    My place has been testing older servers we've had sitting around for power usage, computation power, throughput...
    What fits the curves stays, what doesn't gets nuke-wiped and sold off.
    Seriously... MRI machines are fun.
    Clears up storage and re-purposes still viable servers, usually with vmware.

    So now we have Franken-rack, Bride of Franken-rack (thin cabinet, no side space), and Son of Franken-rack (half-height cabinet).

    ICANN needs to learn how to play solitaire, maybe then they'd get the reason they're there.

    Yep, Intel has like 60% market share.

    And they have the worse performance.

    And they have some of the easiest Linux support.

    It's getting to the point where I don't think "we need to stop this guy", instead it's "we need to help this guy".

    More and more, it appears that police and prosecutors need something:
    Extreme mental help. Locked away, extensive questioning and medication.
    Either they don't have a firm grip on reality; or they do. and they're squeezing too tight, and it can't breathe.

    Can't find the link, but I remember reading a few months ago about BAC monitors/interlocks installed in all new cars within the next 4 to 8 years; effort lead by Toyota... sooner or later, just like airbags, it'll be required.

    Use of private companies to enforce the law is illegal, and if it actually now isn't recognized as such, then it needs to be declared fiercely, illegal.

    We the people need less restrictions, not more. I'm not doing anything wrong, what is wrong with you that you think you need to track me?

    I think part of the problem is Pro vs. "amateur" vs. real amateur.
    Pros are the money makers in the big sports.
    "Amateurs" are the money makers in the sports most people don't care about.
    Real amateurs are the rest of us.

    My belief is that part of the problem is the cost of entry to participate in the events.
    Sure, you could ride a bicycle coast to coast with just what's in your saddlebags in competitive time,
    but the rules state that you have to have a chase/support vehicle...
    "amateurs" can afford it through subsidies, grants, gifts, and sponsorships.
    A couple of years ago, some co-workers and I looked into some various cycling races, but the support vehicle requirement killed us.

    Hell, you could be the best target masturbator on the planet, and if people want to watch that,,, great; but when the rules pop up about how you do it, what you do, and rules about support personnel, you're just another jerk-off.

    Flat out though, I'm against doping; but if you wanna do it, fine; but let all the consequences be on you, you made an assload of cash on it, you're gonna need it to survive the next few decades. Drug abuse is bad, but the war on drugs is worse.

    Even with open alternatives, especially with free alternatives, It has been realized for two to three decades (if not most likely longer) that college texts were bullshit prophet (sic) centers.

    If someone has anything to hide in "higher education", more likely than not, they are doing something against any form of education, and are more aimed at indoctrination, and probably don't even recognize it.

    Honestly though, I believe any restriction on citizen weapons (not just firearm) ownership/carry is unconstitutional.
    I live in Chicago, been to 35th and Michigan, they have signs declaring the SC's ruling that the registration law, and the forbidding of registration of handguns was not permitted, was perfectly legal; like a prize; kinda looked like...

    Here is the 2nd amendment, in all it's modern glory, as the founders intended:
    All American citizens must be armed at all times and circumstances. It does not matter if it's a one-shot 22lr primer-only pistol, or a 10 foot full-auto .50-cal rifle hanging on your back; it does not matter if it's a pocket knife, a naginata, or a claymore; it does not matter if it's a cattle-prod, nun-chucks, a louisville slugger, or a stainless steel dildo (thank you Lord Carlin)...
    If you are not armed, you will be arrested and most likely deported.

    Every gun owner I have met is 3 things:
    1) interested in the safety of his community, not just himself and his family, everyone.
    2) a firm believer in the rule of law, by everyone.
    3) Realistic. The SC has ruled that police do not have to do anything to keep you safe or alive... "to serve and protect" is just a nice slogan, like "land of the free"... they made this decision under Clinton. As someone else has said "when seconds count, count on the police to be after a few minutes".

    I see short-term benefits, but I worry about the long term damage prosecutors will try to inflict on us.
    (and as to prosecutors, is there really any more satanic a profession? Satan WAS "the accuser of the breatheren". Think how police think; now think how lawyers think; now combine them... NOW. offer them some anti-paranoid medication, because they really need it if they want to join us in the land of adults).

    been wondering about this also.
    mainly due to having only one 20A outlet, and the building is old enough I don't want to risk that much.
    looking to build a new system, I want to make a strong but low power-draw system (gonna use a 45nm intel chip). Looking at specs on various parts suppliers sites, I come across numbers like "total thermal dissipation", or things like the notes on Intel's ATOM board: "fully populated board with accessories uses 75W max"

    Where do I find out exactly how much wattage I need?
    A lot of the calculator sites seem to be either a tad old, or just give info on a few select parts.

    on a note about the article,
    I'd rather see what the power usage is while starting up (seems that's when the biggest drain usually is).
    as for the printer, OK, it's just a deskjet, but show the drain on a laser warming up (for B/W, you're better with one of those).

    I've been saying the same thing since I started riding.
    After the MSF class and then riding for a few years, when out with a group of people, they usually want me to drive the car as I'm the "safest driver they know".

    The updates to it, DDR2 and better floating point, those are nice.
    Now if they would make a small system, somewhere between a mini-mac and a shuttle pc in size,
    DVD/RW, 2 Gb lan ports, some usb, basic video, 2 or 4 gigs ram (or empty memory slots we could fill ourselves) and a place for a SATA drive
    not using it as a co-pro, but as the main CPU, with a linux install disk and the SDK,

    compare my imagined specs with the PS3 crippled cell (7 out of 8 working, and 1 of them against you for system security).
    If it were in the same price range, that'd be nice, maybe a way to get more people to experiment/develop for it.

    As this is regarding truckers though, you can bet there will be "un-official" deployments of this.
    One other poster/former trucker has posted about being taught how to lie on the logs the very first day.
