13x less likely to be stolen than avg car because
Teslas are 13x less likely to be stolen than an average car according to Teslas are hard to steal.
The reasons are multifold. Starting the car and driving it off is the easy part. The few Teslas stolen to date have been largely due to what might be considered extreme negligence on the owners part - like leaving the doors open and the fob inside.
But is that negligence? The car is totally connected and obscenely trackable. Getting away with stealing a Tesla would mean disconnecting it forever and thus losing a lot of its value. For example, you could never get a free recharge. I wonder how many of those few cars stolen have been recovered. I'd bet the number is high.
So, you steal it for parts? Wrong! There is virtually no used parts market. Tesla owners tend to buy their parts new.
It seems that the best you could hope for is likely a very quick joyride.
My question is "why this article now"? It is very sensationalist. I'm not questioning the efforts of those who found and reported the attack route. But why widely disseminate it to the general public without noting that Teslas are amongst the least likely to be stolen cars in the world. Is this an attack piece?

"By the way, this is how you "cite" sources. Not some vague reference to something from yesteryear."
A: Was posting from my phone. My reference was more than adequate for my post.
B: Article was easily found as it's the most active post since the election and was less than 24 hours ago and was bumped up to the top at least once
C: Yesterday is not "yesteryear" It's still on the front page of slashdot!Slashdot article I cited that is STILL on the front page: https://politics.slashdot.org/...

Re:Unsurprised
Our school system is really only designed to enable rote memorization:
... Memorize your multiplication tables.I don't think that's true. Twenty years ago kids were taught to do long multiplication, long division etc. as a straightforward set of rote instructions that they had to memorize and apply blindly.
More recently as part of "new maths" they're told to solve these problems differently -- with techniques that are no longer the rote application of instructions, but instead require creativity and understanding of what the numbers represent. http://www.nbcwashington.com/n...
I'm in two minds about this. As a computer scientist, I loved that kids were learning ALGORITHMs, and they're missing out on that now. But as someone who cares about maths, I'm happy that they're understanding numbers better. (even if it leaves their less mentally agile parents dismayed, like in the above link).
Well yeah, there are steps to do math and established ways to work it out from start to finish, follow the steps and you'll get the correct answer. This new math is mindboggling how difficult they want to make something that's relatively simple, the best part of it is that you have to do math before you start doing the math. Take that example you posted, where is the math showing how the split the second number into smaller numbers in order to be able to add them back up again instead of just adding the two numbers? Are saying kids can't add more than 10 to something yet they can easily divide ane subtract in their heads. What about the bit that says 3+3+3+3+3 isnt the same as 5+5+5 when doing 3x5? http://uk.businessinsider.com/...

Re:This is a good thing
No, I'm saying they helkd a god damn press release in which they stated they inted to both keep their headquarters located in Helsinki and keep paying both theior personal taxes and corporate taxes here because they want to support the society without which they wouldn't have had the chance to become so successful
"We've received a lot of help from society, and now it is our turn to give something back," Paananen said, writes Helsingin Sanomat.
And again, please explain how your model intends to account for the disappearance of jobs en mass due to automation. Because people will need higher education in the future even more than they do today but it will not guarantee them employment.
So are you really saying that the 98 % of society that isn't extremely wealthy just has to first take massive debt to even be able to compete in the for the few jobs that will remain, and the rest that do not get either employment or education - ie. probably over half the population in 3-4 decades) will have to just hope for donations from the elite class or die?
What? If you take any form of income away from that amount of people,m do you understand what that will do the corporations when they'll lose a significant chunk of consumers, let alone for societal stability overall etc...

Re:Not in the original announcementReplying to my own post... Here's a Business Insider report with a more complete quote.
http://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tesla-solar-roof-cost-less-than-normal-roof-2016-11
"It's looking quite promising that a solar roof will actually cost less than a normal roof before you even take the value of electricity into account," he said. "So the basic proposition would be, 'Would you like a roof that looks better than a normal roof, lasts twice as long, costs less, and by the way generates electricity?' It's like, why would you get anything else?" Musk added that the price he was speaking to factored in the cost of labor.
And another from a fan page.
http://www.teslarati.com/tesla-solar-roof-cost-less-than-traditional/
Musk said the key to this surprise announcement is that the roofing materials supply chain as it exists today is incredibly inefficient. He said the glass solar roof tiles Tesla will sell are up to 80% lighter in weight than ceramic or concrete roofing materials. They are also much less fragile. The result is that transportation and breakage costs are greatly reduced, which is a big factor in keeping costs down. The other factor, as Musk said during the Solar Roof reveal last month, is that glass is mostly sand and sand is cheap.

