Re:Akin to a warrant...
K9 units are referred to as probable cause on four legs. Since an officer can easily indicate to the dog that they want the dog to perform an alert (and can do so in a way that isn't obvious to normal people) the probable cause they grant is largely bullshit just like the polygraph.

AL-LAD
Alexander Shulgin synthesized a slight variation of LSD called AL-LAD.
https://erowid.org/library/boo...It lasts about half as long as LSD.
At low doses, AL-LAD is less cerebral, more visual than LSD.
At high doses, the effects get more similar, nearly identical.I can fully recommend it and haven't taken any apparent damage after 20+ AL-LAD trips.
... or if you're more naturally inclined, you could just eat magic mushrooms, which also act much shorter than LSD.
Personally I find mushrooms to be much more difficult to handle emotionally. -
DEA already has rescheduled and overruled itself
Based upon this record it is the recommended decision of the administrative law judge that the substance 3, 4-
methylenedioxymethamphetamine, also known as MDMA, should be placed in Schedule III.
Dated: MAY 22 1986
Francis L Young, Administrative Law JudgeI don't know the process here between FDA and DEA, which has which ultimate powers regarding final say on drug scheduling, but I have a feeling the drug is going to be rescheduled by the FDA (it is a "good," drug, a miracle drug, and the benefits to patients far outweighs the damage to those who abuse drugs), and then something fishy will happen at the DEA, and someone will overstep their authority, just like last time, and it will again be decided in court who gets their way, the nanny-staters and asshole control freaks or the doctors, scientists, and patients that need the drug.

Re:Walking past bouncers, magic already happened
What worked for me was to very humbly ASK the doctor about my preferred medication, to not seem overly confident that I wanted that specific medication. "I was reading about ABC and sounded interesting because XYZ. Would it be worth trying ABC, do you think?"
Has its own hazards. I started building my interactions with people on the platform of always dealing honestly, which I find can almost compensate for being an asshole about it. If the doctor says no or tries to put me on amphetamines, I'm going to have a problem; I don't *want* adderall, it's going to cause side-effects I'm not willing to tolerate, and I'm not going to be able to just spin another line of bullshit to cover for "it's not working exactly the way I want" even though it isn't. Spending the whole time putting on an act like I haven't planned all this way in advance is fragile.
On the flip side, I'm already on adrafinil, and know how it compares to methylphenidate (at a distance--I stopped that 15 years ago, and never slept when I was on it) and something very close to an amphetamine (e.g. adderall). You might notice the lower-left benzine on methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) leading to that HN on the right, as well.
I have a good, honest argument for these kinds of stimulants causing too many side-effects, carrying too much risk, and just not working as well as other things. Adrafinil becomes Modafinil in the body; it's a better proxy to judge modafinil than phenylpiracetam is to judge adderall. You make a good argument for buy-in--people respond well to being in charge of the decision--and I'm just remiss to use that tactic as a basis for a patient-physician relationship.
I am, of course, horribly unsocialized, and don't know what to expect when interacting with people in general. I haven't spoken to a doctor in 15 years--more than half my life. Maybe I'm just unfairly assuming they'll all be hostile and totally disinterested in the patient's perspective.

Re:Placebo
Ah, alcohol... What concentration?
The thing is that everyone seems to say different things about stability. this page suggests that when not in solution it's more stable. There's a guy here saying that storage in ethanol causes loss of potency. Here it's recommended to keep it dry and same here, but they're clearly having blotter in mind. This one says it's very unstable as blotter but can be kept in aqueous with preservatives.
Haven't really tried the 1P yet. Did a 50 mic test dose about 6 weeks ago and not much happened. Last week was a very intense mushroom trip, so I'm going to stay sober for at least 4 weeks or so before going for the 1P.

