Intriguing idea but I suspect it would be somewhat like reading Babelfish translated text. Metaphor, grammar and even context (words that have different meaning depending on context) translates badly.
I imagined Chinese as a sort of "universal" writing language where anyone that wrote using Chinese's characters would be able to make themselves understood regardless of them writing French, German, etc.
Actually, all research points that they had a lot more spare time, meats of various kinds is a very energy dense food item, grain production requires a whole lot of work for piss porr nutritional values in comparision.
Doubt that. Hunting take much time and energy and is an all year round activity - you can't store it unless you have salt - while grain harvesting take ~3 weeks and can be stored indefinitely as long as you keep it dry.
The written form of Chinese is mostly the same across the country, while the spoken language differs; the symbols have nothing to do with the pronunciation, they simply express the concept.
Does this means that people that can't talk to each other can write instead? Convenient then, no need to learn multiple languages.
Well, people back then had 10% bigger brains than we do now. They lacked convenience such as tame animals and modern grain so they had less time to sit around pondering - thus maybe they needed to be smarter than we are now.
Then as life got easier (with plant and animals changing to accommodate us) we lost some intelligence in favor of easier births.
Use whatever units you like, but don't go redefining SI prefixes. Whoever thought that was a good idea was just dumb, or at least was having a glaring moment of dumbness...
Human language is context based so having kilo being 1024 when discussing C is no worse than calling a computer a "Firewall" despite it not having any slowing effect on fires. Inventing a new word is the "dumb" move as that would at the end of the day still be confusing to people outside the industry and give very little if any benefit inside the industry as there's rarely any need to mix binary and decimal notation.
I at least can safely say I've never confused the two KBs or heard about anyone confusing the two while I have been confused by greek symbols being used for different purposes in math/chemistry and physics.
The Pro-piracy comments you've seen is (probably) more directed towards "freedom" as the technologies/laws that limits piracy also limits that much valued freedom.
All TVs I've seen got multiple inputs. We recently bought a cheap one and it had 4 HDMI, 2 SCART, RGB, Svideo, USB, a couple of ports I don't know what is, and - of course - the port we actually use: cable in.
I'd love to do something like that to annoying people on the bus, but I'm always concerned about retaliation the next time I encounter the person outside the bus. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time.
No, your great fear should be getting them as your boss. It's more likely than some random encounter. Trust me.
Yoshi's Story and the Wario games didn't really scream "Mario" all that loudly, but even then they were pretty good games. The 3D Marios were perhaps not as good as the 2D Marios but pretty close I think (didn't care for them personally). Paper Mario may not be everyone's favorite but I belive they have a loyal following.
Point being that when Mario is prominently in the title "you know" that it's a good game, even the spin off games such as Dr. Mario and Mario Kart. That's what I find impressive about the Mario franchise.
New Super Mario goes "back to the basics" and appeals to new and old school gamers because of that. The he last really good and big selling 2D platformer was Donkey Kong Country so the market was probably waiting for something like NSMB to come along.
But one reason it's NSMB that's the "big seller" and not "insert good 2d platformer I've never heard about" is partly because of Mario's good rep, not just because it's good old school 2d platforming game with a marketing campaign attached.
Here: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/homs/cromagnon.html
Cro-magnon: 1600cc (Ice age humans, ca 30 000 years ago)
Us: 1400cc
So our ancestors had 12.5% larger brains.

Grammar would be a problem though.
They were able to build sufficiently mouse proof storage even back then - they weren't entirely stupid you see ;)
Making a hut out of mud and grass that won't fall apart at the first sign of rain is impressive actually. Probably needed frequent repair though.

We'll never know but it's possible isn't it?
FYI Internet Explorer renders your site just fine. It may not be pixel perfect but only one person in this world actually cares.
Nice images.
Cheers.

I believe that all of those cheap 10/100 switches are really two hubs with a switch connecting the 10mb to the 100mb.
No. It's actually cheap hubs that are really switches because with today's tech it's oddly enough easier to make a cheap switch than a hub.
Will not be given to some Microsoft demo of them putting together other peoples tech and claiming it as their own.
Wasn't MS one of the first with a "google earth" like service, just lacking colors.
Heck, mount it on the roomba to patrol.
That would be pure awesome.
Somebody do this and post on youtube, now!
I think it was with OS X Leopard
It was on "Snow Leopard" and cost Apple a few warranty replacements, props to them for that I'd say.
Quick, we need a plumber.
It has always amused me that the most popular video game character by far is a "fat Italian plumber" instead of mister "awesome cool superdude".
What's so wrong about them suing him?
There's nothing wrong with them suing him.

Ergo pro freedom = there will be piracy

Naa, Hitler Reacts to Wolfenstein 3D has that beat.
"He carried off 3 tons of gold! How did he do that?"
I tried Aleph One but I thought it was rather boring. Felt like they took the library level of Halo and stretched it out into a full game.
Mind you I think Wolf3D and Quake SP is boring too so my gaming taste isn't exactly mainstream.
PHP is cross-platform. Who the hell develops on Windows on purpose?
Raises hand
DevPHP is AFAIK open source and works pretty well for me.
I get mod points all the time. Got five mod points right now and had 12 mod points before that. I don't metamoderate but you can try that.
No imagination of "my mafia" anymore. Just buttons... clicking... clicking... clicking...
Sounds like a game that tries to be a winner for everyone. The more you click the more you win.
No wonder it's popular.
They are now all playing Mafia Wars.
Why are so many people playing that game? Is it modern day D&D?
I'd love to do something like that to annoying people on the bus, but I'm always concerned about retaliation the next time I encounter the person outside the bus. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time.
