I went to see MI4 Saturday. My first trip to the theater in more than a year. After paying $20 for 2 tickets and $15 for concessions, 15 minutes into the movie a family sat down behind us and proceeded to talk to each other and to crunch the loud snacks they smuggled into the theater. We moved, but we could still hear them. Totally ruined the whole experience for me and I won't be going back any time soon.
This is exactly correct. I've tried breathing under only 2-3 feet of water in a shallow pool through an open hose and it is physically impossible, as counter intuitive as that may seem.
Actually the second co-pilot had control only briefly and the captain never touched the controls during the accident sequence. The first co-pilot (who was less experienced IIRC) insisted on flying the plane with flawed situational awareness, which I believe negatively influenced both the captain and the other co-pilot.
I think the most likely explanation is that we are just the product of freakish accidents (giant impacts and other perfectly timed extinction events) which is not likely to be repeated no matter how many habitable planets there are in our galaxy.
On March 31, 2006, the amateur radio operators from AMSAT in Germany tracked and received radio waves from Voyager 1 using the 20-meter (66 ft) dish at Bochum with a long integration technique. Retrieved data was checked and verified against data from the Deep Space Network station at Madrid, Spain.[22] This is believed to be the first such tracking of Voyager 1.

A commercial reactor would generate steam to drive a turbine to create electricity at about 35% efficiency. We've been using steam to generate electricity for at least 100 years. There HAS to be a better way.
I think the H1N1 paranoia is responsible for the early spike in the Google Flu Trends chart. From the site:
We've found that certain search terms are good indicators of flu activity. Google Flu Trends uses aggregated Google search data to estimate flu activity.
The DX is the new model with a 9.7" screen. I had a Sony PRS-505 but I returned it because the screen was just too small for me. All of the content I've downloaded from Amazon via whispernet so far has been free. I will be busy for quite a while reading free books from Amazon and Project Gutenberg. This is my first ebook reader and I have to say that reading on this device is very enjoyable for many reasons (built-in dictionary, wikipedia access, PDF support, small size/weight, etc.)
The difference (with the DX anyway) is the screen is much bigger, text is sharp, and it's more comfortable for reading online articles than my blackberry or iphone.
I read lots of negative comments about the kindle browser before I bought one but it's really pretty good if you browse mobile sites.
Of all the millions of species that have lived on earth we are the only one to develop technology. We are rare.
It's easy, you just need a reactor: http://spacechemthegame.com/

I mostly use the PS3 Slim because the Xbox cooling fan is too damned loud. The PS3 has always run whisper quiet. Both are clean and free of dust.

Great post! I'm listening to Naxos right now, thanks to you!

Informative post. Wish I had mod points.
Code the scanner software to automatically blur the face. The resulting images will then be essentially anonymous.

Interesting. Isn't this what Al-Queda has done to the US?
This was Osama's plan from the beginning.
You are thinking of the Kindle 2. It has a screen size similar to the Sony. The DX was just released last week. It's bigger. MUCH bigger.

Here's a review of the current Astak model with links for more information. This device appears to display PDF files adequately.
Probably one of the Astak readers. A large format model is due to be released later this year.