Re:Reinstate the Prohibition
which is completely irrelevant because there is no evidence whatsoever either that marijuana impairs driving ability
Selected effects from Erowid (hardly a pro-prohibition source) which impact one's ability to operate machinery:
* slowness (slow driving, talking)
* interruption of linear memory; difficulty following a train of thought
* time sense altered (for example, cars seem like they are moving too fast); time dilation and compression are common at higher doses
* dizziness, confusion
* clumsiness, loss of coordination at high dosesOne would think that we could agree that people should have full control of their faculties when operating heavy machinery. Personally, I wasted three years of my life smoking weed, I know first hand what the effects are, and I don't care to share the roadways with a bunch of stoned drivers. If you need THC so badly you can't stay sober while operating your automobile you've got a problem and need to seek help.
As an aside, I really hate people who have to argue in favor of marijuana by dismissing the known negative effects. You can't just say "Let people be responsible for their own choices", you have to dismiss the negative effects of recreational drug use. Perhaps that's a logical reaction to 75 years of lying from the other side, but it still seems intentionally dishonest to me.

SYNTHESIS: (from MDA) A solution of 6.55 g of 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) as the free base and 2.8 mL formic acid in 150 mL benzene was held at reflux under a Dean Stark trap until no further H2O was generated (about 20 h was sufficient, and 1.4 mL H2O was collected). Removal of the solvent gave an 8.8 g of an amber oil which was dissolved in 100 mL CH2Cl2, washed first with dilute HCl, then with dilute NaOH, and finally once again with dilute acid. The solvent was removed under vacuum giving 7.7 g of an amber oil that, on standing, formed crystals of N-formyl-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine. An alternate process for the synthesis of this amide involved holding at reflux for 16 h a solution of 10 g of MDA as the free base in 20 mL fresh ethyl formate. Removal of the volatiles yielded an oil that set up to white crystals, weighing 7.8 g.
A solution of 7.7 g N-formyl-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine in 25 mL anhydrous THF was added dropwise to a well stirred and refluxing solution of 7.4 g LAH in 600 mL anhydrous THF under an inert atmosphere. The reaction mixture was held at reflux for 4 days. After being brought to room temperature, the excess hydride was destroyed with 7.4 mL H2O in an equal volume of THF, followed by 7.4 mL of 15% NaOH and then another 22 mL H2O. The solids were removed by filtration, and the filter cake washed with additional THF. The combined filtrate and washes were stripped of solvent under vacuum, and the residue dissolved in 200 mL CH2Cl2. This solution was extracted with 3x100 mL dilute HCl, and these extracts pooled and made basic with 25% NaOH. Extraction with 3x75 mL CH2Cl2 removed the product, and the pooled extracts were stripped of solvent under vacuum. There was obtained 6.5 g of a nearly white residue which was distilled at 100-110 C at 0.4 mm/Hg to give 5.0 g of a colorless oil. This was dissolved in 25 mL IPA, neutralized with concentrated HCl, followed by the addition of sufficient anhydrous Et2O to produce a lasting turbidity. On continued stirring, there was the deposition of fine white crystals of 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine hydrochloride (MDMA) which were removed by filtration, washed with Et2O, and air dried, giving a final weight of 4.8 g.
(from 3,4-methylenedioxyphenylacetone) This key intermediate to all of the MD-series can be made from either isosafrole, or from piperonal via 1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2-nitropropene. To a well stirred solution of 34 g of 30% hydrogen peroxide in 150 g 80% formic acid there was added, dropwise, a solution of 32.4 g isosafrole in 120 mL acetone at a rate that kept the reaction mixture from exceeding 40 C. This required a bit over 1 h, and external cooling was used as necessary. Stirring was continued for 16 h, and care was taken that the slow exothermic reaction did not cause excess heating. An external bath with running water worked well. During this time the solution progressed from an orange color to a deep red. All volatile components were removed under vacuum which yielded some 60 g of a very deep red residue. This was dissolved in 60 mL of MeOH, treated with 360 mL of 15% H2SO4, and heated for 3 h on the steam bath. After cooling, the reaction mixture was extracted with 3x75 mL Et2O, the pooled extracts washed first with H2O and then with dilute NaOH, and the solvent removed under vacuum The residue was distilled (at 2.0 mm/108-112 C, or at about 160 C at the water pump) to provide 20.6 g of 3,4-methylenedio

Re:Global warming is causing bad grades now
then why are they using rising CO2 as the gauge instead of the much more relevant declining O2 levels?
Your body measures CO2 levels, not O2 levels, to know when to breathe. Your brain will go into full scale psychedelic freakout mode if CO2 levels are high even in there's plenty of O2. CO2 is incredibly relevant.

