Re:What's the cost for Cash?
We have a credibility problem with this post. A retailer who doesn't understand the difference between a debit and a credit card? Suspicious, I say.
"We really love it when a customer pays by debit and gets cash back at the same time"
Oh - sorting coins into rolls? FFS, just buy a cheap little mechanical device to do it for you. What, fifteen dollars invested? Let me look - - - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Semacon-Professional-Coin-roller-Model-CM-65-/111003606891?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d8549f6b Used or slightly used for about fifty bucks, complete with a "cereal number". Makes me wonder if he was sorting his corn flakes by size or something, but hey, it's none of MY business what he does behind closed doors!

Re:Batteries
What? There are plenty of such external chargers available. Did the OP even looked it up. This is the one I have http://www.ebay.com/sch/items/?_nkw=3G+multi-purpose+battery+chargers . It chargers slowly (about twice the time my phone takes to charge to 100%), but there are better models available.

Unfortunately, the adapter to make it SATA brings the price up to almost $40.

Re:eBay link
I am probably underselling myself here, but I would likely accept the first serious offer for $20K or above.
That may seem like a lot, but if you do completed auction searches on eBay, you will see that the top dozen or so games (EarthBound, Hagane, Harvest Moon, Incantation, Aero Fighters, 3 Ninjas Kick Back, Metal Warriors, Mega Man X3,
...) routinely sell for $400-1000 a piece when complete in box. The next four dozen easily command $100-350. That leaves you with about $5 per complete in box game for the rest, in a market where the prices have continued to rise steadily for the past several years.see what Pawn Stars will give you for it
:)Hint: Not enough!

Re:What is the point?
Or go on eBay and get one of these Chinese Android devices and get an XBox game controller for the cost of one or two of their controllers. With one of these or the Ouya you don't have to tie up your cell phone or tablet.

Re:This is already the case with in-dash GPS.
Someone needs to come up with a docking module on the dash, to which you can dock a standard device that can be upgraded over the years.
No, you need to be aware of the preexisting docking module for the dash, because "someone" has already made this.
.Kind of like the old "DIN" standard for car stereos
I believe you mean the current "DIN" standard, which is for a hell of a lot more than car stereos. For example, you can purchase standardized 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 DIN and such modules for gauges, set point controllers, etc. In any case, this unit is a single-DIN to iPod dock, which is precisely what you're asking for, available as a retrofit.
What we need is a standard for the touch displays in automobiles, so that if we install our own replacement, we can use the integrated displays. And we need it forced on manufacturers, because otherwise they sure as shit will not give it to us. If you've seen what in-vehicle electronic systems look like, they are always proprietary as all hell. Maybe they carry oddly separated signals to the display, for example, and if it's touch they certainly don't want you getting that data out. But we can't even manage to force manufacturers to give us the service codes for our cars, so odds are sharply against us here.
Ultimately, anyone who buys a car with a wacky stereo deserves to fail, and anyone who buys a car with built-in navigation that they can't afford to update has already failed.

Re:Silicon Valley - as defined by age
I left that place when I was 32 - after I sold my creations (plural) there to the highest bidders
Pics or it didn't happen!
I don't even see how that's possible. Etsy didn't even exist back then, so there's no way he could've sold his creations there.
Maybe he used eBay?

Re:And this is news?
Maybe some early Honda stuff. A 305 Dream would be good. Or, if you want something that was pretty high tech for it's time, check out the CX and GL 500's. Those twisted twins are still roaming the highways of the world, turning admiring heads everywhere they go. While they don't lead the pack while running through the twisties, a lot of young men on more modern bikes find that they can't get away from them either! Early computers? Crap - the wife has been nagging at me to get rid of all this old computer crap that is now almost worthless. Honda's stuff is still valuable!

Re:Oh did you fix your supply problem?
I bought my first two from CPC http://cpc.farnell.com/
Unfortunately their "check stock" link isn't loading for me, so assuming the worst they may be sold out now.Checking eBay though, here are 4 of them including a very nice case, for $35 each using buy-it-now (not an auction)

I hope this helps though. -

Re:Search for spherical neodymium magnets...
Really? I guess your searching skills might need a little help.
After doing this search, I even purchased a set to see what all the hoopla was about.
-
Re:Search for spherical neodymium magnets...
Use just a tiny bit of intelligence. Do you seriously think no one can sell spherical magnets? It's the NAME that is protected; that's all.
I will readily admit that ebay's search function sucks donkey balls. Generally you do get better results just using google to search ebay for stuff. Or another good search engine, but google was the first one that worked and I still like them. IMO google search was the most innovative and critically useful tool to be invented for the web since the latter's creation.

