in fact in many cases, outsourced people work harder and are more loyal!- thats the whole problem!! who wants to compete with hard-working, loyal and cheap employees? we want our jobs to stay at home.
So you're arguing that because Americans are lazy, untrustworthy and greedy (the opposite of hard-working, loyal, and cheap), they should keep their jobs? Well, it's an interesting idea, but I have to say I might not invest in a company which has you making policy decisions.
People ask me for money every day as I travel to and from work. A few times a week some company will cold call me and attempt to part me from my money. My inbox is full of spam and phishing emails trying to get me to give away my money - knowingly or otherwise. There are probably people working in the call centers of my bank selling my details to criminals.
I live in New York, one of the richest cities in the world.
Free Country (noun): A country who's citizens are able to hold and express their own views, without fear of reprisal, harrasment or inprisonment.
If you actually believe the US is a Free Country, then maybe you should allow her the freedom to express her views, however much you may disagree with them. Call her what you will, but implying she deserves some kind of retribution for expressing those anti-government views seems rather repressive, and, dare I say it, communist.
Those photos were taken on one of the employer's planes, and thus, are not covered by that law. They would likely have had more trouble firing her if the photos were taken at home, and she wasn't wearing uniform, and rightfully so. But if you do something at work which is explicitly against your terms of employment, expect trouble.
But why would you spend $500 on anything? Just spend $60 on a 512mb MS like I did, and that holds several hours of video. Once you've watched that, put on something new.
And for your information, the Memory Stick format IS proprietary, Sony controls the format, and the third party manufactured Memory Sticks have been less popular (as you pointed out) for exactly that reason.
By that definition, SD is also proprietary. You have to pay a license fee to the SD Card Association if you want to use it. The SD Card Association control the format, if you make a card you do so under their strict specifications. The only difference is that MD is owned by a single company rather than an association of various companies.
Even though 3rd parties (reluctantly) make Memory Sticks, they do so under strict conditions set out by Sony.
That's just insane. Why would a company make something "reluctantly". If Sandisk didn't want to make memory sticks they wouldn't, but they do. So they must want to - they must see a profit in it.
For the record, I'm no fan of memory stick. I use CF in everything else I own pretty much, but it really isn't that big a deal to drop down a few bucks on a MS for the PSP.
I compress down to about 200-250mb/hour and the quality is superb, not quite as good as native UMD, but far better than any other handheld device I've ever used.
But i'm not going to go out and buy a ton of proprietary memory sticks
You have to buy exactly one memory stick. Which is not proprietary as the readers, devices and cards are manufactured by more than one company, just like (say) SecureDigital. It's just less popular, and right now, a bit more expensive.
MS is much better for ripped content than UMD, for one thing the battery life is better. For another, there are no plans for writable UMDs, and even if there were, the drives would certainly cost more than a MS.
Yeah, because the guys who run nationwide cell networks with thousands of nodes and millions of subscribers would never have thought of that. My god man, credit them with some intelligence!
How many have gone to some sort of industry conference? Conferences I go to because of work are in Hotels. With beds, minibars, and expenses. I stopped wanting to sleep outside for the sake of it many years ago...
I think it's hilarious that people over here factor the cost of a passport into a trip. I'm european, and everyone has a passport, pretty much from birth. It's just something you have...
I have companies like IBM, Sony, BitMover, etc... using my software and yet I'm unfit to work for them... That basically tells you that the people who "do work" and the people who "do hiring" are not the same and don't talk.
Or it means that "the usefulness of code you have written in the past" is not their only hiring criteria. The company I work for don't even look at someone's technical skills (or lack of) until way into the recruitment process - and that leads to a company built up of well-rounded individuals who can perform a number of jobs as the need arises. That leads to agility, and that is what makes a company survive.
Use NTFS, defrags (and other disk operations) are atomic, and thus safe. Anyway, defragging one of my 200gb disks only takes an hour or so, and if your power goes out every 5 hours you have bigger problems.
No, you have three dimensions. It is not just depth:
a) How far along the groove (time) b) Position in the NE/SW diagonal axis (one channel) c) Position in the NW/SE diagonal axis (other channel)
For stereo you need to describe two variables over time, this can only be done with three dimensions (or, I guess, 2 dimensions on each of two needles).
and lack of foresight, I think that we in the USA are in big trouble, real soon.
It took you this long to figure that out? We in the US have been in trouble for a long time, and it's only going to get worse.
China is the next superpower. The US will lose it's empire just like the Greeks, Romans and British before - through a combination of arrogance, misplaced self-belief and over aggression.
To be fair they were used on Atari STs as well, which had similar sound hardware (until the STE which had multichannel 16bit though a DSP). MODs were cool:)
LCDs on the other hand are still slow enough that they look constant to me. Even at the 60Hz they run at. They even look more constant than a CRT at 100Hz. The only LCD I've seen that I can see refresh is a ginormous IBM LCD with some ungodly resolution.
LCDs don't refresh. While a CRT pixel is lit up by the passing electon beam 60 or so times a second, and is fading to black the rest of the time (resulting in a flicker) an LCD pixel is just on. Until it's not. There's no flicker, no flashing, just constant light.
The 60Hz setting for LCDs connected via VGA is simply the sample rate of the AD converter which converts the incoming analogue signal to something the panel can work with.
Haven't they been selling these for a while? Maybe not Apple themselves, but I'm sure I saw something like this last time I was in the Apple store in NYC.
Regardless, why is this on the front page? Do we really care about Apple so much we need to give free advertising to every accessory they launch? What's next - "Apple launch new white AA battery"?

So I guess this photo of my old building (50th & 8th) is some kind of crazy hoax?

Remember when games used to ship on one CD?
I remember when games used to ship on one floppy. And not be full.
and we start seeing games that come on two, three, four or five DVDs
UT2k4 already comes in a 2-DVD special edition. I'm sure there are others.

Sorry - you're right. Guess my memory isn't what it used to be :)

I've had to return NINE PSPs for being defective
Wow. I've personally bought 4 PSPs (1 jap import, 3 US models) and they've all been fine. You must have caught a bad batch. What were the faults?
Are you noticing the flicker of the backlight? I guess a really large screen may use some different kind of backlight, which may exhibit more flicker.

Only an American would say Hilary Clinton was from the "left".
It is not the government's purpose to redistribute wealth, for the common good or not.
Says you. That's actually one of the few things I am interested in the government doing more of.
and it's 100% very reliable
Hmm...that's an entertaining typo. I meant "it's not 100% reliable".