You ate fugu because you were attracted to the possibility of it killing you? That's kind of dark, dude. Everyone else eats fugu because they like the subtle, fresh flavor and slightly firm texture... or in the hopes that non-lethal trace amounts of the toxin will induce hallucinagenic trips.

Re: One small problem...
What's the point in detecting something that is perfectly legal?
Much like police dogs that "alert" based of the whims of their handlers, this technology will likely be useful for creating "probable cause" against anyone who's been in direct or indirect contact with some sulfur-containing materials.
-
Porn is only first step
Next will be "questionable" sites like erowid.org.
-
Re:Last Sentence
> They could have asked the dog, and he would tell them, but putting dogs on you without probable
> cause is almost certainly illegal search violation.I would argue the dog itself doesn't even constitute a search since they are so unrelaiable IN THIS CASE. There have been some great studies which have shown that dogs are only really useful in cases where their handler has no notion of what he might find or where. So border checkpoints, or random bomb searches, they are great....
The problem is, that when the handler suspects there may be something to find, the animal almost always "detects" something. A great study recently setup a course to test dogs and handlers. The handlers were told that there were drug and bomb scent samples throughout a church, some of which were marked, some which were not.
The trick: There were no drug scent samples. ALL of the marked spots were fakes, even some which included some meat for the dog to get him interested in it.
The result? Lots of "hits". Only a very small minority of search trials found no hits at all, and the highest percentage of hits were not in the places where there was meat for the dog, but where there was a flag for the handler to see:
https://www.erowid.org/freedom/police/police_article1.shtml
Its really pretty striking that these are allowed at all. Its not even clear why a judge would issue a warrant for something this unreliable.

Re:Before the libertarians start preaching...
and I believe that drugs are even more likely to be abused than alcohol
Do you believe that alcohol is less dangerous than all other (currently illegal) drugs out there? Even for drugs beyond marijuana there's plenty of evidence to the contrary...
Also please keep in mind that given the legalisation of a range of drugs, people may "experiment" with multiple but then find that they settle on one or two of a lesser danger for longer term use. The health risks of taking MDMA at nightclubs every second weekend for example is (if well managed) significantly lower than the health risks of drinking large quantities of alcohol at nightclubs every second weekend (as many younger people do).
These days, I only drink alcohol in social settings with family (e.g. a glass of wine or beer with a meal). I haven't been drunk in an extremely long time. Alcohol is quite simply not my substance of choice. I've tried a very wide range of drugs; including (but not limited to), Marijuana, Cocaine, Speed, Meth, MDMA, LSD, and many more. I found that MDMA is something I enjoy perhaps once every few years or so; LSD is something I enjoy for the mind-expanding qualities that it provides and I use around 3 to 4 times a year; and the rest are all very uninteresting to me (as with alcohol). Cocaine I might do again if it were legal and significantly cheaper (it feels good; but not for long; and doesn't even begin to compare to MDMA for "good feelings"), but only in the right circumstances and definitely not often.

Re:Colorful Metaphors
While I appreciate the joke you were going for, one does not simply overdose on LSD. The LD50 is very, very large in comparison to a normal dose (by a factor of around 120). You'd almost have to do it intentionally, and at that point it's not so much LSD use as a suicide attempt by rather inefficient means.

