The Great Ethanol Scam
After reading all the articles linked to, I noticed not one mentioned one part of the scam. Business Week and Chicago Tribune said the ethanol was corn based. However the same amount of land would produce more ethanol if sugarcane was used instead. With the world's largest biofuels program Brazil uses sugarcane. And switchgrass produces even more. Another benefit of using switchgrass to make ethanol is that it will grow on marginal land other crops aren't grown on.

Parent is true
Parent is not flamebait as the Huffington Post actively works to censor comments it doesn't like and then outright bans the user.
So yes, the Huffington Post does appear to be be a shill site and this attempt at investigative journalism should not be taken seriously.

Re:No, they don't
I had a candidate include their website on the resume - I went to the website and prominently featured thereon was a bunch of MkUltra theory, including how the candidate believes he's a target of CIA mind control.
Now, they virtually wrote this on their application by including their personal website on the resume' - I didn't even have to touch a search engine, and it was clearly them.
Whether you believe in MkUltra or not, I don't think you'd want to hire a self-proclaimed victim of the program. -

wind power
Your construction project is also going to have to hardware to link up 240 generators to the grid. Also they probably arn't going to be able to generate their rated power at all times.
That's no problem, that's already being done. " U.S. Wind Energy Installations Top 20 Gigawatts". Here's a chart of how much each state generates: "10 Gigawatts of wind power (AWEA)".
I doubt it actually takes 23 years to construct a nuclear power plant.
Did you also read about the 5 megawatt wind turbines and how fast power capacity can be added?
Also you arn't restricted to windy places to build them
That's alright, some places are good for wind, others are good for geothermal, solar, or tidal. Geothermal energy produced produced 13,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity in California in 2007. On the Big Island of Hawaii geothermal energy produced 25% of the electricity. Houses in New York City are heated by geothermal energy. From British Columbia to Southern California along the Pacific Coast solar is widely available. Here's a list of states with good solar potential: "Solar takes no shine to Nevada". The title refers to the solar industry not wanting to go to Nevada because right across the state line in California the state has a number of incentives to encourage solar. Simply use whatever type of energy an area has.

US Army against US Citizens
Please pay closer attention to what is happening in your world.
Mr Bush has created and deployed an entire US Army battalion on U.S. soil for use against U.S. citizens for the first time in history. And against 2 U.S. laws forbidding such actions.
The Army says,
"Despite conspiracy theories that this could be a first step toward martial law in the U.S., there won't be tanks on Main Street or active-duty troops putting down demonstrations. That is barred by federal law banning the military from being used on U.S. soil for domestic law enforcement.Instead, the soldiers of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga., have been training to back up civilian authorities in providing medical care and dealing with chemical, biological, high explosive or nuclear attack.
BUT,
Not only does this entirely contradict the first Army Times reports, it also egregiously misrepresents to readers the status of US law in regards to this deployment. Yes, there are laws against military policing on US streets -- they are part of both the 1807 Insurrection Act and 1879's Posse Comitatus Act -- but the Defense Authorization Act of 2007 gutted them.
Congress restored some limitations on the President's ability to deploy troops to engage in military policing in 2008 -- but President Bush issued a signing statement declaring he did not feel bound by those limitations. He also can direct these troops -- and the National Guard, and Blackwater -- to engage in military policing of civilian populations simply by verbally and unilaterally declaring a national emergency of whatever kind he wishes.
Unfortunately, the US Army spokespeople are parsing their words and misleading us. And, whatever the stated mission is today, the fact remains that military up the chain of command report to the Commander in Chief -- not to Congress or to you and me, and not to the Governors as most of the National Guard do."

Re:They're not that badSure it's happened in the past, but not within the time range of less than 100 years. try a few orders of magnitude higher. I think it's interesting when people say ice ages have happened before, and we won't be around to see it. By all evidence the ice age sucked, and many species went extinct during it. It'd be cool if humans didn't in the next one, or if better yet we didn't cause the next one, or even better further, we could avoid it somehow.

