Or maybe the gov't failed by snapping up all of those mortgage-backed securities in the secondary market through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, contributing to an unnatural housing bubble. Maybe the problem isn't so much a lack of "risk regulation" as it is a problem of moral hazard stemming from the ability of primary lenders to offset the risks from sub-prime lending to secondary lenders, and if the gov't and other buyers had made those loans directly we wouldn't be in this mess.

I was really just talking about this issue in the abstract ... in the originally referenced song the author is addressing everyone who might listen instead of an individual. I'd never try to steamroll over anybody by insisting on using their "old" gender pronouns in conversation when they'd rather be seen differently; it doesn't hurt anybody else if they want to be called "she" instead of "he," and saying something like "heshe" every time would just be passive-aggressive and plain rude. Your point that the most respectful thing is to call someone what they want to be called is excellent.

I just like a little variety and I feel that there's room for literary and artistic elements in gaming. I'm not so sure that holding a different definition of the word "girl" than you do is really disrespectful. I get what you're saying but you've got to understand that to the population at large there is a difference between someone born biologically female and someone who surgically removed their genitals and started hormone therapy (or whatever other combination of measures you took to legally change your gender). For example, you never could and never will bear a child. Not that all women can, but they've generally got a higher likelihood of being able to do so. So people like to have different words for those different things. You've got to face the music, to Joe six-pack you're not a girl, you're a post-op transsexual.

I get what you're trying to say but I also feel like you're trying to strongarm others into changing the definitions of their words. If somebody doesn't think you're "really a girl" and you take offense to that, you're just picking a fight over semantics. Go ahead and wait until they say something really inflammatory and hateful before you bust out the righteous indignation, you'll win more hearts and minds.

I haven't played one that I would consider high art yet

The original Fallout series made a lot of pretty profound social commentary while still managing to mix it with some humor. If Fallout existed as a novel instead of a game I'm pretty sure it would have literary merit. Furthermore, Fallout was a great example of how explicit content can deepen a game's experience; it was possible to do some really rotten things to the NPC's in that game for personal gain, including killing women and children. The possibility of doing so made it more meaningful when the player acted with nobility instead. It also showed how difficult it can be to treat others with justice when times are hard which is a theme worthy of any novel; scarcity tempts the player to take advantage of others, and the NPC's in the lawless and desperate setting frequently turn to slavery, looting and cannibalism to survive.

Another game that might be considered art is Zeno Clash. The visual style of the game is very unique and surreal, and the plot of the game is inspired as well. I'd describe some of the literary aspects of the game but I don't want to spoil the plot twists.

There aren't any racial levels in "Dwarf." You could have a level 5 fighter who happens to be a dwarf. There are racial levels for other races though, usually monstrous ones. You could have, for example, a level 5 doppelganger.