Re:But
For emergency charging of your cellphone something like this is useful. I normally use it for camping but I took it out last weekend and made sure the battery was powered up so we would have lights and cellphone charging in case of a power outage. The best part is even during the storm on Tuesday it was still able to charge the battery, amorphous panels don't need that much light to keep a cellphone charged.

Re:PayPal is not a bank
Honey, nobody gives a hoot about your business model. You are so quick to jump on PayPal, you want it to be a bank? So which bank exactly do you want PayPal to be, bank of America? Citi? HSBC? They are ready to take over that business and handle it with such care, that you'll be out of business in no time.
Maybe you want the same rules are regulations and taxes and laws apply to your eBay store as there are IRL rules and taxes and laws and regulations that apply to Brick and Mortar stores? How quickly would you fold if you had to comply with everything that they have to comply with? It wouldn't take too long, besides, you'd be outsold by their online presense if PayPal is turned into a 'real' bank in the first place.
You think PayPal is bad for business? Nobody prevents you from charing VISA or taking a check for you eBay transactions.
You don't like living off of gov't handouts? So why do you want to turn another company into a bank, so that they could get government handouts? FDIC is a handout. So is Federal Reserve discount window.
Here is eBay's policy on payments with the list of the options

Bill Me Later
--

Bank-to-bank transfers (also known as bank wire transfers and bank cash transfers)
Checks
Money orders
Online payment services: Allpay.net, CertaPay, hyperwallet.com, Fiserv, Nochex.com, XOOM

People are buying Linux laptops
Linux already runs on shipping laptops, albeit not necessarily GNU/Linux or X11/Linux. There are Android tablets with a clamshell keyboard (e.g. ASUS Transformer series), there are Android netbooks, and there are Chromebooks.

Re:...Why?
You can't carry atomic clocks in your pocket, they're a tad too big for that.
Actually, it seems you can. And even older generations weren't that huge - certainly too big to carry in your pocket, but not impossible to mount in a vehicle, aircraft or ship. E.g. this HP 5071A which can be yours for the bargain basement price of just $27.500.
So maybe some GPS receivers can indeed get a 3D fix with 3 satellites, when combined with (or including) an atomic clock.

Re:so?
ipads to shoes? your argument has jumped the shark.
some Jordans are collectibles (go check ebay) $450!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/DS-Nike-Air-Jordan-IV-Doernbecher-Sz-7-Men-Cement-Bred-Retro-Lebron-KD-7-5-Wtk-/271072770927?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&hash=item3f1d323b6f
collectible means they have value beyond feet protection. So for some, it's an investment of sorts - has NOTHING to do with fashion because YOU DON'T WEAR THEM.
"Or are you gonna accept its fashion that makes it uncool to be having last year's Jordans on your feet just as its uncool to be carrying last year's iPad?"
and who's more image conscious? he who wants to be seen with an ipad, or he who DOESN'T? -
Re:Printing Money
Sure. You SAY it's not illegal. How confident are you in that? Are you willing to go to jail to get the opportunity to prove it?
I don't say it's not ilegal, 18 U.S.C. 922(o) and (r), 26 U.S.C. 5822, 27 CFR 478.39, 479.62 and 479.105 does.
Gun control law is illogical, inconsistent, and subject to huge penalties and stigmas (do you want 'arrested on weapons charges, 2012' on your resume, even if you are cleared?).
FYI, you are only legally required to list convictions on job applications.
There's a reason companys like eBay and craigslist shy away from allowing even very obviously legal items--even gun accesories like holsters--to be traded on their sites--our lords at the ATF have no sense of humor.
Well, you would have a point there, if your little anecdote had an ounce of truth to it.

One DVM per child
How about giving away a free voltmeter to any student from a 3rd world nation who passes the edX course "Circuits and Electronics"?
6002x "Circuits and Electronics", an online version of the MIT introductory electronics course. This was an exact copy of the MIT course, taught by an MIT professor, and was just as hard as the original course. Same material, same difficulty, online format.
Some of the 7,000 graduates were from 3rd world nations. For example, this article talks about a class of high-school students in Mongolia:
I'm reminded of William Kamkwamba, who built a wind-powered generator and was able to bring electricity to his village. His Ted talk is pretty interesting.
Mr. Kamkwamba had nothing. He built his windmill from scratch after learning the principles of electricity from books in the local library. He built his own circuit breaker by winding wire onto nails driven into wood.
His task would have been so much easier if he could have measured continuity, or the output voltage of his generator.
Most of the modern world is based on electronics - measurements, actions, communications, and so on. Having the tools and understanding would allow people to repair broken equipment and machinery, to take pieces from ewaste and hook them together in new ways, and generally have better life opportunities.
Supplying 5,000 students (a generous estimate) would cost only $10,000.
Here is the contact page for edX.

