Re:Does this include terraserver, and more...
I guess I better get what I can before I cant.
Bob Thaves (creator of the 'Frank and Ernest' comic strip) had a bit to say on this issue.

Re:Low-tech
to quote Bucky of Get Fuzzy fame:
"Don't play dumb with me!! I'm the King of Du--- wait, that's not going to come out right." -
Re:Sigh...
It could be worse. He could be charged for murder after using this.

Re:Dilbert has something to say on this very subje
None.
United Media is a Scripps Ventures company, part of the E.W. Scripps empire.
Scripps operates some Newspapers, TV stations, and cable networks, and a well-known spelling bee. They trade under ticker SSP on the NYSE, and no major media companies show up on their major holders list on Yahoo. -
Re:Groupthink in general terms
There are ways to tell people that they are wong without saying, "Hey, Nimrod, your being dumb!".
Y'mean like this? -
Re:I have x start pages

Re:Gosh, it's on a website, it must be true
Martians will teach us how to harness zero point energy thus ending all reliance on foreign oil by 2010
It doesn't matter. The martians will certainly make our bad way of life even worse. -

Slashdot editors have been voted weasiliest journalists for posting the exact e-mails they got, line for line, and forgetting that everyone here is already a member of the DNRC and got the results in their E-Mail.

Re:Opus is Back! Now Bring Back Calvin!!!!
May I recommend Frazz to all Calvin & Hobbes fans? In my opinion, it has similar humor, wisdom and cuteness. It's my current favorite.

Re:STINKY STINKY!!!
If you think that's bad, you should see the state of science-fiction fans! PEEEEEE-U!
Unfortunately, 'fench' (a portmanteau word merging 'fen', the fannish plural of 'fan', and 'stench') has been with us for decades; it's not a recent change.
"Ahh, the heady air of a con." "Euuw. What's that stench?" "Smells like... gamers."

Pay for online comics?
On a similar note, one site (that I know of) was trying to start charging for recieving comics through one's e-mail. It seems that after they realized that no one was going to pay for the comics they can read ON THE SITE, that the plan was modified, to if a person wants to read MORE than one comic through their e-mail. Granted, I'm only interested in getting Dilbert through my e-mail, so I don't know if there have been any other changes. Let's pay for things that should be free!!

Re:I think for the few truly excellent programmers
Why did I think of this Dilbert comic strip when I read your message?
-
UComics Business Model
I am a big fan of online comics, but I have trouble with UComics' site layout. Sites like comics.com have a link above each comic that says "NEXT." So if I want to I can browse through all the comics.
Ucomics, on the other hand only lists their comics in an index. If you want to read several comics, you have to constantly use the back button, or sign up for their My Comics page, and therefore give information to marketers.
This annoyed me so much, in fact, that I made my own comics page on my website, just so I didn't have to put up with this.
However, I probably will sign up with UComics. There is no way I will miss one of my favorite comics of all time. -
Re:Google Hackers
For any Dilbert fans who don't know the comics are online try here. That page has today's comic and links to the last month of Dilbert too.

Pessimistic technology? Can you configure it to decide if a glass is half full or half empty? I'd say the pessimist glasses from Despair.com already provide a clear enough indication.
Or see the recent 9 Chickweed Lane takes on the question (starting around the beginning of March).

Battery Life
As another user pointed out earlier the battery life of 2.8 ~ 3.5 hours is surprisingly unimpressive.
Aside from that I've decided it might be nice to have a little wireless web pad for when i just wanna cruise through the web sites I check out every day. (slashdot, UserFriendly, dilbert, Get Fuzzy, and Dozings.com.) As a replacement for a laptop or pda it wouldn't cut the mustard, but if I had the money something like this (but with more battery life) might be a nice little addition to my bag of electronic gizmos.

What bothers me...
...is the constant chime of the news media that "the US is preparing their military strike against terrorism" (translated quote from German radio news, just minutes ago).
The US is acting like a big, very angered 900 pound gorilla, screaming out "whoever did that, come out and show yourself so that I can beat you up!" Yet, nobody showed up so far. And the investigation has shown quite a few false leads so far, including publishing a list with suspected kamikaze terrorists who are still alive and just happen to have had their passports stolen...
Of course, something must be done. But who is the enemy, really? Bush promised that he would give proof in his (hollywood-taylored *) speech, he didn't. I still don't know who the US and their allies are going to fight and how troops in Afghanistan will help fighting terrorism.
Everybody agrees that "terrorism" is a bad thing and that we should fight it. But isn't it just a catchphrase to drum up the support for this military campaign? (Oh, sorry, it's "America's new war", of course, as trademarked and repeated again and again by CNN.)
So far, a military campaign against the state of Afghanistan is still on a shaky ground. "Bomb these bastards to oblivion," says the general public, but I can't help that I feel bad about it. -

Why?(I hope you were being cynical)
Just because the big networks would "go away", doesn't mean that the Web has to...
Do you trust Slashdot? Its not a "major" network, it has a tiny staff that does a small amount of field reporting compared to the networks, and 95% of its news is delivered from untested sources. And yet we trust it because they've developed a reputation of having reliable news.
So, we lose WB, CNN, and (MS)NBC, BMG and Columbia House. But if there's one thing that the Internet (should have) taught us, its that distributed sources can work just as well as a few monopolistic ones. Buy your music from smaller labels! Watch more independant films, or anime, or whatver. MTV wont be shoveling "hipness" at us, but then again, who put them in the position to tell us whats cool or not? The world will go on, as it has before.
Hmm... why does this sound like an excerpt from an Obviousman comic?
