Looks like some anime
I couldn't find Cowboy Bebop screenshots of the episode Bohemian Rhapsody, but this looks just too similar
:) Even the helmet with colors and all.. -
Loch Ness MonsterThey came once and asked for $900, and I said, 'Well, 900 dollars, that's ridiculous,' and sent them $500 and they accepted it.
Reminds me of the Loch Ness Monster bit from South Park, where the story is told of how the Loch Ness Monster tried to hit up Chef's parents for $3.50.
Chef's Mom : I gave him a dollar.
Chef's Dad : She gave him a dollar.
Chef's Mom : I thought he'd go away if I gave him a dollar.
Chef's Dad : Well of course he's not going to go away, Nellie. If you give him a dollar, he's gonna assume you got more.

Re:Actually, this is good news
Actually, I'm not too sure if this should be considered good news. After all, they will be replaced by other journalists who may or may not yield to the authority.
In any case, in Anna Politkovskaya's words, "...the duty of for doctors(sic) is to give health to their patients, the duty of the singer to sing, the duty of the journalist to write what this journalist sees in reality. It's only one duty."

Re:Overrated
Actually, most of the sources I've read agree that the nude content was shipped with the game, and unlocked pretty much the same as hot coffee. Here's a couple:

http://www.oblivionsource.com/?page=modforge&op=vi ewproject&project_id=191

Do you have a source that says it did not ship with the game? -
Re:In other news...
Those kids don't magically disappear when they turn 18 - they internalize it - then they grow up and act on it. Rmember, the US, which is the source of most of the drek, has the highest proportion of murders of any country in the world, and the highest proportion of people in jail, and the highest proportion of people under various legal orders.
However, the murder rate, and violence in general, have dropped steadily as violent movies and other entertainments (e.g. videogames) have become more popular. It has dropped in all age groups, but fastest for the younger demographic who are the biggest consumers of such entertainments. So perhaps we need more violence on TV, not less. -
Bust a Move
That video of color bubbles along with the music really makes me think of the game Bust a Move. If you played it, you know what I'm talking about.

...it's already here!
What's next? America's War on Violence.
Isn't that what we've been hearing for years though anyway? It seems like the government in particular, and to an extent, the greater U.S. culture is progressively getting more focused on violence. Which is troublesome, especially since youth violence is decreasing. -
Let's not gloat just yet...
To quote the shirt, "I HATE Jack Thompson" as much as anyone, but keep in mind that an investigation alone won't get him disbarred. I'd love to have that kind of P.R. weapon on the side of the games industry, but premature gloating isn't going to win any hearts on the Florida bar. In fact, it may have the opposite effect.
A better strategy would be to send correspondence to the bar alerting them to other infractions Jack has made besides those against Penny Arcade. For instance, his use of these same tactics on Lou Kerner of Bolt Media is my personal favorite.
Or you could cite his threats against the author of VGCats.
Or even the latest vague legal threats against Dave Walsh of the National Institute on Media and the Family.
One of these can be overlooked, but if the Bar knows about all of these, perhaps Jack will be out of the game for good. -
Re:Fascinating, but who hears it?
EA CAN'T STOP THEM. If EA decides to get all legally hardass about games mods, people will just take an extra three seconds to put out their releases anonymously. If EA removes mod support from the game altogether, it will just be modded more creatively. This isn't about EA or nipples at all though. It's about the core nature of technology, software, and the distribution of information when the internet is involved. Good or bad, it just honestly can't be stopped.
Adobe and Microsoft, who have experience combating piracy for 20+ years (around 7 years for piracy that is often enabled by cracks -- or mods, if you will), and they still can't prevent people from circumventing their new fancy online validation tools. What do you expect EA to do? Not put out the game ever? Sue the modders?
I know, let's pass a law requiring the destruction of all media-related electronics. That's the ONLY thing that will ever eliminate the possibility of harmful content reaching children. Jack Thompson's reasoning would absolutely require him to sue every media and electronic company on the face of the Earth. He himself has said he is only one man, so he stays focused on one thing. But you know what? If he really had a clue of any sort, there would be 10,000 other lawyers following in his footsteps. Last time I checked (ohhh, just about a minute ago), there is zero behind him. Maybe he is the only saint left among all of us crazy people. -
Re:He is actually crazy
After reading some of his complaints like DoD Approves Sale of US Military Training on Open Market or his letter to Senators Lieberman and Clinton here I think you agree that his passing a pychiatric testing may say more about the competency of the examiner than it does about Thompson.

