I don't get what the fuss is about... Japanese sites look perfectly clean to me. For example: http://apple.co.jp/

Speaking of other notable Anime, you guys all have heard of Appleseed right? By God, if you haven't git yer butt over to the trailer and check it out. Can anyone who reads Japanses tell me where they are sitting with this movie? This seems like it might be the be all, end all of anime movies.

Like Appleseed?

There are several projects like this in the works, it's not too hard to find them. In The Animatrix, for example, MANY of the episodes that look hand-drawn (2nd Renaissance Parts 1 & 2) have a large number of CG shots. The most common software used by Japanese FX, animation, and game studios is Softimage|XSI.

I'm pretty sure appleseed is already out in theatres in japan. We're just waiting for it to get released on DVD so it can be fansubbed. Of course, it would be really nice of em to release the jp DVD with an english subtitle track so people could buy the original.

I can't wait for the first CG/Anime crossover

Uhh, there have already been some. The first one I've been looking for (Appleseed) is coming out in Japan soon, and it looks quite badass. I've heard of a few crossovers before now, but can't think of any off the top of my head.

Apple's PowerBook 1400 did it already with the BookCover. There's a removable clear plastic cover (they also included one of grey plastic in case you didn't like the idea) that slides off the top part of the laptop, and underneath you can put any appropriately shaped piece of paper. It even came with templates pre-installed on the hard drive so you could design something to place there. Was kind of a cool idea, but it didn't really take off, as one can easily see.

Your first thought was a good one.
Get her the 15 inch Powerbook G4.
While certain features of OSX (such as the movie listings) don't work properly in .jp, Apple has done a GREAT job in preparing the system.
The Japanese support in OSX is top-knotch, and there is a lot of BSD support for Japanese.

The machine is strong, and gets great battery life. And, I must admit, Apple's Technical Support and customer care is Top of the line.
I had had a number of problems with my laptop due to physical manafacturing, and after working with Apple, and describing the problem, they not only replaced it, but gave me a faster model as an apology.

I cannot recomend Apple laptops enough.

I haven't tried the Hebrew Language Kit for MacOS personally, but I have coworkers who have used the Chinese Language Kit and been happy. Best page I could find about Hebrew Language Kit is on the Apple Japan site (don't know why it's not on Apple.com).