Re:What about California?
I did some digging, couldn't find the original contract, but I specifically remember the language "waiving the right to a trial by jury" in it, and it was about 18-20 pages IIRC.
Found a link here And although my phone is not a wireless and I can't count the god damn pages, cause I can't find them I see similar wording in wireless contracts
The contract I got said something like "CONTRACT FOR EXISTING AT&T SERVICES (W/ARBITRATION) INSIDE" And it was a lot of pages, and it said if I do nothing, then that was supposed to be my agreement with it.
It really pisses me off I can't find this now. But I guess the law doesn't give a fuck about being pissed off.

Re:Not a big Republican demographic on Comedy Cent
Please describe how pointing out that one particular group in politics is intolerant, hypocritical and has ridiculous arguments is either hypocritical, intolerant or ridiculous in itself?
BTW, I'm no democrat either, but the right wing take the cake in this arena.
First, your idea that the right is "hypocritical, intolerant or ridiculous" is soundly disproved by the fact that only the Democratic Party has a former KKK member within its ranks. It doesn't help that he is considered a "respected member" of the party.
Let's see, "ridiculous arguments"... Well, "The Surge is a Failure" comes to mind. More recently, "Drilling for oil won't help for 10 years" is another doozie. Instead, they prefer alternative energy which won't help for 30 years. We send kids to school every year that won't graduate for 13. Besides, that is exactly what they said 10 years ago.
Intolerant? How many times to you see people on the right celebrating when someone opposite the aisle gets cancer? I can't find anyone who is happy that Elizabeth Edwards has cancer. Take a look for yourself for a find example of the tolerance of the left. Then, of course, there was the rioters throwing snow balls at Bush's motorcade on his way to his first Inauguration. How many of these people apologized when it was proven that he actually won the election? If you need more examples, they are easy to find. Check out The Daily KOS, Huffington Post or Democratic Underground.
Finally, Nancy Pelosi, who promised, "We will work with Republicans in Congress and the Administration in the spirit of partnership, not partisanship." Is that what she meant when she turned the lights out on them? Maybe she was referring to her quote, "The American people voted for a New Direction to restore civility and bipartisanship in Washington, D.C. Democrats promise to work together in a bipartisan way for all Americans." when she refused a vote to allow offshore drilling. How about her saying, "Democrats are ready to lead, prepared to govern and absolutely willing to work in a bipartisan way." and then saying that Bush is a "Total Failure"?
Hypocritical? There John Edwards winning "Father of the Year". Also, what did Milosovich do that Saddam Hussein didn't? Why was it OK to overthrow the government in Bosnia, but the Senate approved and funded war in Iraq is somehow "illegal"?
Now look, I'm not saying the Republicans are perfect, but don't ignore the sins of one party in order to bash the other for doing the exact same thing!
-
Re:Everyone?
Well, let's see. The so-called "death threats" against you are not death threats at all. A couple of them are asking you to commit suicide, another is even stating you will eventually self destruct. A "death threat" is where someone threatens to kill someone else. None of the comments had such wording or even remotely resembling the wording.
Also, those you call Microsoft or "M$" lovers and haters of free software are nothing of the sort. It is possible to like both closed source and open source software. Just because someone doesn't use M$, Micro$haft, or Windoze doesn't mean they hate open source or Linux. One example you gave was Keith Russell. If he hated open-source software and loved Microsoft as you claim, then he wouldn't be making statements like "This is one of the things that will allow Linux, and FOSS in general, to win in the long term. The multitude of voices and opinions tend to be self-correcting, with benelovent dictators like Linus Torvalds keeping the focus on building up their own products, not tearing down the opposition."1 or "I don't think Microsoft cares that Blu-Ray is Sony's standard, just that it's not Microsoft's standard."
There is no Microsoft conspiracy against you. The reason you have been modded down is because you use "M$" and "Windoze" Microsoft and Windows, which is just as childish as using "Linsux" and "Open Sores" when describing "GNU/Linux" and "Open Source" There are many people on Slashdot who speak against Microsoft and still get modded up. If it were a conspiracy then anyone speaking against Microsoft would be modded down on the spot.
As for Apple, if this is true then a lawsuit is the least of their worries. Apple should worry more about their customers leaving them. Microsoft does at least treats their employees well, homosexuals included.3456 Apple should be treating their employees with more respect.

