Re:Working on actual improvements
If you want to have the year of the Linux desktop having an installer that doesn't automatically turn off 99.9+% of users is probably a good idea.
.... The more popular Linux gets the more it transforms into Windows.
....It doesn't look like M$ is going to have the "Year of Win10" anytime soon,
https://bit.ly/2I2n6F2
because Win10, launched 2 years ago, is still 8% behind Win7, which was launched 9 years ago, and it's not trending up except in M$'s PR blurbs. The installer on most Linux distros are similar to each other and to Windows, except that Linux users have to reboot only once per install, and that is to start up the system.
My first experience with a graphical Linux desktop which was equal to or better than WinXP was KDE 1.0 Beta on SuSE 5.3 in September of 1998. I've used KDE every since. For the last three years I have been running KDE Neon User Edition, which uses KDE Plasma-desktop 5.12.5, on top of my favorite filesystem, Btrfs. Plasma's beauty, speed, power and flexibility leaves all versions of WinX in the dust, and I've programmed in all of them except Win10. Plasma is even more beautiful than VISTA was, and considerably faster and more reliable. Btrfs is equally awesome.

Re: Truly sad...
Re: "Piers Corbyn does not make the kind of predictions you claim. You're putting forth something he has not done as factual."
Corbyn is an astrophysicist who makes his money by making long-range forecasts about extreme weather events -- predictions which are then literally purchased by the people who need to know this information in the regions in which he currently covers. He literally sells predictions for a living, and people continue to buy them for the very reason that they are accurate. From his website:
WeatherAction will develop and extend Piers Corbyn's revolutionary world-leading Solar based method* of Long Range forecasting to include all countries of the world months and years ahead particularly for extreme and dangerous events. The background physics principles behind the method are available in presentations** and will be published in full in due course.

Yes, back when we had all that acid rain we really should have just learned to live with it and all the environmental damage it caused, rather than adapting our industry to curtail the pollution which caused it. Seriously you're as bad as "the solution to pollution is dilution".

Re:The world is not a static system
Yes, the climate is a coupled non-linear chaotic system. Nonetheless dwindling solar output will have a net negative forcing on global temperatures. It really can't explain recent warming and will have actually acted to reduce observed warming.
Which part of your statement is the Observation and which part is the Concept? Mark Shepard on Restoration Agriculture - Observation vs Concept @RestorationAgD http://bit.ly/1lM3PFS
-
Re:The world is not a static system
Solar output has been falling over the last several decades. There is no coloration between solar output and rise in greenhouse gasses. Dwindling solar output has been driving global temperatures down. That means something else is responsible not only for driving temperatures up, but also for compensating for the drop in solar output.
You're not familiar with nonlinear, coupled systems, are you? Mark Shepard on Restoration Agriculture - Observation vs Concept @RestorationAgD http://bit.ly/1lM3PFS

Re: The world is not a static system
If there is only one variable that affects the Earth's climate, it would be the output of the Sun. If there was a second variable, it would be the kinematics of the Earth about the Sun. Neither one should be considered constant, and the former is certainly not easily modeled. Alas, there's much more than just two variables that affects the climate.
The goal should not be to predict or control climate, but to adapt to it as Nature does.
Mark Shepard on Restoration Agriculture - "Ecology... Nature is only model we have that has survived climate change with sheer, total, utter neglect..." @RestorationAgD http://bit.ly/1ohVqpE
Did you know that without any greenhouse gases in the atmosphere the average surface temperature would be about 0 degrees F? Instead, even before we started adding CO2 there were enough greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to make the average surface temperature about 58 degrees F. Ignoring long term slowly changing things like Milankovitch cycles that's probably the 2nd biggest factor in the temperature on the Earth after the sun. And the sun's not changing enough to have the effects we're seeing.

As I said above you need a way to test if this is happening to your traffic if Your ISP slows your traffic to a particular source you need a way to compare
but you have to have at least two connections to compare the traffic... a study that was funded by a USA national science award does exactly this :you simply download a app and run it

Re:Mark Shepard on Restoration Agriculture
"Ecology... Nature is only model we have that has survived climate change with shear, total, utter, neglect..." @RestorationAgD http://bit.ly/1ohVqpE
Certainly, but the results can at times not be very conducive for the species causing the changes. For instance today we have the popular hypothesis put forward by the crowd that claims exponentially increasing CO2 will quickly do in geologic time to the permafrost of the Northern Hemisphere is a wonderful outcome of climate change. Whether or not this rapid change can very quickly be turned into habitable and arable land is highly dubious.
This crowd thinks nothing of buying a Dodge Ram Diesel and chipping it, in fact they claim that their actions will help create enough farm land in Canada, Alaska and Putin's gulag labour camp areas to feed much more than the current population of the Earth. Even though the lands around the equator will become uninhabitable and the Saudis will all need to move north into Russia where farm land will be cheap. Forget the other Arab populations they will either die in the new deserts or join with the Saudis in buying up cheap farm land in either Alaska, the Canadian territories or the really cheap stuff in Siberia.
So just think of it this way, every time you put the peddle to the metal and beat the sucker beside you to the next light you are in fact creating new farm land for your children. Just remember to vote correctly in November and you will help create a bright future by electing only the people who advocate abolishing public transportation funding and putting more money into using coal slag for new and improved cheap road pavement so that people can drive anywhere and everywhere.

