I don't think the plan was to have this team around forever. I mean they produced "360-degree videos and VR experiences". How many of those does a company like Google really needs?
"Why obsess about Ajit Pai or whomever when the problem can easily be solved by using an app with better authentication - like Facebook Messenger or Skype or Duo or whatever? "
That has to be the most stupid comment on this entire page.
Name another world authority that is generally more trusted!
If they deserve or do not deserve to be trusted is an entirely different matter. But the statement is correct, they are one of the most trusted authorities by the people of the world.
Instead of paying the Taiwanese supplier, he sent the money somewhere else. How did he think that it would not come back bite him? Was the Taiwanese supplier just going to forget about getting paid?
I know you meant it as a joke. But before anybody gets any funny ideas, if the insurance company finds out you were cheating, and if I were them, I wouldn't even tell you that I know. I'd be happy to let you keeping paying the premiums. It is when you or your family comes to collect, I'd claim fraud on your part.
I was using Google Maps yesterday to navigate and when it said I should go past Taco Bell, I was surprised. I hadn't heard that before. But overall I was pleased. Signs for Taco Bell and Burger King are much larger than road signs. It is a good move.
Distance is fixed. Time to travel is not. It might take driver A 5 minutes to cover a distance, driver B might make it in 3. The distance is the same for both. Also, changes in traffic pattern may also alter the time. But distance will remain the same. I can totally see why Google Maps prefers to give you the distance to your turn.
"There's plenty of those folks available in Detroit"
Do it old school then?
I don't think you understand what Tesla is all about. Sure they are only making 2,000 cars/week at the moment, but give them time. They can keep doing things their way and still get to 6,000 cars/week. Their cars are expensive but nobody else has higher customer satisfaction rates.
I cannot speak for others, but for me, on a laptop, power utilization is extremely important. If AMD's product is not too power hungry compared to current Intel offerings, then they have a chance. Historically this is an area where they have not been competitive. But maybe things have changed and they have upped their game.
We would all benefit from good competition in the CPU and chipset market. And I want to support AMD by buying their products. However, they have to put out good, competitive products for me to buy.
It will be interesting to see the mental gymnastics conservatives have to go through to defend this.
Give ISP the freedom to mess with your pipe. Nickel and dime you for opening any port that is not HTTP/HTTPS. That sounds like a great idea. Why haven't we been doing it already?
If his other charitable endeavors are an indication, he may be conducting an experiment on how to make desert hospitable using technology. It might or might not work. He has the money to conduct such an experiment and learn from it. Much of the world does not have the option to move to a better place. If he can crack this problem and share the results with the world, he can potentially help many.
Verizon's letter reads in part: "Allowing every State and locality to chart its own course for regulating broadband is a recipe for disaster. It would impose localized and likely inconsistent burdens on an inherently interstate service, would drive up costs, and would frustrate federal efforts..."
This line of reasoning could also be used for taking away most of the state rights. Inconsistent set of rules across states for roads, criminal justice, elections... Taken to an extreme, UN should be making rules for everybody.
I have a few pieces of audio equipment in my house that either take analog or Toslink. I will always pick Toslink over analog. Particularly for long runs. Long runs over analog is the domain of the utterly stupid. I don't need expensive Monster Toslink cables. I buy mine from eBay. These things are dirt cheap.
"Companies used to rely upon loyal employees. They'd invest in them, and those employees would be career-employees."
Yes yes. Everything was better in the past. Every single damn thing. And then somebody or something came along and destroyed our way of life. That person or entity must be destroyed. And then we'll all be in a happy place again.
Bullshit.
Pick a time. Any time. There were people like you in that time period. People who thought like you. And believed that present is shit and some other time was better and we need to go back to it. The fantasy you paint about companies investing in employees and those employees being happy career employees, by and large did not exist. Sure there are always going to be a smaller percentage of employers who treat their employees right. But, by and large, it has always been: 1. Abuse the employees. 2. Maximize profits.
An anonymous reader shares a report... "according to my source at the DHS..."
Well, I am not anonymous and my source at DHS says that these claims are BS. Who is more credible?
In 2014 Newsweek was pretty damn sure they had the right Satoshi and dragged a poor soul through hell and back because of their "beliefs". Can we give this topic a rest, until we know for sure and for real? None of this anonymous reporter citing anonymous sources at DHS crap.

"Donald Trump? Billionaire."
That is what he has been claiming before, during and after filing all the bankruptcies. No evidence of him being a billionaire exists.

Google Hangouts:
1. It works on the phone and all of my computers.
2. Doesn't need a phone number.
3. I can voice/video chat, if I want to.
4. I can share screens.
What other chat tool does all of these?
Instead of paying the Taiwanese supplier, he sent the money somewhere else. How did he think that it would not come back bite him? Was the Taiwanese supplier just going to forget about getting paid?
1. Live a healthy lifestyle.
2. Don't buy life insurance from this company.
What is up with all the griefers?
I know you meant it as a joke. But before anybody gets any funny ideas, if the insurance company finds out you were cheating, and if I were them, I wouldn't even tell you that I know. > What are they gonna do. Raise your rate?
You wish. They'll refuse to cover the cost of the damages if they found out you were cheating them.
> "Lost your phone? Finding it is simple! To start, sign in by typing the six-digit code we've just sent to your lost phone."
I use the Google find your phone feature often. I have never seen the process you describe above.
"I've had enough of this scam artists bollocks."
I can't tell if you are joking or serious.
The scam artist has been building electric cars and rockets for years. The real things. Do you know any other scam artists doing that?

If the law allows them to do this then what are you complaining about? Don't like it? Change the laws.
This is not the same Slashdot that many remember from the old days. It is now filled with grumpy old naysayers and griefers.
"Will people ever get tired of mockery and posturing and "them vs. us" nonsense?"
There was nothing in the ads I found offensive or tiring.
