This is why I'm glad I live in Washington. I can do it by mail. To vote, I simply put in a tick mark, check mark, or fill in a box next to the candidate's name OR next to yes or no for a measure.
Practicality should be taught in schools, and marketing people should not be allowed to make design decisions.
Truth be told, the only instances of issues with Vista I've seen are with *some* RAID setups. They can be JBOD, they can be RAID 5 doesn't matter. Some RAID controllers need to be updated.
The EVGA 780i motherboard is the most common culprit I've seen, and unless you have a floppy drive you can't update the controller easy.
Doesn't help that Vista has issues installing on SATA sometimes. I mean, SATA! That stuff is everywhere now...
Other than that, I love Vista. It's pretty slick and does a lot of things better than XP. Of course, I still prefer XP x64 on my laptop, but only because the Inspiron 1501 is a PAIN IN THE ASS to get any Linux distro fully working with it.
Its great how people can say one way that you patenting ideas and the like Is Wrong and then get bitchy when the company they happen to hate (rightly so in some cases, others are just jumping on the bandwagon) does what they would of done.
Oh sorry. MS probably didn't include proper credit. Not surprising given the company...
How many of the websites are operated inside the US, by companies based in the US?
YouTube for example...
Anyways, the DMCA is one of many laws that needs to be rethunk in the US. Probably won't ever happen and would take a lot of pressure to get it right but personally I think the DMCA causes issues.
I was going to rebuke this completely, but I can't.
We Americans have a *lot* of house cleaning to do, but we first need to convince our fellows that it's really necessary. Too many Americans don't care beyond their daily lives which is why you run into damn stupid things like we have been.
Maybe one day, the dream can live again. Until then, America is slowly rotting away.
In MechWarrior you were inside the Mech controlling it through a neural interface.
Also, there were still regular armies. Mechs just supplemented them and ripped them apart really, but they were still there.
You also forget that in the MechWarrior series there was a lot of Urban combat. You don't want a 100 ton 8 story weapons platform shooting up your neighborhood...
Long standing fact: If the Steam DRM servers go down Valve has a said they would disable the DRM so you could keep playing the games you purchased.
And you can still sell games, though not as well. You'd have to sell the whole account.
Change has to start somewhere. People being selfish/apathetic like this is part of why things like the USA PATRIOT act get passed.
Mod me +1 Wishful Thinking. I just shudder to think of a world where no one stands up and tries to make their homes better. The sheer amount of will it takes is staggering, but the results are worthwhile.
Read his post. He quotes the OP who is talking about Silent Hill 2.
Also, I question a horror fan who doesn't admire the occasional bout of ambiguity and loose ends in his stories, mainly given the sheer volume of stories with loose ends.
To each his own I suppose, but I agree with GP. Silent Hill 2 was great in that you couldn't be certain what happened. That is one bastard game developer who is too good at creeping me out.
This is why I never understood that many here on Slashdot are screaming "Go Stardock! Woo no DRM!" when Stardock technically does the same thing as Steam.
Granted, Steam DRM is very unobtrusive. I imagine that if you regularly used Impluse that would be viewed as unobtrusive as well.
Either way, you require something other than the game to play it and keep it updated. I personally don't find Impulse useful so I don't play Stardock games.
Oh, and Valve has, since Steam was released, had a contigency plan to unlock the DRM in case they go under. If Stardock ever went under would you still be able to update and play their games?
To be honest, I'm not perfectly familiar with Impulse. I didn't like it when I tried it so I removed it so I don't know how it works as well as other things on my PC.
It is disheartening, but it is true. As Americans we have lost our way. How much does your average American even know of the founding of the country? Of the details of the Constitution?
The majority of people are just flat out ignorant of what it is supposed to mean to be American.
The whole point behind America was to secure liberty, freedom, for everyone. You do that by protecting the minority. You do that by putting individuals before corporations.
The entire point behind our election processes was to get your voice heard. But what has happened?
The number of Representatives has been capped. It is no longer 1 for every 30-50 thousand like it should be. Now it is only 472. Always. So as populations shift and grow, the number of seats change. Some States have one seat while others have 16. Where is their say?
Or even when you are voting for President it has been changed. The runner up no longer gets any position whereas before they would become the Vice President. So in close races a large portion of the population is shunted aside and grows sullen.
Over the years we've slowly legislated away our rights and its going to take years to straighten it out.
The biggest problem to me is that lately it seems people think the Law is the Law and cannot be changed.
The biggest point to America originally was that the Law could be changed.
I sincerely hope we never see another civil war. I sincerely hope we can straighten this shit out. But without people at least trying we never will, and many people seem apathetic because they're just "one guy."
Go read over your history books to your kids. Our schools don't seem to be doing a good enough job. I know I learned more about the founding of America and the Constitution thanks to the Internet than I ever did in school.
I say this same thing in a different thread and get modded Troll, and he gets Insightful. Slashdot moderators never cease to amaze me.
Anyways keep him modded up. People need to learn why this keeps happening rather than complain when it does. The message is greater than the messenger as it were.
I'm surprised I haven't had any issues yet. I'm running an EVGA 780i Nvidia chipset motherboard with x2 8800GT. I only started having heat issues recently because the back fan on my case went out.
Actually, thinking about it I think the Akimbo coolers on my video cards are what are saving me. Nothing like doubling the width of your video card for a GPU cooler to save you from heat damage I guess.
Well see you later then wanderer. Good luck wherever you end up. But one thing America doesn't need, especially right now, is people like you.
Just give up and quit. A few dissidents in the 1700's should have done the same. They had painted themselves in a corner and took on the most powerful nation in the world at the time, and they didn't have a handful of soldiers in comparison.
Or in the early 1900's when a madman made a power grab in Europe with some scary new tech, someone decided it might be a good idea to help stop him but couldn't convince people until they were attacked out of the blue.
Or how about in the 1960's when a few brave people of a minority race that had been degraded and treated as animals decided enough was enough and fought back without violence?
You coward.
I'm an American. I pay my taxes, I try to keep morons like Bush out of office. I didn't have jack to do with what has happened in our country before my time and fairly little since then.
But that is my mistake. I chose not to vote when Bush was first elected. I'm the one that decided to never write my Representatives or Senators. I'm the one that chose to only cast my vote the second time Bush was up for election.
I never got in the process. I never fully did my part as a citizen of the US. I wasn't mature enough to take the responsibility.
People like you are exactly why we are in this situation. No sense of responsibility. No sense of honor, or pride. No sense of duty.
The truly great thing about America is that every citizen has a voice. But what use is a voice you don't use?
Americans have let people they don't really know do the talking for them. They haven't exercised the responsibility that goes with having the rights we have. Americans have been a bunch of children.
Well kids, we've made a mess. And its time to clean it up. So suck it up and do what needs to be done because once this deficit is fixed, we have some social and legal issues we need to correct as well.
America has lost its way. Lost its way due to inattention.
How many boards would the Mongols hoard if the Mongol hordes got bored?
Fixed it for ya.
Touch screen aside, how is it any better than the Blackberry or Nokia N95?
As far as I can tell, the touch screen is the ONLY thing going for the iPhone. The app potential is wasted thanks to their draconian controls.
This is why I'm glad I live in Washington. I can do it by mail. To vote, I simply put in a tick mark, check mark, or fill in a box next to the candidate's name OR next to yes or no for a measure.