Re:Is this a test?
GPD Win. It comes with Windows 10 but I installed Arch Linux on it and it works perfectly fine. There's no Windows tax because screens small enough make Windows 10 starter free. Comes with gaming controls which work pretty well as a mouse actually, but you can switch it to a normal dinput joystick and Xbox360 input controller on the fly with the little dial and a touchscreen. The sequel GPD Win 2 isn't out yet but has more RAM, 8GB versus 4GB.
There's also the GPD Pocket which is similar but with a much bigger and nicer keyboard and no gaming controls, and a little nub for a mouse with touchscreen.

Re:The cynic in me asks
Did they do it all on purpose for some twisted marketing reason, from slowing it down, to leaking the problem, the X is not selling well. I was at my carrier's store getting a new phone today (not an apple) and asked about the X. The manager said they had 20 in stock and they were not moving. Worse for them, they own it, can't discount it and can't return unsold inventory back to apple. There could be some very unhappy carriers if the get stuck with a bunch of X's. Could this battery getting headlines actually help sales of the X in some weird way?

Re:Who needs hacking and propganda?
Media shows why it's so mistrusted after falsified Trump fish-feeding 'story'. Here are several credible mainstream media outlets and Jezebel reporting the story.
Bloomberg's White House reporter: Trump and Abe spooning fish food into a pond. (Toward the end, @potus decided to just dump the whole box in for the fish)
New York Magazine: Trump Under Fire for Improper Fish-Feeding Technique
Jezebel: Big stupid baby dumps a load of fish food on Japanese koi pond http://bit.ly/2zAyCD6
CNBC's Christina Wilkie (in a now-deleted tweet): "Trump and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe were scheduled to feed koi spoonfuls of food. Until Trump poured his entire box of fish food into the pond."
New York Daily News: Photo of Donald Trump dumping fish food into koi pond during Japan visit draws Obama comparisons
The Guardian: "White House reporters, keen perhaps to pick up on a Trump gaffe, captured the moment when he upended his box on their smartphones and tweeted evidence of his questionable grasp of fish keeping. Some speculated that a poor palace employee would be dispatched to the scene to clean up the mess as soon as the two leaders disappeared inside."
CNN: Trump feeds fish, winds up pouring entire box of food into koi pond
The media was not only blatantly overt, but intentional in its deception. The greatest danger to our nation comes from a free press that chooses sides in the political process. And that has openly and unapologetically taken place.

Re:Extension of an existing lawAmber Rudd says she wants a law that allows people to visit a website once. The Guardian article says that the links would need to be clicked more than once for the offence to be committed. According to the Home Office:
the updated offence will ensure that only those found to repeatedly view online terrorist material will be guilty of the offence, to safeguard those who click on a link by mistake or who could argue that they did so out of curiosity rather than with criminal intent.
Here's a website that would be illegal to visit more than once under Amber Rudd's proposal. It shows how to make a Frag Grenade using materials from airport terminals.
Here are some other links you might also want to click on.

Re:At what Experience Level?
Keywords "government job". Civil Service jobs are HARD to get fired from.
I'm a contractor at my government IT job. Contractors can get fired quite easily. One contractor got fired for not disclosing on his background check that he had a murder charge. Several contractors were surprised to learn that they were expected to work and found themselves back on the unemployment line.
If those contractors were expected to work, it means someone else expected them to work. How could they be, as you say, "back on the unemployment line" then if someone is expecting them to work?

Re:SHARE ALL YOUR DATA WITH EVERYONE
You're really not important enough for that.
Except that I was falsely accused of threatening to shoot people, fake accounts got deleted for mocking me, and dick pics with my contact info got posted on Russian websites. The douche bags on Slashdot found me important enough to waste their time. Some of this I've documented on my blog, the rest I'm saving for an essay that I'll publish next year.

Check out my blog post, The Blackmail of David Letterman.
And if you're that open, why did you get so upset a month ago because people found out "personal" information you ejaculate everywhere given any provocation?
I was unaware that third-party websites had republished my personal information from public documents. I was under the impression that douche bags were going out of their way to find public documents at government websites.
So you won't mind if I post your phone number here?
If you want to be a douche bag, be my guest.

Being the proverbial fat boy on the short bus (a.k.a, fat retard), I'm used to negative reactions and being laughed at.
At what point can it become possible in your mind that you're a bad writer?
Never. Being a writer means you have to continuously improve yourself. What you write today won't be as good as something you write ten years from now.
