Event
I assume they will have a big show with a live presentation from the Dead Alewives (mp3).

Re:Knoppix
Hmmm... what to think of a post scored as +3 Funny that simply summarizes a bit by the Dead Alewives without giving credit where credit is due?
Funny. Sad. Whatever. Listen to the original routine should you be so inclined.

Re:ROTK BAD.
Yes, this was meant completely in jest. It's actually a lift from a quite humorous D&D skit by a group called the Dead Alewives. You can give it a listen at the Funny Stuff section of their site.
(Mental Note: When you're trying to be funny, don't forget to put the obligatory smiley.
:P) -
Re:Credit where credit is due...The Dead Alewives apparently promote p2p downloading of their stuff as they provide it freely from their site, and when I went to purchase their cd I was greeted with this text:
Sorry, We're all out of the CD. Better search through napster to find pirated versions.
The song in Reference is Dungeons & Dragons easilly downloadable from the Dead Alewives website here:

Mod as you see fit. -
Credit where credit is due...
The original audio of this is from the group The Dead Alewives, from my hometown. Look for it on p2p and try to find part 2, one of them brings their girlfriend along.

I cast Magic Missile!

Re:Short Stories
The first thing I thought of when I saw this article was the easter egg from Summoner making a little good-natured fun of D&D.
That's a machinima adaptation of a skit by the Milwaukee-area comedy troupe The Dead Alewives. Slashdotters who don't hate Flash can check out a new adaptation by Cybermoon Studios.
I can't imagine sitting for an hour and a half watching a drama made from Sims footage. It would require VERY good writing, and that is not an easy thing to come by.
Too true, but don't condemn the idea out of hand just because the medium seems unsuitable. One of the greatest works of Japanese drama, the Chushingura (Tale of the 47 Ronin), was written for puppet theater. An early animated feature, Lotte Reiniger's "Adventures of Prince Ahmed" (1926), is told entirely through animated paper cutouts, yet it still holds up quite well as a beautiful artwork. (I know because I just saw it for the first time last week on Turner Classic Movies.) I expect a compelling story can make its impact felt even in machinima. I'd like to try it myself someday.

Dead Alewives
the easter egg from Summoner making a little good-natured fun of D&D
That was the first thing i thought of too, but if you didn't know, the video is summoner, but the original audio is an old sketch by The Dead Alewives. Theres a part two to that, you can probably find it on p2p, one of them brings a girl along, hilarity ensues.

Re:Okay, really now
Actually, the Dead Alewives did a parody of just this. It was featured in CaptainImmy's Pointless Audio internet radio show some five or six years ago. The first time I heard it I laughed so hard I sprayed soda all over my computer and had to replace the keyboard. Anyways, it's still available on their web site as an MP3 if anyone is interested: Enjoy! [The_Dead_Alewives]-[Dungeons_and_Dragons].mp3

Re:D&D is EVIL!!!
There really is only one response for a rant such as the above (whether it was meant to be serious or not is completely irrelevant):
"Roll the dice to see if I'm getting drunk." ...
"You're not there, you're getting drunk!"
"Okay, but if they're any girls there, I wanna DO them!"
Taken from "Dungeons & Dragons" by The Dead Alewives.
Here for more on the band, here for the sketch.
Listen. Enjoy. Stop the ranting. :) -

Re:A little let down
Some of you have most likely seen the summoner geeks movie, which uses audio from the dead alewives. But watching characters froma roleplaying game sitting around playing a roleplaying game is really funny.

Re:Summoner Geeks
Xdaemon dun said:
Go watch Summunor Geeks on ifilm.com now. That is about as realistic depiction of D&D as I've ever seen.
Better yet, why not check outthe original sketch in MP3 format over at The Dead Alewives' website, seeing as this is where the (screamingly funny) Summoner Geeks skit came from originally
:)(Warning: If you actually play AD&D, watching this may not be such a good idea. Not because of insult...no...just the titters that will happen from then onward whenever someone states they're going to cast Magic Missile...
:)(Then again, most of the AD&D games I've been into invariably seem to transmogrify themselves into episodes of (insert X series of) Slayers.
;) So one character in a D&D game I was in bore an uncanny resemblance to Gourry Gabriev...the guy who rolled it (my husband) really WASN'T trying for Gourry. It just happened. :) -
No way
We all know AD&D is just a tool of Satan.
;-) So just go back to playing Pokemon like a good prole and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. -
Re:Audience rolls a 20sided die
Du ngeons And Dragons
