In the wake of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act and Broadband Access and Services (FCC 47 CFR Part 64) We are now required by law to allow access to individual student computers for goverment surveillance. This new law requires us to make many extensive and expensive upgrades to our campus computer network. Such upgrades are costly and the cost will have to be passed on to each student.

Um both gases are equally as flammable. Propane is easier to compress and store as a liquid. Natural gas takes too much enegry to liquify so it is much easier to just transport it through high pressure pipes. If natural gas is compressed into a tank it is usually done in a tank that is filled with charcole to increase the storage capacity. the gas is usually stored at a lower pressure, usually about 250-300 psi (17-20 bar). Ever see a cng bus? The whole roof is coverd front to back with tanks for the compressed gas.

In liquid tanks it is quite rare that liquid is drawn from the tank, instead you let the propane evaporate as you lower the pressure by turning on your stove etc.

I agree. One this about half life 2 that pissed me off was that the game play was totally linear when it could have been dynamic and fit the story better. What would be friggen awesome was if highway 17 bought you to different areas with different and multiple goals to complete. Like goto the coast and retrieve a special key that will unlock a door back in town where you started off. and have the damn areas change! More interaction with NPC's would be a big plus not just some random cannon fodder. perhaps the first time you roll into town you fight a little and achieve your goal. then you have to come back later only to find yourself in the middle of a combine raid. Maybe even trains could get you around the city too. I want dynamic game play not this continuous path to keep charging through. City 17 should be one big ass map not 100 maps stringed together.

I plugged it in and used the console cable and what do you know it booted and passed all tests. The admin password was even cleard to default. I then bought 2 gigabit nics to test it and everything worked just like it should. The port lights are screwed up but have no effect on any function. I now have an 8 port layer 3 fully managed gigabit routing switch for 20 bucks.

So yea people are either ignorant of an items value or improperly diagnose its condition. My friend bought an $1100 laptop off ebay for 600. The auction looked legit and they guy had good feedback.

Does the Slashdot community think an electric motor replacing the alternator on an internal combustion engine will add 5, 10, or even 15 mpg?

Maybe. Even at their low 5mpg I find it hard that a small alternator sized motor could produce any more then 5 HP for short periods without needing serious cooling. This looks like it could only benefit very small light weight cars. A few mpg in city driving on a small Honda Civic like vehicle in the city might see some improvement if it does what it is supposed to do. There claims that it could help SUV is questionable. I own a 95 Chevy Tahoe (It is heavily used in our business so I need it) and it averages 10mpg. It weighs about 5000 pounds (2268 kilos) empty. Getting 5mpg more out of it will require allot of effort to see a 50% improvement. They don't produce any specifications on torque output so I would be a little skepticle.

How well do you think the super capacitor battery pack will hold up at -20 degrees Fahrenheit?

I don't know what they mean by "Super Capacitor Battery Pack" because a capacitor and a battery are 2 different components. Yes a capacitor is stores a charge like a battery but how is it a capacitor battery? I think they might mean the dc-dc inverter is bi directional and can use the cars battery in tandem with the capacitor bank. Capacitors do hold there charge even under extreme cold temperatures. Heavy trucks sometimes use capacitor banks to assist in very cold weather cranking.

Does this have the potential to be an environmental friend or disaster (how long does the battery pack last)?

If it uses regular capacitors and they are used within spec then they could last for years and years without any problems.

Exerting that 150W for more then a few minutes is an extreamly exhausting task. Plus couple that with the horrible effiency of the system. This whole idea sounds more like a publicity stunt then realistic thinking. If you can't get electricity and can't get fuel then where does the enegry come from?

That is exactly what I was thinking. If you need compressed gas for it to work where is the enegry coming from to compress it? I doubt any hand operated device will produce any results. If the system were engine driven and the vortex tube is so inefficent, then why not just use an engine to drive a compressor? Better yet run a generator to run a real more efficent refrigeration system? Maybe even a solar array to do away with fuel costs. the only benefit this presents is the elimination of moving parts so it is cheap and easy to produce. but then again getting compressed gas requires a device with moving parts that will be more costly and wear out over time.

And on another note there is a method of refrigeration that does not use any moving parts and works on gas(or anything that will burn I guess). Maybe this can also work with a solar mirror array?

I have started large trucks by rolling them as well but as for pushing them anywhere well thats not going to happen (I have managed once to push a smaller truck that weighed about 18000 lbs but only a few feet on level ground). Automatic transmissions are a bitch to roll start because you have to get the vehicle up to the torque converters lockup speed before the engine will begin to turn.