Re:Beef jerky lolwut?
There's at least 1 site/community active now (which I will decline to name) that uses TOR and BitCoin to create a semi-anonymous network for international mail-order drug trade. Besides the technological sophistication, these places are a world apart from any "online pharmacy"-type web sites that may spam your inbox. (Those have all been credit-card-info honeypots for a decade or longer, besides.) They simply don't advertise, period - the TOR/BitCoin-based communities are way underground. Private torrent trackers don't have shit on these guys. They basically function like a marketplace - they provide an anonymized network for drug seekers to contact drug suppliers. And they use an anonymized payment scheme - BitCoin. You can find nearly anything on these networks - legal but exotic/hard-to-find drugs that aren't criminalized yet are a big part of it, since if the package gets intercepted in shipping it won't lead to an arrest. But my contact within one of these communities tells me that illegals (morphine, LSD, amphetamine...) are also available. Although obviously much more risky to import.
So where BitCoin fits into this is it provides totally untraceable payment for these networks. TOR provides the anonymous communication. There's a network, separate from the one previously described, called The Farmer's Market that was recently busted [ref 1]. While they used TOR for communication, my source told me they used something non-anonymous for payment. I don't remember exactly which service - probably not PayPal, but something similar. And that traceability made it easier to bust the ring.
So yes, BitCoin is being used for drug trade. It doesn't surprise me most Slashdotters would be unaware of this; it's underground as fuck. Welcome to the new millennium: buying drugs has become social-networked and peer-to-peer. (Turns out people will choose not to deal with street pushers and cartels if they don't need to. Now if we'd just legalize a select few substances, we'd really hit the cartels in the balls...)

I've never had a flashback. [..] Cigarettes had that "acid" feel for a couple days (smokers who have tripped will know what I mean), and weed would make me feel like I was tripping, sometimes a week or more later although that could have been my imagination.
Which could be considered a flashback. Somebody else posted this link in response to you, and it what it says seems appropriate:
"Studies of flashbacks are hard to evaluate because the term has been used so loosely and variably. On the broadest definition, it means the transitory recurrence of emotions and perceptions originally experienced while under the influence of a psychedelic drug. It can last seconds or hours; it can mimic any of the myriad aspects of a trip; and it can be blissful, interesting, annoying, or frightening. [..] Marihuana [sic] smoking is probably the most common single source of flashbacks."

Re:the only drug?
Hi, actual facts incoming based on science. Meth, as in the type meth you would buy on the street is extremely similar (in terms of molecular structure) to some of our favorite legal drugs, namely Adderall and Ritalin. There is nothing different about street Meth that would make it extremely harmful to user that wouldn't also be the case with Ritalin or Adderall.
In fact, I went to a lecture at the Natural History Museum (NYC) from a scientist who has spent years working with Meth addicts. He said himself that the media had created many myths about Meth and Meth addicts, E.g. Meth mouth, the idea that Meth makes you lose your teeth. He said that Meth, in and of itself is not very dangerous or harmful at all, and in fact the dosages that get you high are nowhere near the dosages that it would take to cause brain damage, for example, or to seriously harm you.
The real problem with Meth, and other addictive drugs, is that people get addicted to them, lose their jobs, live on the street, stop eating healthily, stop exercising, stop brushing their teeth or cleaning themselves. THAT is why drug addicts often look bad, not because the drug itself is causing the degradation of the body.

Re:4th Amendment
If an officer knocks on my door and asks "Do you mind if we have a look around?" and I say "No problem. Get to it," there's no warrant required, since they've got my permission.
Similarly, with a camera: If an officer knocks on my door and asks "Do you mind if we tie into your camera system," and I say "go ahead," then there is also no warrant necessary: I've given them consent.
More to the point, I don't even think it's a public-vs-private sort of thing. If I've got cameras installed at my own home or business (inside or outside - it doesn't matter), and want I LEO looking through them and/or archiving them, then that should be completely permissible.
Now, of course, I would never submit affirmatively to any such request ("I do not consent to any searches, officer. Am I free to go?"). But I most certainly do fully support the rights of others to do as they please in their own interaction with law enforcement.

