Excellent idea, now onto one of my backburner ideas. Someone needs to create a KOffice (KWord, KSpread, etc) reader that runs in Windows, so I can slowly wean everyone off MS Office formats. I know, I know, sending an editable file to people instead of a PDF is dense, but you have to start somewhere.
Mandrake Single Network Firewall - http://www.mandrakesoft.com/products/snf . Simple to install, and simple to maintain. The latest version, which is still in 'Cooker', uses shorewall - http://www.shorewall.net and can be installed from the Cooker Beta ISO simply be select the 'snf' package only.
If you telecommute, your company should pay for the phone line, and get a business line. Nothing like riding the back of the phone company and then complaining when it breaks.
We call it CommunityNet here in Saskatchewan, and the project is over a year old. It's mandated by the Federal Government, Supernet just happens to be the name for the 'Alberta' part of the project. The mention of Microsoft or any other software provider is meaningless. Each hospital, school, government site runs whatever software they want, and here, serveral of them are running Linux, Mac or Solaris. Some of the schools also have the Sun One? connected to the network.
It's a nice project, and a huge cash cow for the big ISPs and hardware providers, but there is still room for the little guy to get a peice of the action
I couldn't care less if people are herded like cattle for Christmas or Sousveillance. I was simply pointing out that it was unlikely that he read the FAQ before posting.
"..Typically these would include various racial groups which the US has declared war on right now.... "
Like us Atheists. Or those who celebrate Chanukah. Or those who celebrate Ukrainian Christmas. Or....
"I think this WSD should be on a more relaxed time of year. Maybe some time in April or something."
From the site:
"Q. Why was Christmas Eve chosen ? The shops will be rather busy.
A. that's exactly why. 12:00 noon dec.24th will be the busiest day, and the best expression of corporate culture, and the best time to shoot. It's a human element.. crowds of people herded like cattle, overseen by the surveillance. Also the lineups will be long, so it was felt that folks could entertain themselves while waiting in line by shooting. When you get bored waiting in line, liven it up with some camerafire. Shoot when you're bored. Shoot when you're frustrated. Shoot when you're being shot!!! "
Give you a nickle if you read the article in question before posting.
Tim Hortons doesn't let you smoke anymore. Bastards. And Robins is two minutes away from work (have to buy donuts if I show up late....)
Last year all of the McDonalds here started accepting debit cards. Ugly rumour has it that the American parent wouldn't assist the local chains with the infrastructure, because 'it's still not mainstream'. Well, up here it is. Complaints rose enough that they put them in.
...where everywhere you go you can use a debit card. Bars, Fast-food joints, computer shops, video stores, pawn shops, sidewalk fairs, casinos, car dealerships, you name it, they take Interac. The one or two exceptions to this are shocks, and are slowly disappearing. The only time I've had to use cash was at Robins Donuts last week, since they're to cheap to put in a machine. Oh, and to score some smack.
Andromeda is one of the few shows I will skip out of work early for. I'm impressed by the dialog wrt military conduct and discipline. Sounds like it's been ripped right out of the Senior Leadership manual....the Canadian Senior Leadership manual, of course.
Maybe it's just me, maybe it's the 26hrs of no sleep running on nicotiene and caffiene, but why aren't ISPs providing more content? Most think providing a mail server and access to that old 386 running the newserver (whose location, by the way, is only known by a guy who retired 3 years ago) is 'content enough'. I personally think that a _large_ ISP should not be allowed to exist unless they provide news/mail servers, a web e-mail gateway, a local business/event search page, a mirror of tucows, a mirror of sunet, and a Quake III Arena Server. It would sure as hell make my life easier.
And while I'm on a rant, why the hell does it take 16 hops to get from ISP 'A' (who I work for so I can pay the bills and run my little site) to ISP 'B' (who I host my site with, cause they're cable, and I can get a cheap Static IP) when they are only 4 km away from each other.
-Yes, I know why, but you gotta think that the network guys are going to get together and build static routes to each other-
Simple. The RPMs are not compatible with 7.2 build. 'Cooker' junkies have know this for quite some time. That and a new kernel, new KDE, new glibc, new install process, new world domination matrix...whoops, that one is my own.

And by believing that you already have this covered, I believe that you will be a lousy manager. Next you'll say you have an 'open-door policy'.
...
As far as I'm concerned, you're all suckers who have fallen for Lindows marketing.

You betcha they did. There are still things about OS/2 that I miss, and EAs are one of them.
Good thing I got it before the mirrors where /.'d. With the 'few' problems with the Beta, you might be better off with Cooker....

Without payphones around, it will make it much more difficult for me to find a hard line out of this place....

I had to say it.
Unless you can peel the sticker off your IBM drive and find a Western Digital label, you should be OK :)