Re:Mainstream media DOES invent news (FTFY)
All major news outlets are too close to the political parties. You want to know who is to blame for that? The NEWS OUTLETS. (FTFY)
You, you didn't fix that for me. The parties created the pay-for-play system, and the media companies are all too happy to play along. They love those sweet debate dollars. And Fox News is not immune, they are also part of this system. This system was created by the 2 major parties, the networks just went along with it.
The reality is that for about 30 years, the MSM has been in the tank for the progressive left.
Yes, reality has a liberal bias and all that.
in the case of Fox news, their formula is quite simple, they have guests on from both positions, and their commentators provide relevant history, background, and challenge both positions with facts.
This is misleading though, it is not balanced. It still serves their own bias. When they have a discussion about whether or not global warming is caused by human activity, and they have one guy who agrees, and one who disagrees, that is not balanced. It would be much more accurate if they have that discussion and they have the guy who disagrees and 49 scientists who agree, that would more closely resemble the state of the debate. When they claim that it's a split issue they're not doing a service to anyone, and they're showing their own bias. That's the fallacy of their model, presenting issues like that in a 50/50 light when they are not.
why they are the most trusted news network in the US
It's not such a ringing endorsement to say that Fox is the network that is the most trusted by people who will believe anything that fits their bias. The reason their ratings are so much higher than other stations is because they are the only one who has a strongly conservative bias, so if that fits your view and that's the particular echo chamber you want to watch, you only have 1 option. If you prefer a different bias there are several other options which split the vote.
Keep in mind that this entire story is how the election discourse was affected by conservatives or right-wingers believing fake news. They're the ones who were roped into believing this stuff. I'm not saying they're the only ones with that problem though, maybe over the next 4 years it will be more profitable to create fake stories to anger liberals and then you'll see it go the other way, but for now the story is right-wingers believing anything they read without question. So, yeah, Fox may be the most trusted network but consider the critical thinking skills of their audience.
The news they put out is more accurate than most of the other MSM outlets
Do you have any source for that claim, considering the whole thing how we're talking about fact checking and accurate reporting? Or did you just say that because it feels right? Here's a summary from 2014 giving the least false rating to CNN, over half of Fox's claims were false. Here it is from 2015, with the same results. Here are the current ratings for Fox and CNN. If you have other sources which support your claim, feel free to show them. In the past I've consistently seen NPR as the most factual (not included in the above, which is for cable news). BBC and WSJ are also well-trusted. As for Rush Limbaugh, he's trust just slightly more than Buzzfeed.
If you want to cite some other study or numbers which show that Fox is more accurate, feel free. If yo

NOT a port of VisualStudio
Note that this is not a port of Microsoft's Visual Studio to the Mac. All they did was buy Xamarin Studio a few months back and slap their nameplate on it. They are completely different products with different codebases, and look to remain that way.
From a technical standpoint, there's not really much reason to be exited about this, unless you were already a Xamarin fan, and want to see it better-supported.

This doesn't seem like much of a risk.
Full disk encryption only protects your data.
Full disk encryption doesn't and can't protect the machine from someone who has physical access to your machine. Nothing really can.
If someone has physical access to your machine they could: Install a hardware keylogger like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TUBOKW
Install malicious firmware (replace/extended the system EFI)
Install a malicious bootload (e.g. a hacked GRUB (since grub isn't and can't be protected by the full disk encryption)).
Full disk encryption is good, and should be used, but its users should understand, it only protects your data from theft, if your machine is powered off at the time of theft. If you machine is powered on and the decryption password has already been entered... then, well see this: http://www.businessinsider.com/ross-ulbricht-will-be-sentenced-soon--heres-how-he-was-arrested-2015-5
You machine can only be trusted if no one else has tampered with it.

Which means those right-wing "news" sites were putting out fake stories. What's the problem? An algorithm doesn't determine what party a comment is affiliated with, it only determines the veracity of the comment.
But remember, Zuckerberg laughed about FB having an impact on the election. Because that's totally crazy.
Then again, based on this posting, it appears Zuckerberg was lying about FB being introspective in regards to fake news and the election. -

Re: And to think the DNC wanted to face Trump...
Not working full time is the underemployed stat. I am very sure about these issues with BLS stats. My research professor for my grad degree did work in econometrics and always commented that the BLS unemployment series was manipulated to hell and back.
But what the hell do I know, not like the labor force participation rate is at historic lows... wait a minute, they are. At least, we aren't seeing a downward sloping Labor force participation rate that walks in step with a downward U3 and U6, indicating discouraged unemployment over 12 months. Oh wait... we are. Not like we are seeing increases in food stamp and public housing... oh we are.
I am not the first to notice this problem with unemployment rate.