We are trained to think that "criminal behavior" means "violence or theft," but the reality is that there are plenty of non-violent/victimless "crimes" that would almost certainly fall under the scope of this sort of censorship law. Additionally, it is not clear what constitutes "supporting" criminal behavior -- does giving people accurate information about drugs that contradicts government propaganda count?
Freedom of speech does not mean "freedom of speech as long as it meets certain criteria." -
Re:Legalize DRUGS
Dude, it sounds like they should have upped your Ritalin dosage. For starters, Ritalin is NOT meth, just shares some groups.
Idiots like you are so drug-addled idiot that no doubt you see conspiracies everywhere. -
Re:If it's not the God particle, it's Salvia.
A person who smoked salvia said that a black hole in reality opened up and their soul was sucked into it. Meanwhile physicists claim that black holes suck in matter and light and it can never escape.
Maybe if more physicists smoked Salvia they'd have a better natural understanding of the universe. They would understand that salvia is an alien lifeform, a plant brought to the earth by the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greys to consume our souls. They would understand that our reality is an illusion and that this force they just discovered is the salvia force, the ultimate proof of alien life. The universe and existence is fake, accept it. You don't have consciousness, you are just a biological machine, please accept it.
Oddly enough, your post is as worth reading as the 40+ posts that came after it. You may have proved a point. God know what it is (maybe on some quantum scale you are proving that insanity is sanity at the same time) but, well done old chap.

Re:how about no
Whenever I give an example that refutes what you say, you just say the feds broke the law.
Are you saying they didn't?

Re:Tell that to to judge ;-)(emphasis mine)
I can only imagine the teenager replying to the judge: "But your honor here a picture of a Reindeer seeking the hallucinogenic fly agaric mushroom".
Funny you should choose the fly agaric mushroom for your example. Fly agaric is only a controlled substance (illegal to possess) in one U.S. state: Louisiana (source). Elsewhere, you can munch on them as much as you want (note: most people find the effects very unpleasant).
It is perhaps worth noting that although possessing/eating fly agarics is not illegal, it is a violation of FDA regulations to sell them for food or drug purposes. -
Re:Prop 19 could really use ...
Driving after using Cannabis is a bigger deal, I've used and driven and it was at least as impairing as drinking alcohol.
The DOT has done studies that show even at the higher range of recreational doses Cannabis is not as impairing as legal doses of alcohol. In fact, cannabis users over estimate their impairment and over compensate for it, which is what I expect you experienced.
Also, you can't tell me that coffee impairs you worse than Cannabis while working.
Depends entirely on the person and the type of work. I don't smoke before work, but I know people who do and they're all good at their jobs. Even high pressure jobs dealing with lots of information and deadlines. Give some of these same people 2 cups of coffee and they may well have a panic attack before lunch.

Re:NSA? Bah.
See, the "drug him" part I have an issue with. I have personal experience with both mind altering drugs and truecrypt. Let me assure you that drugs do not help you to remember a complex pass phrase....

Using drugs for addiction
One problem concerning Wellbutrin is its potential for addiction and recreational abuse>.
It functions as an ADHD and depression medication, but is also used to treat stimulant withdrawal of cocaine and nicotine. Like it's hugely popular counterpart Ritalin at high doses (ie. crushed and snorted or intravenous) it can induce euphoria, but with risk of seizure.
Personally given the constant metaphorical references to videogames as being 'like a drug' it seems unwise to prescribe something like this to those addicted to Starcraft or a MMORPG. Alternatives like counselling, and intervention with a social emphasis would be a better route to head down first. The whole idea of ploughing people with pills en masse to remedy issues such as this where environmental and social factors are so prevalent isn't one I'd endorse.
A relative of mine works in a prison; they hand out 'Subutex' or 'methadone' like candy to withdrawing addicts of opium-based drugs like heroin. The prisoners often get hooked to Subutex itself, and most just go back to dealing or robbing soon after release.
