When you consider that most of the time you'd be using the iPad somewhere like home or a hotel - with WiFi.
For most users, 2GB is actually plenty for a months worth of use. And if it's not, they simply pay more for what they need.
Hmm. Let me compare my anecdotal evidence to yours. I don't have an iPad or iPhone, but I do have a smartphone. I use it at home (yes free wi-fi), hotels (~50% charge $10-$20 a night for crappy internet), airports (sometimes free wi-fi), while in a car (no free wi-fi) and at work (to avoid corporate web filters) to name a few places. I can easily see how someone could go over 2GB/month. Add all the streaming video/music/etc and it really adds up. I think the iPad would be used even more for pictures/movies/etc because it has a nice, large screen. Add the tethering option with my laptop and I can only imagine how much data gets pulled.
I think their new pricing stinks (and I guess they can charge whatever the hell they want); fortunately I am not a cellular customer of theirs.
Most earbuds block less sound than foam earplugs and they don't ask us to remove them.
If a flight attendant really needed our attention on a plane, chances are the situation would be quite evident. You are already supposed to be buckled up in case of sudden turbulence, and in the event of a emergency where you would have to leave your seat, people aren't going to be more distracted by their MP3s.
That being said, I guarantee you can find dozens, if not hundreds, of job postings looking for someone with 10 years of ASP.Net development experience!
Still, i'd rather have someone like me than someone with an MCSE. I remember one girl who loved to proclaim that she was an MCSE but one day called me to help her because she didn't know how to install Win NT4 Server.... WTF? (I wasn't an MS guy, I was Novell certified).
I see this all the time as a "VMware" guy. I have to work with SAN, Network and Systems (Linux & Windows) admins all the time. I am appalled at how little knowledge these people have in their area of "expertise." I am a generalist by nature, but I swear I could be the lead engineer of these respective departments in 3/4 of the places I walk into. It's sad really.
Even if it isn't, until there is a device that can read/write to this disc at much faster speeds than current optical media, I can't imagine this ever taking off. And if it could reach those speeds, it probably could literally take off!
I don't mind people talking on phones when they need to. e.g. I'll be at the station in 20 mins, can you come pick me up? But why have full detailed conversations while on a packed bus/train?
Why does it matter either way? If that person on the other end of the phone were there, it would have been OK? I think the main problem is people speaking too loudly. That is definitely annoying, whether it's on a phone or in person. Same thing on an airplane, train, restaurant, sidewalk, etc. I have no problem with people speaking on the phone assuming they are using a "normal" volume to speak with. People speaking to each other excessively loud in person annoys me just as much.
Ultima VI for me. On the original Sound Blaster if memory serves. It was so amazing to hear that incredible soundtrack after listening to the PC speaker.
The "XP" meaning "experience" nomenclature has existed well before Windows XP. I've personally never heard of "Extreme Programming," but I am sure XP as experience is older as well.
I understand #1, but the others don't make sense. How do they create cross platform games today? Surely not from scratch as you are suggesting. Can't similar methods to PC gaming be employed? Code to the lowest common denominator, but allow the game to scale up appropriately to the more powerful hardware? Maybe not have the physics engine enabled in the Wii version or whatnot.
As for your made up numbers, maybe if a quality game was made for the Wii maybe 40% of the owners would buy it instead of 5% and ALSO 40% from other platform gamers would buy it as well. Seems like a win-win to me. Nintendo themselves have proven several times that a game can be created without using the "gimmick" of the Wiimote.
Wii doesn't just have lower resolution. It has considerably lower physical RAM, slower CPU, different controller, and the 3D hardware uses a fixed pipeline rather than programmable shaders. So we need to redesign parts of the graphics engine, simplify the assets, change the game design, and shrink the levels.
So why not make a whiz bang game on the Wii and the port it to the other systems with extra eye-candy, levels, AI or whatever? It's the more popular system, so making a quality game for the Wii first and then porting make the most sense in my mind.
Similar situation in Georgia a while back, but I believe someone was able to sue, and win, the GA Lotto about false claims of odds of winning or some such.
I had never heard of the contest until this morning. Not the best marketing IMO. That being said, I am probably within their target demographic, but I just don't care about baseball computer games. I think I have seen some baseball video game commercials on TV, but I couldn't tell ya the platform nor the franchise.
"What I have noticed is that the employees at Chik-fil-a's are better dressed and more polite/helpful than at most fast food restaurants"
Holy crap yes. I tried Chik-fil-a for the first time back during Xmas while mall shopping. I was actually stunned when they seemed more than helpful to make sure I was satisfied with my order.
They also require their student staff to maintain a minimum GPA (3.0 I think) to maintain their employment. I think that gives them a higher caliber of employee than what you see at a lot of other fast food establishments.
They are also very good about scholarships, promoting from within, etc. There are many folks at Chik-fil-a corporate that started out at one of their restaurants.
The main problem with Bing is that you can't really use the world as a verb like you can with Google. Think about it - you can't say you're going to "bing" something, it just sounds gross.
And when Google started gaining popularity people said the same thing. Same with the Wii and probably will be the same with the iPad....
* Glass screen is uber-fragile; I know of several people who have managed to break them even when being mostly careful. It's such a common occurrence that a lot of insurance policies won't cover it anymore.
This is the only point I disagree with. We paid $50 for a refurb original iPhone (no plan/contract) for our son over a year ago so he could have a media player for our road trips. He's almost 4 now and he has put that thing through hell and back. It's been dropped, thrown, had various food/drink spilled and splattered all over it and that thing keeps on trucking. I am not a fan of the iPhone, but I can definitely vouch for it's toughness. I cannot imagine what your friends are doing to break the screen when my 3 year old hasn't managed to do that yet. My BB can't take as much abuse as my kid's iPhone.
Yup. Same in the organization I am currently working with. Out of 10s of thousands PCs potentially affected, only ~800 actually got nailed, fortunately none at their retail locations. I was one of the lucky ones. After we determined it was an AV issue I was up and running a few minutes later. Safe mode -> rename/delete the latest.dat files -> reboot. Mine didn't delete the svchost.exe like some others did for some reason. Sucks for the folks that aren't somewhat computer savvy and had to have someone walk them through the steps over the phone.

They should ban sleeping on planes as well... ;-)

The software swap-meets of the 80s will be the "in thing" again!
Somebody wastes theirs on you...
It all sounds like pie in the sky stuff to me.

(The rain was coming down so hard it was blocking the signal. Of course, since I have a DVR, it wasn't an issue at all.
Unless you are trying to record at show at that time. Seems to happen to me a lot unfortunately...
That's great. Too bad for some of us who can only get the Internet via our local cable company...

Wow. Thanks. I've unsuccessfully tried to find the "die again" mod that I remembered from the mid 90s or so. This place had it. Sweet.

eSATA requires external power. I don't think USB 3.0 does. If that is true, USB 3.0 has a huge advantage in my book....
According to Eat This, Not That, most of Chik-fil-a's menu is pretty healthy. Just stay away from the fried stuff & the carrot & raisin salad.
And their 4 billion calorie shakes. Man, those things are heavenly....
