I did this. Had 2 routers at home, and 2 separate networks. One called public, and once called private.
One day I got an email from a lady several states away saying my IP address was "stalking" her, and that she was working with law enforcement to figure out why. She already had my name, address, profession, and IP address.
I replied that I had had an open network, and sent her a screenshot of the MAC addresses/host names connected at that time, and also a log of all DHCP leases that had been issued on that network the previous week.
I also unplugged that router. I never heard anything more of it, but even having to "defend" myself to that extent was not worth the hassle just to be the nice guy in my apartment complex who violated COX's TOS and gave out free internet.
So now it is no longer.
But this senses that you are using two fingers rather than one and scrolls no matter where you touch on the pad.
I'm inclined to assume you're referring to a set area on the (usually right) side of the touchpad that scrolls with one finger used.
I am a 911 dispatcher in Kansas. In CA, ALL cell calls go to CHP, which was common in many states before W911 phases I and II were rolled out. It's somewhat absurd that they still do that. I hope people don't see your post and hang up next time they are in a 911 ACD queue on their cell phone, and dial back from their landline. That would only delay their call further, and doubly so.
When you call and hang up, the other end of your call continues ringing into the PSAP, until it is answered. Then that call will be called back before the landline call is answered. It's very counterproductive to hang up and call back. Especially since most people don't answer when you call them back from 911, since they don't recognize the number on the CID.
but getting to that link implies READING THE ARTICLE and using a mouse. yeah i know... this is slashdot... This is Slashdot.. we're all browsing the internet with Lynx. What's this "mouse" you speak of?
"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."
I flew 4 flights on Continental in September and on every one there were both documentation AND verbal instructions stating that wireless devices could only be used in "airplane more" and that you had to be able to show that there was an on-screen indicator to that effect.
But how would they ever know, with laptops with pcmcia or express cards it'd be easy enough to hide...but now there are laptops with EDGE/EVDO cards built-in! And anything GSM DOES cause interference with radios!
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/ has a text messaging service that will likely do this.
But 1394 is superior from an operational standpoint, even if the controllers are a bit of unwieldy packaging-wise and expensive to boot.
You mean you have to pay to turn it on??
They took my dad! :'(
Then again the hymen is considered a "barrier," but it can be broken. Just not by slashdotters.
I just go one step further and make my email
:)
slashdot.org@mydomain.com or
borders.com@mydomain.com or
amazon.com@mydomain.com
Then just have a catch all email box. If one alias starts getting junk mail I just create it as an alias to "junk@mydomain.com"
All of this hosted by mail.mydomain.com goes to google hosted services.
And it's not the domain in my slashdot info
So we can rate our Google search results +5 Insightful?? It's like perpetual mod points for those who have none :)
No, test tickles are what they give each Elmo doll at the factory prior to shipment!
I have a domain name that is dynamically updated to my public IP. So an IP-to-DNS lookup makes it easy.
And of course having the police get it for you doesn't hurt.
www.grandcentral.com Not exactly what you're looking for. But a stopgap, anyway.

Of course, an 8" floppy drive on the internet is about a 5.25 inch hard drive in real life.... ;)
Hurd??

First ping 4.2.2.1, then if THAT works, you ping Google. First test connectivity without a DNS lookup. That's how I've always done it.
Or use an email program for email instead of a web browsing program
wow, double wrong. first of all it would be lend and not loan, since it's a verb. but second, the word is borrow.....
There are gays on slashdot? Cause we all know there aren't any ladies :(
And GNU Hurd is right around the corner!
is that anything like the phantom pain amputees experience in limbs that are no longer there?

...stuck a brick up my ass?
...and Scrabble
You have it all wrong. It's:
