    It's just software...there will be lots of gphones (probably 3 or more this year), so you should be able to find one that works for you...

    I was disappointed with KDE 4 in Linux (ended up downgraded back to 3). It seems like it's not as configurable as past versions and not very stable yet.

    I couldn't figure out how to change the location or configuration of the "task bar" type of thing on the bottom. Couldn't figure out how to make it so right click on desktop shows applications listings...anyways, might upgrade when more configuration options are available...

    I think that to some extent we are a dying breed. I'm only 23, and I'm still old enough that when I first started using a computer all we had was shell (dos, apple II). So I was forced to use CLI and am more comfortable using it as a result. My little brothers have never seen a shell...for them problems on a computer are fixed with lots and lots of clicking in the "control panel".

    I'm not saying that CLI is going to fade away, because IMO it still has lots of advantages, just saying that only unix geeks will think to use it.

    I second this, it's just a WYSIWYG html editor, and it really was a pain when we tried to use it for a collaborative writing assignment with a group of 4. Very hard to keep formatting uniform, there is no way to do page numbers, no word count or page count...I'd suggest to stay away.

    Google is supposedly after Block C, which is 746-757 MHz and 776-787 MHz, for a total of 22Mhz.

    They reference the TI chip, but I'm pretty sure that the phone they use in the demo is the all in one chip in the Qualcomm MSM7K series.

    There are no linux transcoders that work with Xb 360 though, plus XBMC works pretty well for HD content in my experience...

    All of the Bittorrent clients eat up too much CPU, especially when downloading very fast (400 kB/s hogs hard drive and CPU )...so I finally threw TorrentFlux on my fileserver and will never go back! It's a PHP client that actually uses the standard bittorrent client (can be modded to use other command line clients), but I can have 20 torrents going now without slowing down my desktop.

    I agree...a comparison of TWC vs Tivo:

    TWC - Crappy HD PVR, no good features, you have to tell it what to do and how to do it...completely no brain...but WORKS in the end--and works with OnDemmand.
    Initial Investment: $0
    Monthly: $9.95

    Tivo - Nice HD DVR (slow ui), works well. No OnDemmand
    Initial Investment: $299
    Monthly: $16.95

    I think I know what I'm going to get...

    I thought the last season and a half was good except for about 4 "filler" episodes where the episode had nothing to do with the ongoing plot (ie., union strike episode, doctor killing the refugees episode, etc). And I thought that the finale was cool with the Hendrix and the 4 more cylons, Jan 2008 will be awesome!

    Also, he says "in respects of the way we have this show constructed, this is the final season". I am not familar with the original series, so I don't know what is going to happen (and don't want to know!), but maybe they are saying that the show could exist with the characters living on the ground or something...

    GTA as a PC only game would fail...PC gaming snobs must realize that the demographics are much different for PC gamers vs Console gamers, and that console games almost always outsell the PC equiv.

    The two demographics:
    • PC gaming - playing counterstrike/WoW, with virtual friends online, alone, in the dark.
    • Console gaming - playing GTA/Madden, passing around the controller to friends (in real life), while at the same time passing the bong, listening to music, etc

    You are insane...maybe you're fed up with your job or whatever, but I know a mechanic who is doing everything he can to get his son through engineering school (his son is currently a mechanic also), so he can get a white collar job.

    Get a clue, go work on a car or in a factory for 8 hours and figure out how much spare time you have when you get home for "some fun programming".

    Their computers come with Internet Explorer, and it's good enough. They're not going to embrace Firefox just for the sake of it, because they're entirely apathetic about almost everything to begin with.

    I'm an American computer geek, and I can't figure out why anyone (geek or civilian) would embrace Firefox. I don't think Firefox has many advantages over IE anyway. I use Opera, and when on a lab computer with Firefox/IE I can't tell a difference in performance between the two...

    I just found http://ushare.geexbox.org/ which claims to be able to stream WMV files to the Xbox 360. There are some other third party windows clients as well.

    I couldn't find any transcoders for the Xbox 360 that will run on linux. My fileserver is a linux box, seems crazy to have a windows box stream from the linux box and then transcode it to the 360. Luckily I have the Xbox Media Center kicking on the old xbox.

    I use a similar setup here, except that there's no way to get the task bar...you just right click on desktop to pull up the application list. That's why I don't know how people can complain about how KDE looks, you can make it look like whatever you want.

    Well, this is exactly why America will not be competitive. We are spoiled!! The guy who lives in some shithole in India is actually willing to work hard to earn a living and live a great life...we all grew up in suburbs and went to schools where we didn't have to do anything. For the most part we'd cry and get what we want, we have no motivation to improve on our lives.

    This is obviously very generalized and maybe a little exaggerated but to some extent I think its true.

    That would be punishment to the citizens of that state, as they would have to continue to pay federal taxes in addition to the hiked up state taxes, but without receiving the funding benefits from the federal government. That's why succession should just be a small form the governor fills out ;)

    Do you really believe that we don't have any asat capabilities? How many rockets do we send up a year with classified payloads? If we could do it in the 70s then we can do it now, only better. If we don't, we should!!!