Bugger karma.

You sir, are ignorant and unless you pirated it spent way too much on the OS.
Windows Server 2008 *Is Exactly The Same Kernel* as Windows Vista.
Literally, the _only_ difference are what services are available on the machine. Try turning off some on Vista and you'll notice the same results.
People need to stop perpetuating misinformation.

Who tagged this suckithawaii?
I nearly choked laughing. Funniest thing I've read all afternoon. I just heard it like Sean Connery would of read it (ala SNL skit of Jeopardy).
I was going to rebuke this completely, but I can't.

My ex-girlfriend bought one yesterday and absolutely loves it. She's already got AIM and other IMs working on it.

No. See Doom or any number of cheezy sci-fi horror films.
Read his post. He quotes the OP who is talking about Silent Hill 2.

I know this is OT, but I can't help but wonder if your sig is serious:
White-space devices will kill over-the-air free television. Reserve channels 2-51 for TV only.
Mostly considering, in the US anyways, there won't be over the air TV anymore in a little bit here.
This is why I never understood that many here on Slashdot are screaming "Go Stardock! Woo no DRM!" when Stardock technically does the same thing as Steam.

Yeah! It's a great idea!
That's why it was originally made that way, just with a slightly longer time frame.
Kudos to Disney and other "big media" corps for making it indefinitely rather than within a set time frame.
Mod him up.

Love how honesty is viewed as trolling just because you disagree.
Just furthers my point. You close your eye and cover your ears and decide to ignore what you don't like to hear.
It really is sad when one thinks that Democrat or Republican == Government.
Note to Americans: You can vote for _anyone_ you want that is old enough to be President/Senator/Representative/Governor/Mayor/etc.