Re:Fascinating, but who hears it?
Jack does come off as an extremely rational person. My thoughts after first hearing the interview were exactly along the lines as yours. I was expecting, particulary with the "disclaimer" at the beginning of the interview, for Jack to be a screaming evangelical lunatic, and that of course is not the case at all.
He is a lawyer though, and he knew what audience he was talking to. I actually had a very good conversation with Alon, who hosted this interview with Jack, and he agreed that the point of the interview was to show that Jack isn't as maniacal as the gaming media and opinioners make him to be, but if you look at how he behaves outside of the spotlight, examples found here, here, and here, you can begin to gather that this guy is not a good person by any standard -- and that is removing all personal opinion as a gamer and looking at him purely as a human being.
I contacted Alon to defend Jack in a roundabout way, as his points about keeping violent media away from children's hands is very valid. I think we all agree with Jack on that. It is the basis of his reasoning for all of his actions -- profiting -- and his own conduct, that are Grade A wacko. -
Re:But he'd make a GREAT politician...
Love the sig, and thought you might appreciate this linked article.
Kid's Violence Levels -
Thompson on Buddy Icons, Janet Reno, Rap
If this guy wants to play with fire, I suggest somebody put up a site to publish all of Jack's threats and verbal abuse (plus nonsense) and see if he gets institutionalized.
Hit this site to read about him calling Janet Reno a lesbian, trying to ban a 2 Live Crew album, attempting to get the creator of an anti-Thompson buddy icon arrested after the creator took the icon offline, and other fun stuff.
Does anyone else find it ironic that such an outspoken opponent of violence in the media is so vicious in real life? -
Re:I want one
Oh, but not for granny to carry her groceries. I want one so I can carry this.
What you really need is one of these. -
Re:Finally, Google expands into animalsNot funny! 5 years ago, when "Intelligent Agents" were all the rage, lots of people were envisioning little animated creatures on your computer screens that would "fetch" information for you. (Naturally a AT&T commercial featured an talking dog.) The reality never progressed beyond lame little projects like that company (its name escapes me) that soaked up huge amounts of venture capital, and whose only real product was a particularly limited PDA. And of course, there's Microsoft's agent technology, which is known mainly for its irritating avatars such as clippy and Bob.
I now view all pseudo-biological software with extreme suspicion. Especially after playing with Seaman

Guess what? Games press did some research...
...And youth violence has been on a steady and significant decline since about 1997. Around when the PlayStation 1 launched, coincidentally.
Check it out here.
Of course, you can use statistics to say anything you want... unless the figures are as obvious as they are here. Difficult to tweak for that daily anti-GTA propaganda : / -

Re:Their lives are too stressful to pay attention!
Google is your friend, but I found this one interesting.
Game Revolution
It's simple and very readable, and points out that violent crime because of kids has been dropping. Enough that 1985-2000 looks like an anomoly.
There's even a PBS article
Result: Violent games don't really lead to more crime. -
The truth about violent youth and video games
I ran across this story yesterday and it neatly summarizes some statistics about the violent crime rate in correlation with some big moments in video game history, such as the release of PSX and the GTA games. The "Truth"

Re:Somebody explain this to me
This trick works best in the Red Light District. Get any car, except for a police car, FBI car, Ambulance, Fire Truck or Taxi, and pull alongside the sidewalk next to a girl wearing a brown outfit. She will walk over to the car and begin bending over, like she's talking to you. A few seconds later she will get in the car. Drive to a secluded area (or your hideout) and stop the car. Be quick about it, because your money will drain for the amount of time she's in the car.
Once the car is stopped, it will begin rocking. It'll rock slow, then it'll get faster. Your health is replenishing, but your money is depleting. Using the hooker, you can get your health up to a maximum of 125. When you reach the maximum health, she'll get out of the car.
Now, if your feeling particularly cold-blooded, you can get out of the car, chase after the hooker, beat her, and take your money back. Gotta love this game. This is an excerpt from a walthrough. The walkthrough, in its entirety, can be found here. If it doesn't work, I'm not the only one who played the game and thought that's what my cash level increase meant.

Re:Everything I've heard...
What does "best of" even mean for a show where most of the stuff isn't real? Do they have a "Probably Best Game of 2007" award?
Don't forget Valve's Team Fortress 2 won Best Action Game at E3 - in 1999!
Okay, so there was probably more actual game there than with some of this year's E3 'demos', but still there doesn't appear to be much correlation between year of award and year of release.
Has a certain Mr. Nukem won any trade awards for his forthcoming release yet? -
Re:Linux on a DS?
I'm still waiting for the gPod. That's what I call a sexy handheld.

Britany appears under camel toe
Yeah, but if you take out the 'kelly ripa' and just search under 'camel toe' you do get some hits. The eerie thing is that Britney Spears somehow manages to make it into the first page of these search results too!
Though, as if to prove your original point, adding 'britney' to that search also gets no results.
P.S. You'll almost certainly like cameltoe.bolt.com -
Re:Weird priorities
You mean like this? No. Please god no. I think it's widely acknowledged that this is much better.
And of course they can't make it an 1/8" bigger, then it might look like this!
FWIW, I have an XBox and it's good at what it does, but that initial controller design was hideous. Despite what test audiences may say.