Thanks for your post. I got it from this web site: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4572001 They in turn copypasted it from this link: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00015 But as you not it was a bad copypaste. Apologies for that. Next time I'll do my own.
BTW note someone "moderated" my post as a troll and it went straight to zero. Presumably not over not copypasting Webb. I though Obama was great until he did the FISA backflip, but say anything back about him and get whacked down. Slashdot needs a way to moderate the "moderators"; moderator points are handed out far to freely.

Re:thought crime
So it's the image that would be illegal as well as the act.
It is already the case that images, rather than abuse, are the target. (See also here.) This apparently would just add "as a federal crime!" and "on the Internet!" to the business model of locking people in cages for having unclean thoughts.

I live very near the ghetto and there's a lot of crime, but I'm middle class, you elitist piece of shit.
That's right, if you thought birth control was expensive, just wait until you pop out 3-5 kids that you know damned well you can't afford!
I was married ten years before I realized that there's no such thing as being able to afford kids. I now wish I'd had them when I was 25 instead of 35.
But that's okay, you can always go on welfare
No you can't; not in the US anyway. In case you've been asleep for over a decade, in 1996 Congress passed and Clinton signed welfare reform into law. Ir abolished the entitlemen AFDC, welfare with the goal of subsidising families and replaced it with TANF, which has the goal of getting poor people into the workforce and has a two year limit on benefits, five years lifetime. There is no longer welfare in America, Bubba. Tell your lord and savior Rush Limbaugh, would you?
And if most people who do this happen to be black, don't you dare point this out
Actually, most people who were on AFDC were as white as me, and I have hazel eyes, you stupid racist dumbass.
Go troll a non-tech forum with your stupidity. Judging from the troll you used, I suggest this one. Hiint: I've never been to that site.

This kind of thing could happen in USA
From the Democratic Underground:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3100544
"You're fired!"
Those are the words that millions of Americans could hear if Congress passes the SAVE Act.
The SAVE Act would require every employer in the U.S. to use so-called "electronic employment verification," cross-checking all current and potential employees' citizenship status against databases that the government itself knows are filled with errors and inaccuracies.
And what if the Social Security Administration (SSA) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) get it wrong and can't verify a person's citizenship or right to work using their buggy database? Tough luck. That person is out of a job, with no right to appeal. And you don't even need to have your identity stolen to be so unlucky.
Does this idea bother you? -

Re:Consumer offerings?
Mining itself causes zero CO2 to be released, it's the burning that is in question.
But CO2 isn't the only problem with coal. Mining, especially the Mountain Top removal I mentioned earlier, plays havoc with the environment where it's mined. CO2 isn't the only pollution.
If you don't like mountain top removal or other coal mining operations, drink more bottled spring water. This will create an economic incentive to preserving a natural state.
Most bottled water isn't spring water. Some of it is ground water and some comes from the tap. But even with true water, the more the demand increases the greater the pressure on the source of that spring water. As it is now aquifers throughout the world are being drained. Water is being pumped out faster than it can be replenished. Take the Ogallala Aquifer in the central US. It is one of the largest aquifers in the world yet it's being drained too fast in some locations. In India water is being pumped from aquifers to irrigate farms unsustainably. Coca-Cola plant in India shuttered over water use. The same is happening elsewhere.
Or just forget about storing it and accept the fact that it has nothing to do with climate change.
So more than 1000 scientists are wrong? What's your education and training that has you knowing more than those who have their degrees in climatology or related fields?

(2) Is there any way of getting times for the hosting changes on the NetCraft report? Or verifying that they are in GMT?

