    Education ... has some measurable real world results, including ... reducing overpopulation.

    Seriously? So armed with education, you think people will read a book instead of have sex?
    Or do we plan to push out propaganda while we "educate" to try to get more of the world to sterilize itself for the greater good of those who remain?

    Example: Police officer shoots and kills an unarmed citizen. On administrative leave pending review.

    In our typical instant gratification society, most people would read that and go "gotcha! whats next?". Well, some of us want more. I want to read about that cop going to trial. Or that cop going to jail. Or, dunno, why the hell the DA chooses not to press charges.

    Wow. Not one of your senarios allowed for the possibility that the officer acted properly (such as the citizen was armed.)

    Lack of follow up also occurs when an article is factually wrong and the news media doesn't want to own up to it. And, unless you have the money to do so, there is no way to force them to retract their statements (at least, not on page one where everyone previously read what a peice of shit you were.)

    You seem to have a distrust autority (which can be healthy) but your examples show too much faith in the integrity of the media.

    Debian's package manager is incredibly annoying if you've used something nice like Portage or Paludis.

    I don't believe Ubuntu has strayed to the point of having a different package manager

    There was a context to this to make it seem like a serious comment and that was the breakup. Many people have snapped over something like this.

    Really? I guess I missed the part were the French helped the Poles as per their treaty. Poland would have done better if they had know beforehand that France (and Britan) were not going to back them.

    In fact, it wasn't until France was attacked 8 months later that they even started fighting.

    Hell, France lasted a little over two weeks longer than Poland and it did not have the soviet union to deal with (and had eight months of knowing that Germany was on the military move.)

    I am sure France has many things to be proud of, but World War II should not be one of them.

    I will. I keep up to date with it whenever I need to buy a graphics card.

    Nvidia just came out with vdpau which will keep my media computer with them for some time to come but my computer and my wifes are always up for grabs.

    That said, I probably not would run out and buy a new card I didn't need. It would determine my next purchase, though.

    Last I saw, I only noticed solid development on the old cards. While this would not be a deal breaker it would be something I would consider.

    Surely there was a reason they were trying to fingerprint those people for the police to even notice...

    I have never had a cop in the US (nor Canada) randomly ask to verify if I have fingerprints.

    I am the type of viewer that has a sudden want for a particular movie. By the time it arrives from netflix (which is usually one day to return and one day to receive) I have no desire to see it.

    Congrats to both you and Thomas for not switching to the name calling that usually surfaces. The whole exchange was very refreshing.