Vtech
I I learned how to type on a V-Tech aparatus in '98. Vtech mostly makes toys and stuff. This thing had a normal keyboard layout and a small LCD display. I think it only ran on a couple of AA's and might be right up your alley. It was similar to this.

Re:Great!
I don't see why they can't recycle the beryllium liner after the implosion. Maybe not in this device, but in a fully production model, if beryllium is really scarce.
But since it costs $25 for a gram on Ebay, I doubt it's very scarce, since there's already a substantial demand from its other industrial and military applications.

Re:"One laptop" program may be what you want
Brand new: http://www.hammacher.com/Product/81898?tid=pr81898. More than a $150 tablet, but better than a $150 tablet that you can't use.

Re:AVR!
Came to see if someone already mentioned this. A 40x2 line character LCD, an Atmel ATmega8, a PS/2 keyboard and a 5V power supply should be available for about $20 combined. 1KB of RAM should be enough for a scrollback buffer. The problem with this approach is that it'll take a lot of time to make these parts into something useful.
Another option is a cheap Android tablet ($50) or phone and a low cost Bluetooth keyboard ($20).

I got 99 problems but citing aint one.
Any dispute or claim relating in any way to your use of any Amazon Service, or to any products or services sold or distributed by Amazon or through Amazon.com will be resolved by binding arbitration, rather than in court
YOU UNDERSTAND THAT BY THIS PROVISION, YOU AND EA ARE FOREGOING THE RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND HAVE A JURY TRIAL.
...Agreement to Arbitrate, which will, with limited exception, require you to submit claims you have against us to binding and final arbitration, unless you opt-out of the Agreement to Arbitrate (see Legal Disputes, Section B ("Agreement to Arbitrate")). Unless you opt-out: (1) you will only be permitted to pursue claims against eBay on an individual basis....
THIS AGREEMENT REQUIRES THE USE OF ARBITRATION ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS TO RESOLVE DISPUTES
On top of all this I have found generic arbitration clauses and a plethora of companies that are too numerous to count.

Re:FB shares
Amazon is not alone.
Both eBay and AliExpress are competing in this arena, and if I had my guess, AliExpress is going to be a formidable competitor because of the international nature of their operations.
Remember when "internet search" meant "Yahoo"?
Things can change damn fast these days, rivers of revenue change courses, and what was once a river becomes a dry bed of sand.
Just one tax law or regulation changes, then a business model based on the existing set of conditions becomes nonviable. Just as copyright law put napster out of business, tax law could easily put a damper on interstate trade - not revectoring the trade through a local route, but stopping the trade completely. It seems that 99% of the stuff I buy, I really do not need, but at a good price, I'll go for it Bump the price or aggravation to purchase up, and I'll just say "to hell with it", and the purchase and resulting economic activity just doesn't happen. -
Several suggestions
You can control a smartphone over Bluetooth. Search for "a2dp receiver". First hit on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEREO-BLUETOOTH-HEADSET-HEADPHONE-A2DP-MOBILE-WIRELESS-CORDLESS-/350596896980?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item51a13418d4 They're cheap and readily available, and they have hardware buttons for pause/play/next/prev. Anyone who knows which end of the soldering iron to hold can tap into the buttons.
Or just get a MP3 player that has actual hardware buttons; again just solder yourself in instead of trying to figure out a control API.
Alternatively, use an Android netbook, phone, or tablet. Cheap, easy to customize the firmware to your needs, USB ports so you can control it either by emulating a keyboard or using a serial dongle (you may have to hack the media player software), no Apple tax. 9h battery life is tough, but if you can get a DC port of some sort on the aircraft then you can use a DC-DC converter to run it as much as you need.

Re:The fundamental design flaw of Bitcoin technolo
The system you described, which is commonly known as "escrow", can be trivially implemented on top of Bitcoin. There are, in fact, several Bitcoin escrow providers already.
No. Escrow involves trusting a third party. That adds risk. Escrow agent fraud has been a big problem on eBay. Also, escrow involves identifying the parties to the escrow agent, so anonymity is lost.
It is even possible to incorporate escrow and arbitration directly into the existing transaction format using N-of-M multisignature transactions.
Multisignature transactions are being implemented, but I don't see that N of M transactions are. It's a good idea, though.

Still usable, and still worth a bit

It's still quite a usable device.

Re:Does this also include
Also, check the feedback for this seller. It looks like 100% (and is) but his 173 "customers" show rather a lot of repeats from the same few buyers. There would be fees to pay ebay for these sales, so I don't understand what exactly is happening here. Seems a bit crude for money laundering, but maybe someone needs a lot of spells
