Ah, ok. I see this point. I just didn't want people thinking that because the BSA had no rights it's a good idea to pirate stuff. But in the context of this article, your point is important.
They have ZERO legal rights for search-and-seizure or any such like (until, of course, they can prove to a judge "probable cause" or other similar evidence just like anyone else who wants to request a search warrant).
It is important to note that it is easy for them to get enough evidence for probable cause. All it takes is a disgruntled exemployee who knows Jimmy over there used a crack on the IDE his department refused to purchase for him.
Technically, this is kind of what the Karma bonus is doing, although if people don't think you're worth a 2 you get mod points taken away (which is really nothing versus subscription points since you paid for the latter).
Why are all posts metamoderated? There should be a way to dispute moderation (anyone should be able to, not just the author because they will tend to agree with upmods that are unfair) and only then it goes in the metamod pool. As it stands all the posts go through there, even the ones where no one disagrees on the mod.
Perhaps the system can be gamed for stories off the front page, but then just have mods all mods done to those go through the metamod system.
I usually keep my PS1 mem card in slot 1 and PS2 mem card in slot 2. Most PS2 games will actually check the second slot for a memory card, but I have a few PS1 games that require the memory card to be in the left slot.
Forget about it with a multitap. That just screws everything up.
Speaking of PS2 stuff, check these out. PS2 controllers working on a PC, fairly badass.
I didn't buy my PS2 to solely play PS1 games, but it was a nice feature at the time I bought it. I didn't have a PS1, and I wanted to play the FF games I had missed. Later on, I was happy with the backwards compatibility since there were games like Dance Dance Revolution that were PS1 only. I also heard abotu this great series called Silent Hill and was able to play the first game in the series with my console. I briefly went on a classic game stint, where I would play games from the PS1 era that were considered to be the best of the best (e.g. Metal Gear Solid). This is all the while also playing PS2 games. It's good to be able to go back.
I don't have an XBox, and if it had backward compatibility, it would be a bigger sell to me if XBox 2 could play XBox 1 games. I might switch to XBox for that generation, knowing I could pick up the PS3 games with my PS4.
You cannot use a PS2 memory card with a PS1 game. You may be able to copy from a PS1 to a PS2 memory card out of game (never tried), but a PS1 game will not recognize a PS2 memory card as being present.
Yeah, we did terminate their rights and put in comcast. It's funny, because we had the same lineup of cable companies, though: TW-Roadrunner, then MediaOne, then AT+T, and now Comcast. It's pretty coincidental.
Bloat from usign a text format has never been a concern for IETF drafts. SMTP, POP3, IMAP, FTP, HTTP all have their control done in plain text where a binary format would be more efficient (FTP and HTTP obviously allow for binary data transfer but the control is all text). Using a text format makes a protocol easier to implement, and thus easier to adopt. It's also good when you are debugging a server, as you can just telnet to the port and type in the command set you want to test and read the output.
XML is hardly a flavour of the month. It's nestable nature makes it superior to other text based transmission protocols, such as EDI. It is chatty, with the data:format ratio often being 1:3, but this drawback is outweighed by the advantages that make the chatter necessary.
Neither of our posting history lends itself to trolling so I don't understand why you would think my post as such.
While I agree that different distros have different places for things (your post was so terse as to not really convey that message. The thread started as on how to remap ctrl-alt-del), I still feel that this is all arcana that an average joe should never know. Average Joe shouldn't even know what a shell is, let alone ask where it is. Average Joes just don't use the command line and they certainly don't edit text files under/etc/. It doesn't matter to Average Joe that on win98 their system files are under/WINDOWS and on win2k it's under/WINNT/system32.
What we do need is more graphical configuration tools that abstract away having to know where under/etc/ that file is. More and more of these are coming out. Then we'll keep our shells and arcane paths for those of use who want to reboot with ctrl-alt-insert instead.
One annoying thing about PO Boxes is that only the USPS is allowed to place mail in them, thus no FedEx, UPS, or other courrier services can send items there. More of a warning, because they are still useful for things like domain registration.
But think of the cost benefit savings in not having to carry your own watch around. By carrying your own watch, you have to expend the extra energy in lifting and transporting the watch, which results in a higher food bill for yourself. By allowing me to carry your watch, you will offset this cost because I will just stay in one spot all day. I have several other clients in the pipeline with timepiece needs similar to yours, and so by using my services, you split that cost across them.
AFAIU, SCO's claims of IP ownership are global, and countries like Russia and China have more to gain from linux IP being free than an MS saturated U.S. market.
his son still just took the Astrolabe out of the box, tossed the manual aside, and then precedes to ask questions on #astrolabe that are answered on page 2.
There may be such a requirement by MS to allow Dell to avoid the OEM fee. MS could take a stronger position that an OSless computer is more likely to pirate their operating system.
Ha! I could say it's unfair, I am the one with the skills and they are the ones who want the skills. If they want me to work for them, they've got to play my game.
In reality, we both want something out of meeting each other. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I do believe in playing tha game to maximize what I get out of it, though.
Wow, /. turned into a blog so slowly, I didn't even notice.
Already have.
Grow a penis? That sounds just stupid.

Because through evidence holding laws, they can take them out of business without them being guilty of anything. Just ask Steve Jackson.

Are you in Jacksonville or did this also happen elsewhere?
:) that was funny. too bad I'm not a mod today
Sounds like a precursor to this.

There's always this
Of course, this was better from a technical perspective, IMO. Ken Starr as Vader is quite good, as is the cigar.

So when can I pick up your watch?
You type the www? http://slashdot.org is the proper URL (thus giving the joke H-T-T-P-colon-slash-slash-slashdot-dot-org).
Because the average joe often wants to remap the ctrl-alt-delete key sequence? When they do this in Windows, what wizard do they use?
Sorry, this isn't "exactly" anything except maybe exactly why linux is an operating system that offers more choice.
AFAIU, SCO's claims of IP ownership are global, and countries like Russia and China have more to gain from linux IP being free than an MS saturated U.S. market.

Perhaps it is also the effect of SCO's ranting about owning linux. This way, Dell is indemnified against any SCO claims.
