Using the wheel for zoom (and click-wheel + mouse movement for pan which, BTW, Maps implements) is the standard navigation technique for canvases that enable zoom/pan functionality. So they've done the right thing here...
On the 'it depends' vein, for me (since it's all about me), I need to have tethering for my laptop since I need connectivity outside of wifi areas, so my tablet can take advantage of that also. I'm resigned to the hassle of carrying my phone with me constantly, so I always have it when I have my laptop or tablet or whatever...
Yes, I'm a fanboi, so help me out here with my lack of objectivity. IMHO, there's just something wrong with the similarity in phones in this picture in this article and others: http://onlygizmos.com/apple-shoots-a-lawsuit-samsung-promises-response/2011/04/
I mean, even the phone icon is the same color? And favorite grouping look and feel? The only major layout difference I see is the page control is on the top of the Samsung device as opposed to the bottom on the iPhone.
I'm not in agreement with the petty pieces of the suit, but I have a pretty strong reaction to the blatant copying as shown in this example.
>Remember, the plant weathered the quake just fine and its backup systems were running UNTIL the tsunami came along.
Yeah, and the fact that the critical parties involved were warned that the infrastructure would not withstand a tsunami that was not out of the realm of real possibility and did nothing about it reinforces the notion that private industry or government that is in the pocket of private industry can't be responsible for making the important decisions here. It's the overall policy that is the problem, not just one frigging tsunami excuse.
Your comment it telling. Lumping all Koreans into the "misremembered" bucket. That's exactly why kind of SATIRE is dangerous, because the unwashed masses that watch the Simpsons (as opposed to the well-informed/. crowd) will NOT take it as tongue-and-cheek, but rather lump all Asians together as those slanty-eyed, gray-wearing drones that Banksy depicts. Satire like the Onion is different since it is directed to a self-selecting crowd. Satire in the mainstream adds to dangerous stereotyping, shit perpetuated by the mainstream media that Asian-Americans have been fighting for decades.
I have a very selfish view on the C&B analogy. I too like my cathedral-like iPhone, but I'm glad that the unwashed masses:-) are pumping up the bazaar to put pressure on the cathedral landlord to innovate and evolve (READ: hurry up and let me switch to Verizon!).
Even if you have a Skype number, you can't configure Skype to show your Skype number in Caller ID whereas I just tried calling via Google Voice does display my Google Voice number. This broadcasting of who I am is more important to me than the encryption issue for everyday use. And, I don't have a handle on Skype's encryption to trust it anyway...
Actually there is an algorithm to compute the n-th digit of Pi without computing the rest.
Okay, so what's the last digit of Pi?
We here in Flatland always get a hearty chuckle when we read about human antics. As you know, we are a Base-pi society as opposed to basing our number system on something as arbitrary as the number of digits we have (btw, what's a digit again?).
I know I'll get labeled a fanboy and flamed by Apple haters but...
Wake me up when Apple's bottom line starts hurting. Then it's a BFD. I'm not saying the it isn't newsworthy that Apple is deleting forum posts, but I'm sick of all the ranting and raving that accompanies Apple's stumbles and demands that "I" or "someone" needs to explain anything. AFAIK, there are still people climbing over fence to buy the so-called defective iPhone 4. Apple acts the way it acts because the drug addicts keep buying their product. When we stop buying the crack, Apple will change its tactics. Otherwise, Apple will think they're justified (and by all accounts, they have been so far) in acting the way they've been acting.

Agree with P, agree with GP, agree with GGP: This whole thead just won't die starting with this ludicrous entry Taco, save /.!!!
Your valid points are obscured by your citing of 64 confirmed Chernobyl deaths. Even though you clarify yout point, why cite that number?
Did you also know that a second explosion there might have rendered half of Europe uninhabitable? Care to address that?
So nuke operators aren't like those portrayed in the Foundation *logy? :-)

>effective corporate compliance and government monitoring
Do you believe that these things exist in your country? Do you think that they ever can given the financial stakes involved? Because I don't.
Mod the parent up!

Isn't there a Beowulf cluster solution to this problem?
Dude, you're serious? Can't someone make a comment in half-seriousness, half-jest without being lectured? Sheesh...
There's a typo--it's not an Urbee, it's URIBE!!! GO GIA--oh, never mind, this is /. :-(

I thought that the NETWORK is the computer, or are my age spots showing :-)

...I thought the BSOD was already patented---it's a feature, not a bug, right??? :-)

Are you new here? This is /. so, it should be listed here :-)

So does that answer your question?
Yeah, but was she hot? :-)
Wait, I thought this topic was already covered here :P
For me, you've hit the nail on the head (but I'm not sure we are thinking about the same nail): I don't think real democracy can really exist.
But that's the crux of the matter isn't it? We don't pay attention. We'd rather vote on American Idol than in a presidential election.

Yawn...Fox News has been doing it for years for the good ol' USofA...
