Re:Light source behind the display, glasses?
I can't get to the site I usually use (my PDA won't load it) but Google offered one that is similar:
http://wiki.ehow.com/Exercise-Your-Eyes
I also tried the Bates method, but there have been some debates over it. I've tried a few different ones over the year. In the last 6 months I stopped the exercises and I believe my vision isn't as "quick" as it had been, but this could be mind over matter as well. -
New Ask Slashdot Requirement
This is actually an interesting question and so were some others in the past.
I think the submitters should be force into developing a simple webpage that details what they did based on the knowledge slashdot gave them.
Heck, they could put it on ehow.com they have a wiki how to website http://wiki.ehow.com/Main-Page -
They'll suck for the same reason ...
... that non-video blogs suck.

I saw this before I took the how-to of the day off my google page. I've no clue if it works or would be cheaper and produce enough for you. Good luck. -
Re:What about the nasties in the exhaust?
i also did rtfa
... this article is just complete nonsense from the militar point of view:)
if the filter system gets 1 bullet, it's baked and the regular soldiers who can't fix it will just die into water exhaust. maybe a bullet is even overdone, one serious bump on a "good" iraq highway and you're baked. and there is no walmart over there neither to get the spare parts :D. if you go into desert, all you take along should be fixable by you and by simple means.
if they need water, then they better rely on this :
http://wiki.ehow.com/Make-Water-in-the-Desert
cause every bozo with an m4 and a drawing of this can make it work (unlike the sci-fi water filter).
tehcnology like this could be used for desert travellers, but not for soldiers.
besides, would you drink it ? i wouldnt. as pure as US tap water doesnt say a dong to me. the tap water in new orleans for example should be pretty lethal by now ... so ... -
Re:big or small targets?
When is Cisco, D-Link, Netgear, going to learn to turn on encryption by default?
It still astounds me that computers seem to halve people's intelligence. What is WEP going to get you?
Yes, I just karma whored a google search for "WEP encryption break".
Also, I don't use WEP at home, nor do I use any kind of encryption by default at work for our ethernet. In fact, I've only heard of things that are by default encrypted like interbank communication, and I would assume the military might use some encryption between some links, but its not universal.
So please, WAP manufactures, start doing what none of us already do on a daily basis. It will improve security. -
Re:I really hope they do real articles too
Make your own how-to-pages on wikiHow then: http://wiki.ehow.com/Main-Page
Though how-to and how-stuff-works aren't exactly the same, but enough close for me. -

Re:Why can't he just return it?My old roommate had the same problem. His XBox started giving read errors all the time so he bought a new one about 4 months ago. Not sure if his was a launch model or not. With Microsoft losing so much money on each XBox, they probably are not using the highest quality components out there.
I've heard of this happening with PS2s as well and the first Playstation was known for failing. They overheated so to get them to work you have to stand them on their side so the vents on the bottom can breathe or flip them over. This worked with a different roommates old Playstation which was a launch model.

TiVo is not prior art...I don't think TiVo could be considered prior art. The cited patent refers to patent 6,141,488 from September 5, 1997 that seems to cover a lot of what is at issue. TiVo itself was founded in 1997 as well, so no good news there. Not to sure about that VCR+Gold stuff that some RCA appliances had, I have no idea how old that is and all of its capabilities are but I believe it has electronic schedule distribution with some sort of interactive guide for choosing what programs to record.
IANAL but I seem to recall someone else mentioning if a patent was not enforced for 6 years (e.g. a company let others infringe on their patents for more than 6 years) then some sort of statute of limitations has passed...this seems to back up my memory. That implies that TiVo might be off the hook unless the lawsuit has already been filed or they have licensed it already.

Re:Tired of being a "cycling eunuch"? Try this!
Those seats are not only awkward as hell but heavy as well.
The issue is not the seat (saddle) itself but the Angle that it is adjusted at. Basically you have to realize that up and down are not the only adjustments that can be made to the saddle but the nose/tail is adjustable as well. See this article.
Also, if you simply use a saddle such as this one which is specifically designed for "offering improved comfort in the soft tissue area" you will have a much better ride.
Also to note is that all of this information is relevant for so-called "Road bikes" as well as the currently much more popular "Mountain bikes"
