    while working with embedded systems, I have seen the Unix "KERNEL PANIC" error more times than I can possibly count.

    oh come on now. Since XP was released the random 'crashing' isn't prevalent any more.
    If you have bad hardware or are overclocking, that is a different story, but also your own fault.
    Lets be reasonable, this is like a wife of 30 years, bringing up stuff you did in high school!

    ahh yes, the insightful economic post from someone who took a single accounting class in high school.
    The situation is a little too complex to try and shoot it with a silver bullet, but you try anyway. Some wages may go down, but I can guarantee the majority don't. Thanks for playing though.

    I did not click the link, so I did not feed his website or anyone else's with ad-revenue besides slashdot.

    Reading about him on a forum at best results in little or nothing. When it is taken Beyond this forum in a various manners, that is when his attention and his ability get a rise out of people will pay off. Bashing him on slashdot is ok. R'ing The FA is bad.

    You have to always assume people are out to get you, that is the only way to protect yourself this day and age. Always do your homework and always come prepared. Salesmen/Realtors/Priests will always upsell, oversell, and screw you for every penny because that means a bigger bonus for themselves.

    Some of these excuses were pretty funny, and I understand why this article is on slashdot, but News? not to me.

    Computers are lightning fast compare to a few years ago, there should be no need to 'poll hardware, wait 3 seconds, test next piece of hardware'.

    If properly parallelized and you remove all the pointless Waits, a BIOS check should be damn-near close to immediate and still manage to check everything.

    BIOS writers probably figured, eh, so what if it takes 10 seconds or so, thats still pretty quick, and never rewrote their crappy legacy code.

    yea, no kidding, the only reason they want to build these models is to dump all their cash while it maintains its maximum value.
    do you really think this will help the stock market stay UP? It will simply allow the rich to pawn their stocks immediately, while the rest of us get shit on, watching our fortunes collapse, and they'll take all their protected money and reinvest it back into the market when it has bottomed out. Hooray.

    I don't hate C because it has limitations or speed issues, I hate C because of pointers and no garbage collection.
    C code should be reserved to a limited few because most applications written in it are plagued with bugs and vulnerabilities.
    My hair stopped falling out after switching to a newer technology. Maybe I am not a pure-bred developer, but who cares, my life is better!

    I don't work in Marketing (aka slander) on a daily basis, and sometimes I forget about those things (very helpful and helpful showing up on surveys)

    yea, my investment outweighs the cost of a new X-Box, which goes down every year anyway. So hopefully by the time mine explodes, they will be around $150 or less. Which is only slightly more expensive than 2 games.

    99% of the people I know are down to earth and humble about things as complicated as the economy... and don't go around suing anyone they can. Please do not group the majority of Americans into the articles you see in the news. Otherwise you will think we are all idiots, rapists and/or murderers.