Re:Hold on...
Sure, there are good things happening in Iraq. Not all the US soldiers are dead, and likewise, less than 20% of Iraqis have been tortured and shot (so far). Some that were tortured and shot and survived are recovering, even. Nonetheless, the big story remains the unchecked slaughter civilians by roving sectarian death squads.
Likewise, some glaciers are getting bigger during certain seasons such as winter. The big story remains the unchecked destruction of the planet. -

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/03/20/9-11-and-sadda m/Actually, we didn't lie. Believing something to be true that later turns out to be false is not lying.
While your statement is true, it is not true in this case. It has been well established that this administration had already planned to invade Iraq before the September 11th attacks and that any information which did not fit the plan was thrown out.
See this link: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,6
9 03,1185407,00.htmlFurther, it is well known that what limited intelligence we had was twisted to fit the goal. For instance, when the White House was told by Defense Department analysts that aluminum tubes found in Iraq were actually to be used for rockets, the administration found others who thought the the tubes could be used in a nuclear program. Even then Secretary of State Powell, after looking at the intelligence, said the tubes were for rockets. Guess which opinion the White House used.
Then we lied that Iraq was tied to Al Qaeda.
See the link from Democratic Underground I previously listed. There are several quotes in which Bush specifically says that Iraq was tied to Al Qaeda. However, if you want other sources you can try these:

http://www.newscloud.com/read/73666/ (Rice making the comment for the administration)I could go on if you like but I'm sure you can find other sources, including Bush's own comments on the White House web site (if they haven't removed the evidence) which shows Bush linking Iraq and Al Qaeda even though it was well known that Saddam hated Al Qaeda and had given specific orders to his minions not to cooperate in anyway with Al Qaeda.

CNN changed their exit polls for a number of states after the election was called for Bush. The numbers you are seeing at that site were not the numbers produced by their polling organization. You can check the link below, or simply Google for "CNN" and "change" and "exit polls".

Hurray!
Does this mean next time they want to pull a 9/11 move, it will be easier or harder? These criminals need to go to jail. I don't think we should be shutting down our sky coordination system under the current regime. Is regime the right word for when there isn't a valid election?

Re:The first of many
+5 Insightful? So-called terrorist plans?
Yeah, there is no such thing as terrorism, I forgot. George Bush invented it. Why is it that any good news at any time MUST have an alterior motive? We always hear, "It's an election year", or "isn't the timing just a little too convenient". The governement has been telling us about disrupted plots for years. The first link on a google search pulls up "Thwarted Terrorist Plots Since Sept. 11 Attacks" on the ABC news site (or is ABC a republican talking points shill now?)
The threats out there are very real. We're lucky to have people and processes in place to protect us. Worldwide there have been more than 5312 documented deadly attacks since 9/11. That's not a body or injury count folks, that's just the attacks. At that rate, there are going to be plots uncovered - some even in the US.
Feel free to be snide and cynical. Some of us will continue to fight for your right to say whatever you believe.
Now why don't you go back to the DU and work on the science experiment that proves 9/11 was engineered by the evil President Chimpy McHalliburton and his cronies.

I miss the pre six-digit UID slashdot days. -
Just remember, this is not a fishing expeditionJust like the warrantless phone monitoring, just like law enforcement officials can now invade your home without a warrant to see if there is evidence of a crime so they can get a warrant, this is not a fishing expedition.
Nor are we trying to track where everyone goes or what they read. We're ensuring that everyone is fully protected from those bad, bad terrorists. You know, 9/11 and all.
You see, people want to be free. We're ensuring they can be free by these actions. All we ask is that people understand that we're in it for the long run and ask for their patience while we administer these proctology exams.
Just remember, 9/11 was a wakup call. We can't let these terrorists take our freedoms away.

Re:Not so funny when/if the seller commits suicideDo you honestly think the Republicans would give it a rest if the election went the other way?
Considering that they're generally not the ones slashing get-out-the-vote van tires, shooting out the windows of rival campaign offices (also happened in Huntinton, WV, BTW), I'd guess that, yes, the GOP would likely be more civil. Crap, even Nixon declined to challenge the 1960 election even though his case would have been far more believeable than Gore's.
Take a stroll through DU to see just how crazed and freakish your side is. All that seething has to be tiring.