"folding" included a changed deal
"Folding under the pressure" meant them having to draft a slightly different version of the deal to satisfy Wallonia, at least according to this, after the region rejected the original deal AND an ultimatum from the government.
But after days of intense talks a version of the deal has been produced that satisfies the Wallonian Parliament, headed by socialist leader Paul Magnette. Magnette was concerned by a part of the deal that would allow corporations to sue national governments. "Let's be clear: I'm not a herald of antiglobalization," he told the French publication Liberation. "I want a deal."

Re:"The app was never a revenue driver..."
Unlike Twitter itself, which has been making money
...One of the first steps in protecting yourself from finance weasels is to learn what their words mean. In particular, "revenue" and "profit" are two very different things. For example, Twitter's numbers from last quarter show their revenue from the quarter was over $600 million. Perhaps not Google numbers, but not a lot of companies earn that much in a single quarter. However, their profit was about -$100 million. So of course the sensible thing here would be to get rid of some of the things that are costing more than they are making. If Vine has lots of folks working on it, and isn't in fact pulling in a lot of revenue (raw $), then yes it makes perfect sense for a bean-counter to want to get rid of it.

He was labeled anti-black for reasons I have yet to be able to find.
Donald Trump violated the civil rights act by refusing to rent homes to black people.

"I've got black accountants at Trump Castle and Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day⦠. I think the guy is lazy. And it's probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It's not anything they can control."

AdBlock = inferior + 'souled-out' vs. hosts
Adblock can't do (or do as well) 16 things hosts do 4 speed, security & reliability:
1.) Protect vs. bad sites (past ads)
2.) Protect vs. fastflux botnet C&C servers
3.) Protect vs. dynamic dns botnet C&C servers
4.) Protect vs. DGA botnet C&C servers
5.) Protect vs. downed DNS (reliability)
6.) Protect vs. DNS redirect poisoned/downed dns
7.) Protect vs. trackers
8.) Protect vs. spam payloads
9.) Protect vs. phish payloads
10.) Protect vs. caps
11.) Get past dns blocks
12.) Keep off dns request logs
13.) Speed up 2 ways (adblocks & hardcodes)
14.) Work on anything webbound multiplatform.
15.) Ez data edit
16.) Block ads more efficiently in cpu/ram/I-O useAPK
P.S.=> Ab+ does less vs. hosts less efficiently (a 128-151mb memory hog http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-conte...)
ClarityRay defeats it
Ab+'s bribed not to work by default http://www.businessinsider.com...
AdBlock's SLOWER: http://superuser.com/questions...

Re:Address the issues
Both candidates have specific, well-laid-out proposals which anyone can find.
Yes, except Trump's proposals are all to women he's trying to feel up.
Do you know Trump's well-laid-out plan for international trade? Do you know his well-though-out plan for dealing with the deficit? Can you name a single bit of legislation that Trump said he would push besides term limits? The policy papers on his website read like one of those sample Powerpoint presentations written in Latin. And all he has to say for himself is that whatever he's going to do, it'll be, "tremendous". Since I've had four years of high school Latin, I happen to know the root of the word, "tremendous" and let me tell you, it's a disgrace, believe me. Sad!
Trump is a fraud of a fake of a fugazi. If you go to his website, not even that is real. He's got a ticker running across the top showing donations "in real time" and it turns out that it's just a loop that was put up weeks ago and if you look at the code for his site, it's a script that calls an XML file named, "Sample_donations". He's a fucking Potempkin village in a fright wig. He's a creation of the media and not one thing more.

[Note: since the story broke, the Trump campaign has taken down the phony ticker widget.]

Re: OMG that's a dodgy check
Wow you're right, it was at least a couple months instead of few weeks. The Clinton Foundation (founded in 1997 as the William J. Clinton Foundation), has it's charitynavigator.org listing first crawl on Sept 2nd, 2016! Makes one wonder what happened to the other 18 years. The William J. Clinton Foundation is listed separately, the "Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation" isn't listed separately and the Clinton Global Initiative wasn't listed.
Charity Navigator is a leading and respected organization that evaluates and rates charities so donors can make informed decisions about contributions. It was itself a member of the Clinton Global Initiative between 2012 and 2014. Charity watchdog gives Clinton Foundation the highest possible rating
See that's going to set off the conspiracy theorists and it's a good example of what I'm talking about; there are so many entities ready to spasm-out every time somebody yells squirrel; while all of the whacko's are out there jousting with windmills, it's distracting people from issue with substance. It's getting to the point where every time I see a sensational headline stating "This will bury Hillary", I figure she's the one who put it out there to begin with.

Re:Small dick russians
On the topic of Russians, I'm going to assume that this is Putin trying to help his employee Trump win. If Trump can't tweet, he can't keep reminding voters of all the reasons they want to vote against him. And the only way to keep Trump from tweeting is to take out Twitter.
It's mainly affecting the east coast, sure, but also Ohio which Trump needs to win.
Seems like a much more straightforward than using trolling to help him win.
