring anything new to the market)..

I don't think so, Divx is even worse quality than a regular VHS tape... (at least on a decent TV/projector)

That's where you are wrong. MS did promise backward compatibility, but later got back on it...
Well, there isn't a reason why they wouldn't work on the Wii, as the wii is nothing more than a souped up Gamecube...
But that's still much less than the US has invaded....
It's the customer that is responsible for the reason of DRM, not the industry.. If the customer just bought it's stuff instead of copying it, then there would be no need for DRM...
