The woman who would appreciate this card very well may say the following...
Why this card is automatic...It's systematic...It's hydromatic...Why it's Creased lightning (Creased lightning)
Well someone had to make the obligatory "Imagine a Beowolf Cluster of These" reference...
The biggest problem is that if one were to imagine a "cluster" of these their fear would or should escalate dramatically.
To reduce this to the level of the individual, I can not state how little I want Big Brother (or Anyone for that matter) to be watching me and waiting for me to do *Anything* that can perhaps be used somewhere down the road for "proof". ("Right now, it's hard to prove that (for instance) riot police really beat the crap out of innocent people at a demonstration")
To see the other side of the argument i.e. the benifits of this technology, I have to say that the abuse or the potential for abuse far outweighs even the smallest amount of potential benifit...

This seems to be a nice and multi-featured unit. The expansion slot is something that I have been waiting on for a little while now and the fact that AAC is supported is nice but too bad no OGG though. Seeing that the USB Driver for "Linux 2.4.19" was included makes this my personal top choice now as to MP3 Players.
Plus, they happen to be a huge supporter of scientific research and development...let's not be too quick to insult one of the few remaining patrons of science.
Indeed. While it is to some people, a challenge to work for the government/military, it is Never to be viewed in the case of you, the potential worker or in this case *Researcher* not knowing what you get when you go into the job or *Experiment*.
DARPA is the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Agency manages and directs basic and applied research and development projects for DoD, and pursues research and technology where the risk and payoff are both very high and where success may provide dramatic advances for traditional military roles and missions. Congress authorized DARPA to award cash prizes as a means of recognizing outstanding achievements in Defense-related research and development.

This sounds just like the PDA I would Love to have which is of course the point here.
My single question is one of integration in that I do not want to carry a full-featured Calculator and a PDA I just want the PDA itself yet with this awesome calculator function integrated. Where does the line exist anymore between PDAs and Calculators especially Linux powered devices?
I have my well worn and pages folded book of animals...er...real estate right here in my pocket:-)
in an effort to fantasize on some level
I think this really is the main point and what I would tend to believe. It is the same logic as Flight Simulators where I can not go buy or even rent an F-16 or A-10 but I can play on the game level and get a really big kick out of it. Obviously the difference is that I would not pay (other than for the software perhaps) to fly said airplane.
Together everyone. Humor intended, toungue in cheek...check...
...even the actor's voices are computer-generated...making this possibly the world's first all-artificial movie
Just Think about all the Artificial Pr0n you can create with this technology! Wait...No need for Actors or Actresses...Oh the Possibilities are Endless!:-)
...since the last time Slashdot covered this topic.
But in my case, I can say that I have made some inroads in both the living world (insurance mods, finance mods, Living Will conversations and the like) and the after I am gone (in this body anyways) world. The largest step that I have taken in the after I am gone world is to comprehend that as of right this moment at least, I have NOTHING that anyone would really want or need to see as far as data or anything "electronic". Really, all I have done is set up a Safety Deposit box that will eventually hold the Legal papers and insurance docs.
Web site scanning from anywhere in the world to devices that have routable Internet-facing addresses would allow script kiddie remote access, at which point you could flash the unit with new firmware, extract the WEP or WPA key, or just mess up someone's configuration and change the password
While just a wee bit of topic...Here in the SW US I worked with a company who specializes in wireless networking and as a test, two of their techs, one with a dish/receiver connected to a laptop running Debian being held by the other tech, scanned a 360 degree "loop" (turned in a circle basically) and looked for open gateways or compromised boxes. In that one loop, they found over 20 open networks! Let me also add that this area was neither in the city proper, nor is this a terribly dense in population area.
Just some alarm to go along with your coffee this morning
The identification of this large population of long-sought 'hidden' black holes is the first scientific discovery to emerge from a Virtual Observatory
While not entirely a SETI oriented comment or question, I guess I was just wondering/typing out loud...Remember the Dinosaur?:-) Just made me wonder who is good enough to pull a joke like that on "us".
This looks like a very good, well-featured Open-Source project that is providing users everywhere with a Choice in what they install on their computers.
Or to state more appropriately, what is Inkscape going to do to get marketshare from Illustrator that the GIMP hasn't already tried and failed to do when attempting to grab Photoshop marketshare?
No this is the real question and one that begs an answer. One possible answer to this is that as it takes money to make money...Marketing is therefore the answer.
At the company that I work for (A company that is Hyper-Specific about their legal/patent/information sharing policies) this is remedied in a somewhat simplistic manner, though the goal and outcome is still the same. Basically, in a normal email there are settings ala low, medium or high importance but there is also a very specific (read: the Legal Button) check box of "Company Confidential" which is to be used in all the same legal respects as the original posters legal.sig type file.
Exactly. The scary element for me here is how oddly reminiscent of copying or dubbing cassette tapes back and forth in the 80's...YOW! Did I type that out loud?!
This reminds me alot of Junk Bond trading from what I remember of reading in the newspapers (remember those things...newspapers that is...well, soon SCO too) at the time.
With what the remainder of the stock is selling for now and considering outside held debt, this would not be a good time to invest in SCO
Have you asked your wife/husband if they would like to play or join the group you are so involved with? If not that group, how about setting up a parallel group that plays the same game?
...They just don't much advertise it. They're too busy making cars to be selling information about them...
It would seem like a lucrative market to "market" the information. Depends on where you point the marketing but magazines, tech web sites, car shows on TV etc are options. Why do we have to PAY for it though? It is your car after all. I understand having to pay for the tools and knowledge TO read it of course but beyond that is FUD.
I am happy that I do not have to type it, but not that you said everything that I had in mind as well:-)
One more point on top of the others is that I felt that Sony put too many somewhat flimsy objects or bits on top of the same handheld. As an example, not only a camera, but a camera that takes picures through a screen that moves/pivots. While this seems "cool" it is a complete recipe for failure in a very short time IMHO.
If we have night vision goggles, we can see ahem...night vision "action" and as long as there was to be a video camera anyways as well as money, we point money, camera and night vision goggles to the couple snogging in the back row and make a profit upon selling it on the web...and to their parents:-)

Does this mean that I should now look at the FTC Website with a -1 setting in Mozilla?

Don't forget "Calling police" or "buckle up your safety belt"
You have to wonder who is going to pay attention to all of this...Let alone Read it.

The result suggests that astronomers may have underestimated the number of powerful supermassive black holes by as much as a factor of five
AMAZING!
The fact that we as a community can see and "Learn" in what is almost real-time...incredible.
Two seperate questions and issues here.
What makes this a killer?

It doesn't. Each copy will be slightly worse.

The cube displays data from Bro along 3 axes and creates interesting visual results (port scans, barber poles, lawnmower).
"So Cube...do you see anyone invading us from the 201.163.x.x range?" "YES"
"That's Tron. He fights for the Users."
Exactly. I would now like to set up my reservation for this please.
:-)
Let me kill two birds with one stone here...Can you imagine a Beowolf Cluster of these
Now...I bet I can run Linux on this with No Problem...
Colossus has been Rebuilt

Great! In time for the next X-Men movie too
