    1) They can only spread it so far, admitedly with the going price of gold on IGE (well known gold sellers) it looks like they need to sell 100 GP a month to support between 2 and 5 accounts ($30-$80 for 100gp looks like a going rate), pluss the set up fee for the CD Keys for each acocunt. Also remember that I said account, not player. People do not transfer GP via mail to random other accoutns that often, and they would have to have a larger then normal amount of these transfers.

    2) They DO keep chat logs, how else do you think they check reports of harrasment?

    3) I havn't seen this spam filter, but I have been outta the game for a month :P

    4) Most of those people were probably cheating (Fishbot, glider, etc), not gold sellers. If they banned that many gold sellers/farmers I would expect to see Gp selling for alot more then $30 on a medium pop server (frostmane, where I used to play).

And there is the other note:

For a large number of us the concept of putting a man on the moon (let alone in space) is practicaly pedestrian, as opposed to in the 60s when it was a truely amazing (and NEW) thing.

I grew up with the knowledge that space flight, and going to the moon were things we have done, and we did them a LONG (to a 7yr old) time ago.

I for one still am interested in what we are doing in space (I am 23, just for ref), however it isn't the type of thing that it was when we first started.

Now most of us are more interested in what is happening at home (Earth), and understandign that better.

I kinda doubt that they would need to do anything like that (and I hope they do not as it would create a large number of false posatives).

If they wanted to rid themselfs of gold sellers I bet they could. The way(s) I would go about it are:
    1) Watch accounts that tend to transfer gold around alot (specificly where they tend to transfer to large numbers of people, and rarely, if ever, recieve items back).
    2) Pull chat logs on these watched accounts.
    3) Create a search that will find common strings related to the sellign of gold.
    4) Start dropping the banhammer.

Now, why don't they do this? To many of their customers like the ability to just buy gold, and they really would tick of a very large user base (as well as lose the profit from the large numbers of accounts that the farmers have). It just isn't proffitable for them to ban em.

People will ofcourse bring up the peopel that quit over thigns they don't like in a game, the only problem there is that there is no OBVIOUS direct effect of farmers, the only thing you are likely to see are inflated prices of items in the AH, as opposed to cheats that let you do blatently wrong things.

(note everything in here is my oppinion and is obviously subject to exeptions)

The keys to a licensed RPG being worth anythign are these:

    1) Starting with a large, well developed, world (universe in this case, I know nothing about BSG as I havn't watched TV in years, so I can't comment).

    2) Fleshing out stats and mechanics that will make the gameplay (be it combat, interaction, space flight, technology, etc) FIT with the feel of the original.

    3) The ability to remove your players from the main story line.

    4) The ability to create adventures in the world, that feel like they came form the show, with out destroyign canon.

    5) A clearly defined time/space that your game takes place in (Is this pre/post *** important event? Will the PCs know about said event?)

3&4 are a mix between the DM's skill and how the sourcebooks are put together.

3 is obvoiusly where most poeple will have issues also, everyone wants to be PART of the story, but that is next to impossible in most cases, especialy as the people who are likely to be playing these games are fans of the show, and thus all have differing oppinions on just WHAT is correct, what should/should not happen, etc etc. It is alot easier to ignore canon in a game like Shadowrun or DnD as most people are not THAT fammiliar with the specifics of the world.

An exelent example of this is looking through the StarWars books/RPGs/video games (I am ignoring the games that are just clones of the movies in this case).
They stick to how the world works. They tend to stay away from the main plots, or focus on the effects of the main plot with out trying to mess with them. Even when they come up with new creatures/races, they fit in with the SW universe.
